I think no, it is still more like cats, but some kind of evil ones :)
In the process i noticed an interesting thing. Recently came across a discussion that AI is killing the work of artists and that it is not art at all. But the more I try to come up with a description and give it to AI implementation, the worse I get. I'm just out of breath, I don't have any ideas or inspiration, but if I did come up with something interesting, the graphic part would be done by AI. Yes, sometimes there are some weird artifacts sticking out, but a basic knowledge of photoshop would be enough to fix that. So maybe those who say that just haven't tried with AI to achieve specific result, it's very difficult, but if you just try, random results can really surprise.

That's what I wrote in OP post. Before artists were having abilities that were not reachable by majority of people. Obviously, you need to spend a lot of time learning how to draw well. But someone like me, without feel of the perspective or composition, would never be able to draw nicely. And need to go to artist to have portrait, commission or anything.
There are places where artists will stay, like when you want to have a physical item with paint etc.,, and not just printout on canvas. Or painting on wall in your apartment. But maybe the whole space of digital art will be replaced by AIs. It's just the 1st year when algorithms were made public, and look how realistic some of the images are.
Maybe in the future "digital artists" will be people that know how to make custom phrase in creative way, and then either do really basic adjustment in Photoshop or use "fix this image" algorithm on a specific part of image. Or maybe those algorithms will be even added to Photoshop itself, and use it's cloud to generate images in seconds? We don't know.
Why would I pay $60 for avatar, when I can go to DALL-E 6 website, input "proud rainbow dragon on the black background, with spread wings" and get to chose from 10 pretty unique images in any style I like?

man, having never used one of those before, now I see why people were going so crazy about them when they first popped up. You could spend days generating pictures over and over again!
Now for the even itself, Imma just drop a couple pics I think fit the most and link the album with other neat attempts. With no artistic skills of my own I find it very interesting, but to be honest I'd still rather comission a piece from a "real" artist instead of relying on an AI if I was after something very specific...
We get one entry per person? Or is it one per picture? won't that be too easy? you could generate thousands of pics just to skew the odds in your favour...

Do these qualify? :D Luckily I had enough credits saved up from a few months ago, back when I was playing around with Nightcafe, so I can keep evolving my nightmare-inducing original images.
edit: Added one more :P

Really cool idea using these AIs to "draw", had a good time getting pictures from them.
no idea if any of them qualify, but these ones were too good to not share π
"cute cat space christmas presents" - yeah somehow cute, but at the same time really creepy
"cat space is giving away christmas presents" - l just love the artstyle of the cats
"spacecat giving christmas presents" - just what is going on here?
"cat floating in space is giving away christmas presents" - looks more like the cat is coming out of the present?
"felix the cat space christmas gifts" - no idea what is going on at the bottom of the picture, but i love the cat at the top with its wide grin π€
"felix the cat space christmas gifts" - cute but what the f is the red-thingy the cat is standing on?

This reminds me that it is time for me to organize another drawing contest... stay tuned
I didn't generate this as part of this event but I had generated it using DALL-E before and want to share.
Input: "A guy celebrating his birthday with his cat in a spaceship, by Katsushika Hokusai"

Introduction
Ever saw contests where people are asked to draw an image of something. And you really want to be part of it, but you know you can't draw a straight line with the help of a ruler? That's basically me.
But worry not, technology finally gives us a hand! Fresh from the oven, deep learning AI algorithms that generate realistic looking images in seconds. Scary that the thing we thought for so long as human-exclusive* - art - turned into something that can be automatically generated. Sucks for all the people that are taking art comissions or make landscape images. When DALL-E 2 (and similar algorithms) get better, they may end up jobless.
*I know elephants and such can smear paint on canvas
This brings us to the event I thought for this Christmas. I want you to "draw" a space cat. Theme is Christmas. Presents, Christmas trees, Mariah Carey, sledges.... basically anything Christmas-related. The only catch is that you will "draw" with use of DALL-E (or any other AI of your choice). I don't want people to show off their amazing drawing skills. I want chance for people like me to shine this year :D Look at this year box event banner to see how it should look like.
Rules are as below:
(It's more of a thinking-imagination than drawing-ability contest. In general, the more detailed the phrase, the better the image turns out)
How to attach image: You must have URL that ends with .jpg or .png, you can get it when you right-click image and pick "Open Image in New Tab"
Code format:

Things to consider:

Some images I quickly generated and give verdict if I think it qualifies:
(While top left image is really good and cute, it's not a Space Cat.. The other three are disturbing and out of theme.)
Let's see your creations! :D
