I'm not really bothered, however I just bought my first 2 games to give them away here and choose not to have a minimum contributor value.
It's really up to the creator of the giveway, but as far as it concerns me I would rather give those games to people who can't afford them, although I don't have any control about that.
Their money, their choice :)

The only thing that bothers me about contrib value, is you really need to go out of your way to maintain it. With games constantly becoming bundle stuff and the price drops. Does not really seem fair at times.
I don't really care, mind you - public and low-contrib-value giveaways are more then enough for me, but sometimes it does seem like high-value giveaways are for rich people only, who can afford constantly throwing money at the site.

Got an idea, get Steamgifts plus, make sure "Show red" isn't filled in. Then you'll only see what you can enter. They can do as they wish and you can be blissfully ignorant of it!

I'm at just over $70 on my contri value. No exploited games, no bundle games, no regifting (I did give a copy of a DLC I won but I was given a key I activated and gave a steam gift to my winner).
For the amount some people have given to the site I think capping it at $2000 is actually a bit too low, if people want to give only to the most generous on the site, great.

If you would prefer to limit this giveaway to users that have contributed a certain value in gifts to our community, please enter the amount above. Please note, the maximum amount you can enter above is twice the amount of your gifts contributed. Maximum allowed for your account, $5,201.04.
But... it won't let me :(

I'd like to point out to the argument many ppl seems to make that "you have such a high contributor, you can buy this games, let poor people win" - the first thing is we don't always see sale or have money on hand. yet still may want a game, but most important 2nd one - and what about the joy of winning something? Sure I could not contribute anything to the site, buy all the games I've won so far and probably would still have some spare cash left. Yet I'm more happy when I see this green bar saying I've won something - even if it's something small and silly, than even buying better / more expensive game for myself.

I think it's the CREATOR OF THE GIVEAWAY's decision, and we should be grateful they want to even give it away in the first place... -__-

Every time you (and not necessarily you, the OP) enter a giveaway, take a quick look at the person giving away the game. Some people give so much to this site, and if I can show my appreciation for them in some small way, I will! Ultimately, isn't that the entire reason the contribution value even exists? There shouldn't be anything wrong with that.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the contribution value, or system. I'm just saying that some people have been somewhat abusing the system to make giveaways with an extremely large contributor value, to the point where not many if at all, will enter a giveaway.

It's not an abuse, it's a decision. The giveaway maker decides if they want people who have been very generous with the site to enter their giveaway only. If they decide that they want to give to the people who have given over $2000 to the site, it's their choice. There's nothing wrong with it, and it's not an abuse since it works exactly the way it was expected to work.

The point is to limit the people who can enter the giveaway, as you're seeking to reward people who have given a lot to the site. I don't see how this is abuse?

What's it matter if I put my contribution as high as I want to? The higher contribution giveaways are basically thank yous to the people who really give to the site. If you don't like it then give more than you have. You've only been here 2 weeks so maybe you should spend some time on the site and than you'll see why people do the higher giveaways. Maybe you'll also appreciate things more.

This thread is a complete waste of server space... Please close it and leave with what little dignity you still have...

THIS! I'm sure the OP is a nice guy, but really ... did we need another thread discussing the inequities of contributor value?

At the end of the day, it's the creator's decision. They're giving it away for free and they can choose to give to to whomever they wish.

I think everyone should set contributor limit no more than 255 cause that was the highest stat level in Final Fantasy VIII

Darn, I'm about $20 short of being able to do that... Gotta make some more giveaways.

The largest problem with your suggestion is the fact that even greedy people will easily hit $225 if they know that is the ceiling. Not having a ceiling pushes even greedy people to do more giveaways. If everyone decided "sweet I got max contrib value from 5 AAA titles, now I can sit back and rake in the games," this whole system would fall apart, and there would be no more giveaways as well. There are however, the truly devoted that are giving games away solely because they can.

I don't care really because I have all public Giveaways and giveaways I don't want/can't enter for whatever reason filtered out so I never see them anyway.

Whatever is fine.
6 is fine, 60 fine, 600 is fine, 6000 is fine....etc...

IMO, sometimes it's too high. Other times, when it's large but still reasonable for quite a few, I'm down with that. Like, giveaways with a contributor value of like, $600 or something, that's too big. In my opinion, the max contributor value needed to enter a giveaway, but still reasonable, would be $200, MAYBE $225.
