Hiya Everyone!

With the Chinese New Year Lunar New Year fast approaching (Feb.8th in China anyway) I thought it'd be fun to do a little giveaway for it! (Lvl 1+)

The upcoming year will be the Year of the fire Monkey. (On the Chinese zodiac)

For those out there actually celebrating, I hope you have a happy new year and a great holiday!
I've seen traditional dishes for celebrating the new year and I'm deeply jealous. Dumplings are life. I was supposed to spend the NY in China this year but didn't make it. :(

Just a couple notes:

  • Don't take descriptions (strengths/weaknesses) all that seriously. They are for fun... and if you've got real beef with what's written, maybe just surf on to another post. (The information was taken directly from here) And, please remember, it's just for fun!!

  • The Chinese NY runs from Jan/Feb, so if your birthday falls in those months you'll probably want to look up specifically what year you fall into (if you don't know!) I just didn't want to spam the cells with the specific dates.

Happy New Year!
Cheers & Good Luck! ☻

PS: Bump with what zodiac animal you are!

Out of curiosity, are the any/many other who are in cross-cultural relationships (in the interest of this post Caucasian/Asian)? I've noticed there seem to be a significantly higher amount of WM/AW (white men/Asian woman) vs WW/AM (white women/Asian men) (sounds dumb, but its the term I seem to come across when goggling it anyway..)

I've only ever actually seen one other couple (since I noticed such things) where the woman was white and the man was Asian.

I'm from Israel and had been in a relationship with a thai girl for 2.5 years and lived in Bangkok for a short time. I've met dozens of interracial couples (both in Israel and in Thailand) and as you said, there is a significantly higher amount of Western men/Asian women couples compared to Western women/Asian men couples. I say Western men and not White men because Israeli people are very diverse in their origin and there are lot of mixed couples (I'm talking mostly about Jewish people). For example, my father's parents are from Tunisia while my mother's parents are from Poland while the grandparents of my some of my friends came from countries like Hungary, Morocco, Iraq, Russia, Ukraine, Iran, Syria and other countries mostly in the middle east and Europe.

When I was looking at some blogs about it they used the WM/WW a lot and I felt it was a little awkward, Western fits so much better. Thank you for throwing that out there. Oddly, the only other couple I saw (WF/AM) was in my own home town.. which is fairly odd... because until the last 10 years there was practically no cultural diversity there at all. (No joke, one Chinese family who owned a restaurant and one family who might have had some black ancestry, and then First Nations was all I grew up around).

Perhaps nosey, but have you had any issues fitting in culturally speaking? Sometimes me and my bf have the odd misunderstanding, but so far its been okay. (We've been together just over a year)

Things like: (His mother wasn't so accepting of the idea of me in the beginning.. (Frankly, I think she still isn't))

Me: She's never going to like me.
Him: It's okay, I'll introduce you to my grandmother and she will like you, you have a big butt.
Me: (overly sensitive about it) That's not very nice to say..... ;(
Him: ........
Me: .....
Him: ... Oh! .. In Chinese culture having a big butt is a good thing.. means you'll have sons. My grandmother will like that. If my grandmother accepts you, the rest of my family will too.

That's how I got accepted by Grammy. +1 for BB girls!

I remember reading an article on interracial relationships that looked that the statistics in america, and explained why there's a lot more WM/AW, BM/WW, BM/AW, and a lot less WM/BW, AM/BW, AM/WW, by explaining that, when you take the cultural expectations of what makes an ideal female companion (docile, quiet) and the ideal male companion (take-charge, aggressive, pushy) and compare these to racial stereotypes, that asian women most match the ideal female companion, and that black women are the furthest off (angry black woman), whereas black men most match the ideal male companion, and asian men the least.

I don't particularly care for stereotypes, nor do I have the same expectations in a life partner, but if you think about it, that theory makes a lot of sense

I don't miss the spirit of the giveaway. It's just that it becomes so narrowed down when people use the name "Chinese New Year", as only Chinese people celebrate it, not the rest of Eastern/Southeastern Asia. :)

I'll be frank with you, my knowledge of the far East is fleeting. My bf is Chinese and that's why I know about it. The zodiac I used, is Chinese, hence the title. I'm learning as fast as I'm able, but there you have it.
I am sorry you appear to be insulted by my good-natured attempt to celebrate. Ironically, I was attempting to be inclusive as in the West we just celebrated a NY and I didn't want the Eastern one to be left out of celebrating either.
Happy Lunar New Year to you & anyone else that applies to and the rest of us (who choose to, anyway) will enjoy this giveaway.

Nah, I don't feel insulted. Just a wee bit disappointed.

I tell you this: it's not just you, but even the Discovery Channel and the National Geographic Channel messed this up :P That's why I prefer Disney Channel (even while I'm half way through my twenties): only they got it right.

Oddly, for the years I played WoW I ought to have learned at least that from the calendar events. It was my oversight and I've corrected it as I can, so now you can join us in celebrating as well, if you choose! :)

a goat is a different species. Unless you mean G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time), which I agree, is usually a sheep or a ram

People born in the Year of the Dog are usually independent, sincere, loyal and decisive according to Chinese zodiac analysis. They are not afraid of difficulties in daily life. These shining characteristics make them have harmonious relationship with people around.

I guess that describes me pretty well ... XD
Except for the people part :X

Oh, in my family, they pick a number they like and just old at it, (Mother was 39 for years) and then when they really press on in years, they start counting backwards. Was pretty odd when I passed my mother & my brother and I'm almost the youngest in my family. Lol.

It's none AND all of those actually. They are too specific for "Yang" by itself. The closest in English/Latin is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caprinae No one ever uses the word Caprinae, and it doesn't really qualify as English I believe, so it doesn't show up in dictionary translations from what I can see.
