People really hate to see others get free stuff on the internet!

I'm not going to give full details but...

There is a contest on the internet where you show a picture of your computer rig and who ever gets the most votes wins something

So I entered the contest and keep in mind that promoting your contest entry so people vote for you is not against the rules! and many other contestants promoted their entry in their own ideas however they liked.

I thought hey I am a level 9 contributor on SG and it's a good platform to promote my entry on especially because it is related to computers and I'm sure people on there can really help me win! so i put "Hey this is 100% optional but if you would like to show me some love back, vote for me" in the giveaways

This morning I found out that somebody from here has contacted the contest holders and said:

some people are rigging the votes, for example posting multiple giveaways on steamgifts then writing in the description of each to vote on their image (many comments have said they voted), you should not allow random internet users to vote, especially multiple times

the contest holders do not mind people promoting their entries

i find this very funny especially because I think that person entered my giveaways and has possible won one from me

I think you use SG to promote yourself (It doesnt matter if you are level 9 or 1... its the same) but if the creators of the contest dont say anything about then you didnt cheat.

Typical jelly QQ.
Unless the host states otherwise, they do not make giveaways "because you guys are awesome", they make GAs EXACTLY to have their site promoted.
You did the "right" thing.
I remember when "we" (SG) helped Sparklepop win a new PC. It was great to make some jelly kid angry while giving a hand to an active member of the community. :D

As a side note, I personally prefere GAs that pick winners based on something else, but again: if the host just want to have his site/page promoted, then of course promoting it like this is the obvious strategy.

What an arse of a person, and if it was not against the rules, you shouldn't get in trouble.
Hell, its just socialnetworking at its best.

Ether way, best of luck.

Well, you have met one of modern Robin Hoods: he takes from the 'rich' and gives to himself b/c he's 'poor' /s
Cheer up, luckily not everyone is one of them and give us links to this contest :)

Hey, if it isn't against the rules, then that person was pretty shitty. Probably just jealous that he didn't think of it himself. Good luck!

"People really hate to see others get free stuff on the internet!"

Of course they do! If someone else got it, they didn't. And that is EVIL, becuase they should get all the free things!

But seriously, if it's not against the rules of the promo, there shouldn't be any issue.
(And most promos on the internet exist to bring in traffic anyway, so the more the contestants work to bring in voters, the better... It makes for cheap and effective advertising)

I remember that! I voted for you twice!
Let's all vote for him!
Wait...did you change the descriptions and remove the voting link?
My comment doesn't make sense in the context of the current description.

Oh...sorry to hear that. I guess we don't get to unleash the SG Army on them and have you win in a landslide. ;-)

It's only cheating if it is against the rules. Otherwise, go for it...

Yeah, totally cowardly and douchy move. Not like you are bribing voters. Only one person wins the giveaway. No different than other asking for votes. Sounds like you didn't get in trouble though, so hopefully no harm done.

I see nothing wrong in this. Every contestant who really tries to win probably shares it with every friend, active facebook groups and so on... BTW

you should not allow random internet users to vote

WTF? Then who are supposed to vote? :D

Who cares what some idiot says? I guarantee you, the other people that uploaded their rigs spread the vote link on their social media. How is that any different?
I'm 99% sure I voted at least twice (unless there's another person making giveaways for the same contest ;)
