But... is it fun?
yes, i think it is. ive been playing more or less non stop since it got delivered last week and loving every minute. it isnt perfect, none of these type of games are, but it looks good and is enjoyable and i havent encountered a single game breaking bug (yet) so all in all its a big YES ITS FUN from me.

So you are complaining that commercials lie? Better sue deodorant companies because when I go outside I'm not getting chased by a bunch of hot girls like it was promised in the commercials.
Do you know the definition of MARKETING? You'd think people know by now that companies try ANYTHING to get people to buy their product. And most people actually do, but it's like they secretly hope they don't really get lied to. It's like one parter in a relationship with domestic abuse. You know your partner is gonna hit you, but you stay because you hope your partner will change.
Guess what: Change your expectations. You'll start seeing things more positively. Personally I like the game a lot so far. Story had me hooked from the first seconds (even though I kind of expect to know how it will end, hope I'm not right) and the gameplay is a lot of fun. It looks great here too (playing 1440p maxed out) and I don't know what I should complain about. Games will never be perfect and people will always find something to complain about. These are in no way game breaking or relevant issues. Chances are most of it will get patched anyways. If you can't enjoy the game because of such little errors, don't buy it, don't play it. Done.

I accidentally just got here.
Now that sentence was as much of a lie as the trailers of this game. I had my hopes but...
It turned out to be a nope for me.
Honestly? Until they develop a mod or DLC to make it possible to see myself as a customized character, they won't see a dime from me. Retarded design. I don't customize for others, I customize for myself - to enjoy the game more. Learning about this was a huge block for me. Disappointment lvl9001... I'd rather just stick with Saints Row.
But seriously, how the hell can they pull a stunt like this? Others can see your pretty ass, but you have to play as an ugly and boring fellow. That's the lamest thing in the gamer history of the possibility of customizing your characters.
As of the game engine - seriously? We're in 2014, we get a damn expensive game and it doesn't even support real-time reflection? The graphics are overrated and not optimized well, I've even heard of fps drops on powerful machines. Do I really have to spend 250€ on a new graphic card to be able to "enjoy" such a visual failure, despite the fact that I could run basically anything else just fine at the moment?
I really wanted this game but I have no idea if it's actually worth it to even play it. The main idea is great, but I totally disagree with the design. How does a huge corporation fall into banal traps like this?
Going to be a similar tier failure as Remember Me turned out to be in my opinion. I could enjoy it, besides the 1000 bugs/glitches or design failures per move.
Comment has been collapsed.
are you serious? you dont play the game because you cannot customize the character? so what you are saying that you ignore basically 80-90% of all games because of that? ^^
Comment has been collapsed.
Let's face it, it's an epic failure. They should've removed it completely because it makes no sense at all. Or extend it to a level so it would actually work.
Plus... did you just miss all the other points? The game is pretty much overrated and unoriginal. Even that hacker girl is kinda based on the Tattoo Dragon chick. Even the actress is the same. GTA world. SR feel. Remember Me tactics. Maybe Deus Ex too? Wonder what else I have left out.
Ubisoft kinda effed up again. Not cool from a huge company like that.
But hey, it's 2014, everything has been said and drawn before, and it's hard to release original content... but shit. I write same tier stories while bored at night with no effort at all.

To be honest what surprised me the most about the game was that there was hype at all, I saw a big of gameplay at a gaming expo last year, and while it didn't look bad, it didn't really make me jump up and want to preorder it as soon as possible. The game definitely looked interesting though, but I had quite a lot of other games that was priority over it.
Personally I think the game came out exactly as expected, but then again I ignored all the hype so I probably had quite low standards as well.

Looks like I'm gonna jump over the bandwagon soon. Ubisoft doesn't wamt ATI GPU Users to play their game.
They're refusing to show the code to AMD for DX11 so it cannot be optimized on ati cards
You might want to put that article in your top post OP

Game runs like shit on Nvidia also, shit everywhere.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well it's nvidias code (Gameworks) that Ubisoft is using so they can't show.
as Nvidia has rules about not optimizing code for AMD (or other competitors) or giving them early access so drivers can be released on time.
This is very unfortunate for gamers. Thank god AMD doesn't do same (at least for now).

exactly. there has already been one game of a specific genre in the past. let's play this forever and ignore all new games. good idea! xD

and you can be sure that most of them didnt even play the game...

yes, but in general you can assume that on metacritic many people who like it give 10/10, and those who dont like it give 0/10. but a game isn't treated as a good game if it has 5/10 points. even an average of 7/10 is considered quite bad (at least for a AAA title which was hyped as much as Watch Dogs). so the haters usually have a much bigger influence on the rating than honest people and the exaggerating 10/10 guys.
let the metacritic users link their steam/uplay accounts. let them only rate a game which they own, and only if they have played at least 5 hours of the game. the user scores would be a totally different story.
look at the steam reviews. most of them are actually positive. and many of the negative ones are negative because of technical issues.

