Here we go, I'll start.

Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark (2010) - This movie is a joke. At first it's interesting, then it's boring and then it's just funny/pathetic. And they put it in a "horror" genre. Words are not sufficient. Nosferatu is turning in his grave. 3/10

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)

American fantasy heist action comedy film. Watched this yesterday at the cinema and it's a ton of fun. Very entertaining, hilarious and all around a great time. But I don't think that much is lost if you decide to watch it at home instead of on the big screen. So if you want to watch it but you're not sure how, or movie theaters are not your thing, just wait until it comes out on VOD and watch it at home. Overall I can highly recommend it, haven't laughed that much at the movies in ages.

The Titfield Thunderbolt (1953)

British comedy film. Volunteers take over their local passenger train service (against bus company resistance) when the government announces its closure. The locomotive used in this movie is a genuine veteran locomotive from 1838, making it 115 years old when this was filmed. It still exists, at 185 years old. Now it's in a museum, though. Overall nothing great, but a nice '50s comedy.

Knock at the Cabin (2023)

American apocalyptic psychological horror film. It's definitely entertaining and the twist is interesting (it's an M. Night Shyamalan movie, revealing that there's a twist in here is not a spoiler). Very good cast (Dave Bautista, Rupert Grint, Jonathan Groff, Nikki Amuka-Bird and more) in a good movie with a decent story. And while it isn't M. Night Shyamalan's best movie I can still recommend it.

If you liked the movie, I recommend you read the book. A lot is lost in the movie.

Return to Horror High (1987)

American comedy slasher film. Even though this may sound like the sequel to a movie called Horror High, it actually isn't. 7 years prior there was a series of murders at the local high school and the killer was never caught. Now a sleazy film crew wants to make a biographical movie about the crimes titled Horror High. The in-universe movie is very low budget, so the cast and crew temporarily move into the real high school where the murders happened those years ago. What can go wrong? Sure, it's not a great movie but the movie in a movie thing is a cool concept. And it has George Clooney in one of his earliest film roles. Definitely worth the watch if you're in the mood for some entertaining horror that doesn't take itself too seriously. You could even call this proto-Scary Movie. Can recommend!

Inside (2023)

Belgian-German-Greek psychological thriller film. It's a single-location movie and I think I've mentioned here before that I like those a lot. An art thief breaks into a wealthy art collector's skyscraper penthouse home to steal some art. But when he wants to leave he sets off the security system which seals the apartment. The thermostat is malfunctioning and it's slowly getting warmer and warmer. There's barely anything to eat and drink. Over the course of the movie he descends more and more into madness. All very well played by who else but Willem Dafoe. Sure, the movie might not be super entertaining but it's definitely worth the watch if you're a fan of the genre or of Willem Dafoe. Can recommend!

The Reluctant Astronaut (1967)

American comedy film. They just don't make movies like this anymore. Mainly because Don Knotts has been dead for 17 years and I really can't think of someone who could be his modern equivalent. There's also a young Leslie Nielsen in this who honestly looks like he'd make quite the leading man. Overall this is a enjoyable little comedy and if you're already a fan of Don Knotts you'll know what you can expect. Can recommend.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)

American superhero film. Well, the first one was a bit more fun with this kid being new to his powers and all. That's missing here, of course. The story is alright, the cast is very good although I thought Helen Mirren's Hespera didn't really work as a character for some reason. Overall not something I can really recommend, but if you just want a superhero movie with some action you can watch this one.

I just saw it too and loved the first one.
It had a ton of problems. Uninspiring story. Too many characters. The bad guys were bad guys in a dumb exaggerated way. And seriously, lets imagine superheroes save hundreds of people yet we are to believe the media would call them laughing stocks? And instead of building on the first movie, Billy Batson reverted completely to cheap cliches of naivete. There is a reason this movie didn't do well at the box office and it wasn't just "superhero fatigue". I'll agree the action was standard superhero fare and was fine, but poor writing with a bad plot makes the rest of the movie soulless.

