Escape from Pretoria (2020)

Australian prison thriller film. Very good movie, based on the real-life prison escape by three political prisoners in South Africa in 1979, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Daniel Webber. Overall recommended!

Family Business (1989)

American neo noir crime comedy film. Grandpa (Sean Connery) is a criminal, dad (Dustin Hoffman) is a criminal and Adam (Matthew Broderick) just thinks college isn't for him so he he drops out and wants to get into the family business (hey, that's the name of the movie). Great performances by everyone involved. Sure, it's supposed to be a comedy but it's also kind of a tragic story. Overall surprisingly great but sadly underappreciated. It might not be one of Sidney Lumet's better movies but it's still absolutely worth the watch. Highly recommended!

Motel Hell (1980)

American comedy horror film. Very good for what it is, interesting story, nice gore and shock moments. Overall something I can recommend!

The Bishop's Wife (1947)

American romantic comedy fantasy film. Very good christmas-adjacent movie with Cary Grant playing an angel, David Niven playing a bishop and Loretta Young playing the bishop's wife. All delivering good performances in this heartfelt fantasy rom-com. Definitely recommended, probably even more so during christmas time.

Riverdance: The Animated Adventure.

REALLY good. Very well animated and acted. And impressively synchronized with the actual dance steps.
And a decent amount of humor.

Primal Fear (1996)

American legal thriller film. Rewatched this yesterday and it's still great!

i'll have to check this director other work. This was a great korean drama story with a very bittersweet ending.
the story follows 2 young man, that at one point work together for some nefarious job but through it become friends.
2 polar opposites form a bond for wanting to rise up with all odds stacked up against them.
it forms a very volatile relationship, as they struggle to reach their goal, an obsession that brings them nowhere. Bringing themselves, each other, and their family and loved ones down the gutter, increasingly more dependent on each other, with a mentality of ruining everyone´s break, out of fear sucess pushes them away.
these characters are definitely not good people, but there is some good in them, and i find them relatable to a point i actually really felt sorry for them.

Its Tremors, but in the sky. and i don't mean this in a bad way.
Much like it, this is an incredibly well crafted monster flick. It follows a simple and familiar structure, some humor, and a small cast of wildly different individuals and how they work together and figure out how to defeat the creature.
Its an 80s horror flick but with incredible pacing, beautiful shots.
The exploit of animals in the industry plays a huge roll, the movie opens up with a warning, and ultimately is the causation for the existence of the monster itself.
It's a great film and yet still a let down.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury
I would definitely appreciate an animated Riddick film. but 30min of action and no lore is something i would have rather skip

Danse Macabre (1922)

American short experimental film. Of course supposed to be accompanied by Camille Saint-Saëns' phenomenal 1874 piece Danse Macabre, which is actually one of my favourite pieces of that time. This movie tells a story about the black plague ravaging Spain. And we get to see personifictions of Youth and Love meeting one night. They dance, embrace, and kiss. As the night wears on, Death, a skeletal figure with a violin, pursues the couple while they try to elude him. Overall I feel like the idea was good, especially for the time (sad that Camille Saint-Saëns passed away in 1921, a year before this was released) but the story, if you want to call it that, definitely plays second violin to the fantastic, powerful piece of music Danse macabre is. But yeah, wether you know it by heart or have never listened to it, it's definitely worth it to check this one out.

Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)

Australian fantasy romantic drama film. Directed by George Miller (of Mad Max fame), starring Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. It's really fascinating. It's about islamic mythology, specifically about a djinn (Idris Elba) telling narratologist Alithea Binnie (who traveled to Turkey for her work and subsequently frees him from an old bottle she buys) about his past experiences. As a big fan of mythology but also as someone who hasn't looked too deeply into specifically islamic mythology this was absolutely fascinating and on top of that it's visually stunning as well. Highly recommended!

Upside Down (2012)

Franco-Canadian romantic science fantasy film. Kind of a classic Romeo and Juliet story. Forbidden lovers from two different worlds (quite literally with this one because it's about two planets with "dual gravity", allowing them to orbit each other in extremely close proximity). So yeah, the story isn't much more than your basic Romeo and Juliet retellling at its core, but the visuals are really nice. Sadly they're not enough to make this a good movie, even though the concept is very interesting. But because it isn't fleshed out as much as it could be and doesn't really fulfill the potential it had I can't really recommend this.

Profondo Rosso/Deep Red (1975)

Italian giallo film. No idea why it took me this long to watch it, considering I love Suspiria (1977). Very good giallo with an amazing soundtrack by Goblin, but overall not quite as great as Suspiria (1977). But a very entertaining, suspenseful movie by the great Dario Argento. So still, highly recommended!

Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain

A very good documentary with nice pacing, but still kinda overrated IMO. A must for fans of the man & his work, though it will burst your bubble if you've put him on a pedestal.

Having BPD and watching a movie about someone having BPD was quite the trip, there's so many questions I started to ask myself. Had some laughs and shed some tears.

Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971)

American horror film. Very atmospheric creepiness in this independent, low-budget horror movie. And it being so low-budget kinda adds to the creepiness. At its core it's about a woman and her descent into madness. Or maybe it's about vampires? You'll just have to watch to find out. And yeah, it's definitely worth checking out if you can find it.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (2019)

British drama film. First time director Chiwetel Ejiofor who also plays one of the main characters in this really good movie based on an incredible true story. We all know Chiwetel Ejiofor is a great actor but the rest of the cast is also very talented. Maxwell Simba for example, who plays the guy who did the stuff shown in the movie and later wrote a book about it on which this movie is based on, is also amazing for being just around 13 when this was shot. All around an amazing, inspiring movie that you really should watch if you haven't already. Highly recommended!

Red Notice (2021)

American action comedy film. Just what I expected. Nothing good, nothing bad. But because that was just the kind of movie I wanted to watch today I still enjoyed it.

Knives Out (2019)

This was a masterpiece. Highly enjoyable whodunnit with twist and turns galore. Thumbs up

The One (2001)

American science fiction action film. Rewatched this yesterday and it's still a good movie. Especially enjoyed the soundtrack with what feels like every popular metal song from around that time.

Face/Off (1997)

American science fiction action thriller film. Great performances all around, especially from the two leads who are playing each other. I'm sure most people have already seen this one, so I don't need to write too much about it apart from that it's a very good movie and I can definitely recommend it!

The Hidden (1987)

American science fiction horror film. A cop and an FBI agent race for answers after law abiding people suddenly become violent criminals. Starring Kyle MacLachlan and Michael Nouri, this is actually a very entertaining and quite original movie. Recommended!

Hudson Hawk (1991)

American action comedy film. It's about a master cat burglar who gets released from prison and is immediately hired for another heist. At its core it is an entertaining action adventure comedy with a lot of charme but then pretty often there are slapstick sound effects and gags that really don't fit. Without those it would be a lot better. So like this I can't really recommend the movie.