"and you can be sure that most of them can't even play the game..."
Fixed.

This is from someone who actually played it :
The game is great, really, well worth the wait. It runs well (all options on high) on HD7950, i5 2500 @ 3.3 GhZ, 8 Gb RAM.
It was running like crap (even on medium) until I fiddled with the options and changed the "max frames in GPU" value, I have no idea what I've done but now the game runs pretty well with all options on high and MSAAx2.
Vehicle physics is the only part I have a problem with but :
I've never really obsessionally compared recent WD footage to the E3 2012 prototype, I'm not sure I understand why people have stuck to this argument for so long, prototype is just what its definition means (although I've seen that Far Cry 3 E3/retail comparison and understand that you have to be careful with what the publishers show in controlled environments, but eh, same goes with any product)
I find the game gorgeous. Call me dirty console peasant but, yeah, it's really beautiful for an open-world game, the water only is amazing and sets a new standard. The wind tech, I don't find it as impressive as I thought it would be, but it could also be that it's so well implemented that you stop noticing it for a while, you stop seeing the "gadget" feature and it just becomes a detail like any other, that reinforces immersion in the game world.
I can't speak for the online - honestly, I don't give a damn about online in general. Despite being more of a solo player, the fact that online interactions are "seamless" and mixed up with the solo experience is what seduces me. Having spent quite a lot of time in Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2, I can't wait to see what this seamless, invasion-based gameplay will be like.
I don't like how Ubisoft handled the communication around the game. I can't understand either how much energy and effort some people will deploy to convince others that the game is bad. When I don't like a game, I just won't give a damn about it and look the other way, towards more interesting and meaningful things. Here we see people creating threads just to say, blah blah, the game is bad, downgrade downgrade, whine whine whine whine...

finally an honest and detailled opinion from someone who actually played it. thanks.

Nice post;- the first complete, proper post on the thread that contains something of an actual review with valid, logical, fact-backed and coherent feedback! Thanks for the oasis of reason in this otherwise desert of broken brains and apparent single digit IQ's.
One thing that might need a little rewording, though > "..honestly, I don't give a damn about online.." / "..I can't wait to see what this seamless, invasion-based gameplay will be like."
Those two things are kinda not congruent. :P

Yes, I should have said "I don't give a damn about online in general, that's what I meant. Despite being more of a solo player, the fact that online interactions are "seamless" and mixed up with the solo experience is what seduces me.

Oh I know what you most likely meant (I thought you meant exactly what you described here), you just might want to edit your post, as morons trying to slam the game might want to find any tiny little crack they can to start bitching about you, calling you an idiot, etc. You know how it goes :P

You do realize Gaming Journalism is a fucking joke, right? The companies pay the reviewers to give the game high scores so the brainless sheep will buy it. Call of Duty gets 9/10s every year and everyone knows the games are not worthy of 9/10. Don't let yourself get brainwashed by those reviews.
Comment has been collapsed.
Guess what, most games have all those as this game has been in development for years so that list isn't any different than the rest of games coming out except for things like the setting/tasks/story in the game which is more different, which if you believe the hype or not (where you shouldn't), give it a try in a demo/rental or try it at a friend's place. If you like it, good keep playing, if not find a game you do like fun. Ubisoft has been making games for a while now & it's a business so it's not going to magically change the game industry overnight with one game in development as far as hitting some lofty perfect nextgen idea you have set for it.
Also there are no nextgen games anymore with the PC & console games being rather close compared to years ago when the pc games just blasted away anything on the older consoles which had limited resources. If you feel bad you bought it as a preorder or day one release then disappointed in it now that you finally got to play it, most of the gaming public have had that happen lately with a variety of games (i.e. Diablo 3 comes to mind), get over it & move on.

Also PVP isn't allowed, unless you're in a warzone. You can't leave the warzone whenever you want. And there is a permadeath system with a time limit. Unlocking planets goes so slow, you may consider yourself lucky when your fellow players unlock a new planet before your time limit has been reached...
Not to mention the patches has been shitty so far and not a lot of content in them. 2.0.14 is bad compared to 2.0.13 (which really sucked). And the apocalypse level in 2.0.12 turned to be a hoax... Great job developers...
Comment has been collapsed.
I played a little bit, and I must say its pretty fun.
But there are some annoying bugs and the volume in the game is way to low, even if you set everything on 100%. Sometimes there are FPS drops, which is annoying when you do things where you need good timing.
Won't be buying this game at full price, but I honestly would get it at €30/€40- bucks without feeling bad about it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Because every AAA title is released with no bugs, and everything is made perfectly...
According to this mindset, you will be disappointed with every game ever.
Comment has been collapsed.
The larger the game, the more testing it would require. In some cases, holding a game back for months and months just for testing becomes less and less viable. If they held it back, everyone would be all pissy over how it was delayed, and no one would understand why, just that it was held back. And your "more content for insane prices" either is referencing the season pass at the normal price for a season pass, or the extra $10 for a "deluxe edition" which considering the normal price for almost any new game is $50-$60, puts that as a rather negligible amount. I don't know how many $10 DLCs that give almost no new content I've seen, yet no one cares about that, but a deluxe edition (which appears to add quite a bit of stuff compared to many DLCs now days) and a season pass is insane?