They feel kinda desperate with some of those, tbh. There are so many but at the same time they all fall into predictable fault lines because the writers are condescending to the material.
When you watch the first movie, it's a cute Big-like "origin story" but there's not much to build on so maybe they should just be happy with one movie and move on to something else but no they have to do 20 for each franchise for some reason.
And then they're surprised it doesn't work

Ach du Scheiße! (2022)

German action comedy thriller film. Frank wakes up from unconsciousness, squashed in a fallen-over porta-potty. But it gets worse. There's a long metal rod pierced through his arm. Also, in just 80 minutes, the building site where he's stuck is gonna be blown up. What will he do now? It's a surprisingly good movie with lots of suspense, dark humour and it's also kinda splattery, especially towards the end. Overall it's very much worth the watch, even if you're not german. I can definitely recommend this!

Tremors: Shrieker Island (2020)

American monster horror film. When I watched all of the Tremors movies in early 2018 (and then the newest one when that came out in May) I thought "well, those didn't get any better, but at least the sixth one was the last one". And as it turns out now, they've released another one in the meantime. One good thing about this one is that Michael Gross is in it, which means he was in each and every one of them. So at least there's some consistency. Also it looks like this time it might actually be the end of the franchise. Although they've mentioned that there's always the possibility for another one. "Sales drive sequels". We'll see. So overall this was watchable but don't expect anything great.

Might be the end but they can continue without his character as they have confirmed hi character is truly dead now.

And I DID warn people back in January that this wasn't the best movie. But it was fun.

A Tremors movie without Burt Gummer? Not sure that's gonna work. And this last one probably didn't make that much money to warrant another sequel anyway, so I'd say let's just end it right there.

Funny Little Bunnies (1934)

American animated family short film. Just a short one today because of Easter and family stuff. This one's about bunny rabbits painting eggs, making chocolate eggs and rabbits and weaving baskets. Very cute and definitely something you could watch with younger children as well. Can recommend.

Matchstick Men (2003)

American-British black comedy film. Roy (Nicolas Cage) and Frank (Sam Rockwell), a couple of professional con artists, are earning their money with small-time cons like selling cheap water filters to unsupsecting people who are willing to pay ten times their value because there's a big prize coming with it which of course turns out to be bullshit. Now they have a chance to run a big con, but he suddenly finds out he has a 14 year old daughter. This movie doesn't tell you what's gonna happen next, so there are quite a few surprises. Overall very good performances by a decent cast (Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell, Alison Lohman, Bruce McGill and more). Can definitely recommend this one.

Paddleton (2019)

American comedy-drama film. It's a little slice-of-life story about two middle aged guys who are neighbours and also what seems like each other's only friend. Then one of them is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Very good performances by Ray Romano and Mark Duplass. Just under 90 minutes long, which feels like the perfect length for this kind of indie movie. Overall I can definitely recommend this one.

A Quiet Place: Part II (2020)

American post-apocalyptic horror film. Although I still prefer the original, this sequel was almost on the same level. Very good cast (Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Djimon Hounsou and more) delivering great performances. Interesting story that has you on the edge of your seat. So if you enjoyed the first one definitely check this one out as well. Can recommend!

Instinct (1999)

American psychological thriller film. Very good story about an anthropologist who had been missing for a few years, living in the jungle with mountain gorillas. He's convicted of killing someone and sent to prison where a young psychiatrist wants to find out why he did it. Great cast (Anthony Hopkins, Cuba Gooding Jr., Donald Sutherland, Maura Tierney and more) in a surprisingly good thriller. Never heard of this one before so if you also haven't, you might just want to check it out. Highly recommended!

The Wild Bunch (1969)

American epic Revisionist Western film. Can't describe why exactly, but the story of this movie feels a lot like something you'd do in RDR2. I thought it might get boring (it's a 145 minute movie after all) but there was so much stuff happening that it never did. For a Western (some of you might know that I'm not a huge fan of that genre) this is actually great. Can definitely recommend this one!

