Guild Wars 2 doesn't play at all like Guild Wars 1 so you wouldn't have any problems there, and they pretty well walk you through all the lore so you wouldn't be confused even without playing the first game. The combat's really great, and there's a lot of freedom in the game. It's definitely worth trying.

Check out a few video reviews to get an idea of what the game offers.
Pay up front, no subscription fee, in-game store but there's not much in the way of pay-to-win.
It's probably the most flexible and least grindy MMO I've ever played. Fun, interesting encounters. Amazing lore/background (you can talk to just about everyone and many non-essential NPCs still have a lot to talk about.) Jumping puzzles. A great place to explore. Crafting with and without recipes. Personal stories that you can share. Classes are designed to be self-sufficient for the most part. There's no dedicated tank or healer classes. Combat has action elements. Your character scales to lower-level zones so it's still challenging (and rewarding) to do early content. Store currency can trade for game currency so you can get anything with just game currency eventually.
On the other hand, there are only five character slots to start, and bank space is very limited. These can both be expanded with store purchases using real money (and are in some opinions the only things in the store with a darn.) The number of skills is very limited compared to other MMOs. It lacks the meta-plot depth and soundtrack of WoW.
There are other pros and cons which any decent review video will cover.

Add goggthegrunt.6589 please! I've been looking for this type of guild for a long time. Hopefully, there's some players on my server! (:

Well I'm already in 4 guilds (2 which I'm active in, including mine, and 2 others which are among the most largest guilds of my server) but if you need help with a dungeon or something feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to tag along. :)
My main is O Killua O, level 80 Mesmer. Or to whisper easier you can just try to pm Killuas, it'll work as well.

So I've finally made enough money (shut up, I was busy doing Halloween events) to port my Guild Wars 1 guild into the sequel. It was basically a "for fun" guild - we'd do a little of everything, PvE, PvP...but if we lost, it was no biggie as long as we had fun together, we'd just keep trying.
So I'm looking for people who want to do a little of everything, but won't go apeshit if we wipe or someone is particularly bad (::cough::Me::cough::). If interested, whisper Hobard Tor Phankin or leave your character name for an invite here, or here.