This is literally the worst game launch I have experienced since Saints Row 2.
Sure, keep giving the devs the benefit here...
Comment has been collapsed.
I am sure Saints Row 2 is a fairly simple game compared to Watchdogs, the more complex, the more bugs there will be. Sure, some of it probably should have been addressed, pre-launch, but things slip through the cracks all the time. It is possible that they were not given a choice to delay the game any longer.
Comment has been collapsed.
No, it really isn't any more simple then this game, not when it came out at least(Hell fine then, how about Sleeping Dogs?), tired of excuses, they had enough time if you ask me, it was delayed for the main purpose of making it a stable game, look at the mess it is, I am wondering if they even tried.
Comment has been collapsed.
What mess? Most people complain that the gfx/content is not as good as they hoped..
Comment has been collapsed.
What mess? Idk this game? The performance? People can max out games like Crysis 3 but can't play this?? Hell sleeping Dogs looks better and runs better, I can max that, cant get this crap steady on low(Which looks awful really...)

AMD card?
Game works fine for me on High, not perfect..but very playable 40-50fps with some drops below while driving. Nvidia GTX660 card, i5 3570k and 8gb RAM.
I guess maybe wait for some patches or even newer drivers..

If you look on the forums there are people with sli 760's, 690's, Titans, etc...that can't get the performance you are getting.
Its just really badly optimized, works on weaker things fine somethings but stronger cards not sometimes, its all over the place.
Comment has been collapsed.
so you're saying there were no AAA titles before digital distribution?
because you know, before everyone was online all the time, they had to make sure the games were as bug free as possible.
Comment has been collapsed.
26, to me, it just seems as if people cannot believe games cannot become more complex, have better graphics, have more features, and not cost a lot of money and have glitches and issues. Maybe it did need more time to fix certain issues, but odds are, they couldn't because the world of business does not allow them to indefinitely playtest and troubleshoot everything in the game. If you look at every little feature (the hacking, the driving, the spawning, the pathing, the loading, the triggers), there could be an error that was associated with each of them, so that needs to be tested umpteen-billion times and each error needs to be trouble shot, and then work needs to be done to fix it; maybe with the reflection, they could not have the character models appear in the reflection, because that would be that many more items to load, multiplied by the number of reflections nearby; apparently, they need to be sure to drop a dirt bike on a truck, because everyone knows it is going to happen. I don't get why people can't accept that something that has a lot of things to it has errors and bugs. I don't even see anything saying how common those issues are, and since many of the links supplied by the OP seem to be from different sources, I think it is fair to assume that they are from different people. I am an adult and I realize that not everything will have a perfect launch, maybe they could have done better, but nitpicking at a few errors that may or may not be common is ludicrous.

I'll tell you my thoughts now I've played the game a bit. Single player is very good filled with a LOT of content to take part in. However, multiplayer is a bit of a let down IMO. Online free roam has very little to do in and when I wanted to do a team game mode I was forced to play a free for all instead. Although the invasion multiplayer is really cool and enjoy both being hacked and hacking others. Overall fun and filled with content.

Forgot to mention there are a lot of bugs which is quite a problem.

Watch Dogs more than 90% negative reviews in Steam.
And never, ever don't register on giveaways sites unless you've decided to give away games to the community. That's just bad etiquette.

Lol, the userscore.
People using PC configs games can't support - score 0
"not funny at all" - score 2
" But, gameplay is awful, physic is awful, gameplay is good and graphics" - score 3
Imagine the rest of them, sounds like reliable info.
Plus, the OP once more fails to even read his own sources for the rant. It's Nvidia keeping developers from opening the code.
What a poor sob the ranty kid is, didn't get his sweetie?

Let's wait metacritic score and enjoy real nextgen (like Sleeping Dogs or Mafia 2) in few days.
Can you find nextgen game?

As expected user metascore 4.7
Watch Dogs - E3 2012 vs PC Release (Ultra)
This game is a huge step back in industry, ubi does not understand what typical gamer wants from game experience. As long as huge promotions, marketing hype with fake tech demo and promises will do a trick nothing changes. What about fan boys, as usual they eat everything, writes 10/10 and even ask for dlc, so let them press "q" to hack more.