Finally watched Marcel the Shell with Shoes On because I needed a pick-me-up and it came very recommended by a trusty friend.
Very glad I overcame my initial skepticism.
It's very funny, beautifully made and has the look and feel of a real documentary, which really helps sell the story and give you the impression you are getting introduced to a real character.
More importantly, it's genuine, which cannot be said about a lot of movies, lately. It's not trying to be more than it is and it's full of truths and feelings, without ever feeling manipulative.

Labyrinth (1986)

British-American musical fantasy film. Fun, whimsical story about Sarah (Jennifer Connelly), who has to travel through a magical labyrinth to rescue her baby brother from the Goblin King Jareth (David Bowie) and makes unusual friends along the way. Overall it's a good movie and if you've seen it at the appropriate age when it came out I can imagine that you'd think it's a great movie. But I guess I'm just a bit too old already. Don't get me wrong, the puppetry is amazing, the story is entertaining and everything but I do feel like nostalgia might also be a part of people saying this is a cult movie. Also, while the David Bowie songs in this are good, they're far from his best imho. Still, good movie. Can recommend.

Boiling Point (2021)

British drama film. Very good chef drama, shot very creatively in a single take. Whenever the camera/we are away from the main action they're changing stuff around. But you don't even really notice that it's all shot in a single take. You're so focused on what's happening. Great performances, especially by Stephen Graham. This movie has you deeply invested in what's gonna happen next all throughout it's 94 minute runtime. Highly recommended!

Blast From The Past (1999)

American romantic comedy science fiction film. In 1962, American couple Calvin (Christopher Walken) and Helen Webber (Sissy Spacek) is forced into their fallout shelter thinking nuclear war with the Soviet Union is imminent. Panicking, Calvin activates the shelter's time locks for 35 years. Helen is very pregnant, so soon afterwards she gives birth to their child Adam (Brendan Fraser) who now grows up in the shelter for the next 35 years. Then it's the year 1997 and the shelter unlocks.
Of course there's a lot of culture shock comedy. Good performances from a great cast. There were a few moments I found a bit weird, like the short scene where Adam sees a black person for the first time and has to loudly proclaim his surprise (come on, this was made in the late 90s, people knew better) and towards the end when they're in the Adult Book Store, all the pornographic images on the video covers have been lazily blurred out to still keep that PG13 rating (would've been better to shoot it in a manner where you don't actually see anything close up, maybe just some stuff in the background that's naturally blurry already). Well, anyway. This is a sweet, funny little romcom that's really entertaining too. Can recommend!

Eastern Promises (2007)

British-Canadian crime drama thriller film. Very good movie revolving around the Russian Mafia. Great cast (Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts, Vincent Cassel, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Jerzy Skolimowski (who recently directed the Oscar nominated EO (2022), had no idea he was also an actor) and more, all delivering great performances. Not gonna go into detail too much because it's a movie you best figure out for yourself. Overall one I can definitely recommend!

American biographical black comedy crime film. It's based on the real story of assistant mortician Bernie Tiede, who's a beloved member of the community. He becomes the only friend of the wealthy, recently widowed Marjorie Nugent whom the townsfolk consider cold and unpleasant. Great cast (Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, Matthew McConaughey and more). Overall a good movie, can recommend.

British black comedy film. Great cast (Rowan Atkinson, Kristin Scott Thomas, Maggie Smith, Patrick Swayze and more) delivering very good performances. Walter Goodfellow (Rowan Atkinson), the vicar for a small English village, has let his marriage to Gloria (Kristin Scott Thomas) go stale. Desperate for affection, Gloria begins to fall for the advances of American golf pro Lance (Patrick Swayze). Then Grace Hawkins (Maggie Smith) starts working as their housekeeper and everything seems to get better. But she has a rather dark side to her. Overall very entertaining, can recommend!
