Real Genius (1985)
American science fiction comedy film. It's about a genius in his senior year at a science and engineering university who is paired with a new student on campus to work on a chemical laser, only to learn it will be used for dangerous purposes. Very entertaining movie, fun story, fun characters. Overall just a nice '80s movie that I can recommend.

Death Ship (1980)
Canadian-British mystery adventure horror film. It's about a mysterious ghostly freighter which rams and sinks a modern day cruise ship whose survivors climb aboard the freighter and discover that it is a World War II Nazi torture vessel. While not a cinematic masterpiece by any definition, it's nonetheless very entertaining and definitely deserving of being considered a cult classic. Overall I can recommend it.

Murders in the Zoo (1933)
American crime horror film. It's about a monomaniacal zoologist who is pathologically jealous of his beautiful but unfaithful wife and will not stop short of murder to keep her. For its time it's quite something (it's pre-Code after all) but for my taste there was a bit too much comic relief in this movie. But yeah, apart from that it's pretty gruesome (again, for its time) and I can kind of understand why it was heavily cut or outright banned in some countries. So despite maybe not living up to modern standards it's still very entertaining (and at barely over 1 hour even a bit too short for my liking) so I can recommend it.

Timeline (2003)
British-American historical science fiction adventure film. It's about a team of present-day archaeology and history students who are sent back in time to medieval France to rescue their professor from the middle of a battle. Great cast (Gerard Butler, Paul Walker, Billy Connolly, David Thewlis, Anna Friel, Frances OβConnor, Ethan Embry, Michael Sheen, Neal McDonough, Rossif Sutherland and more). The movie itself isn't that historically accurate but it's definitely entertaining enough for what it is. It's nothing that crazy in time travel fiction, but if anything it makes me want to read the Michael Crichton book it's based on because that's said to be better than the movie. Overall I can recommend this one for the cast and the entertainment factor.

The Man with No Shadow/L'homme sans ombre (2004)
Canadian-Swiss animated short drama film. It's about a man who sells his shadow in exchange for wealth, only to become rejected by society for his difference. Beautiful hand-drawn animation, very interesting story, overall I can recommend it.

Home on the Rails/Het treinhuisje (1981)
Dutch animated short comedy film. It's about an old couple's home that's build on the rails so every now and then a train runs through the home. It's a bit unusual, to say the least. But good. I can recommend it.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three
This was an amazing trilogy and an excellent farewell to not only the Tommoroverse, but pretty much EVERY past DC show.
They brought in practically EVERYONE.
9/10

Iceman (1984)
American sci-fi drama film. It's about the discovery of a prehistoric Neanderthal caveman frozen in ice and what happens after scientists are able to bring him back to life. Surprisingly for what it is, it feels scientifically very well-informed. Sure, there are things in here that are not really possible (like someone being brought back to life after being frozen for 40000 years) but the explanations on why it does work are kinda plausible. This is all around a very intelligent movie and I appreciate not having all of it dumbed down for the general movie-going public. Good cast that includes Danny Glover, David Strathairn, James Tolkan and more, but John Lone's performance as the titular character is definitely a stand-out. Overall I can definitely recommend this.

Der Mann aus dem Eis/Iceman (2017)
German-Italian-Austrian adventure drama film. It's about the life of Γtzi, the famous mummy found in the Alps in the early 1990s. While of course fictional (because how would we know anything about the life of this man who lived over 5000 years ago) the story is still very compelling. Good cast, including JΓΌrgen Vogel (internationally probably mainly known for Die Welle/The Wave (2008)), Susanne Wuest (probably mainly known for the Austrian horror movie Ich seh Ich seh/Goodnight Mommy (2014), which got a worse American remake a few years ago) and the great Franco Nero. There's almost no dialogue in this movie, with a small amount in an untranslated and non-subtitled language based on reconstructed Rhaetian. But it also doesn't really need any translation or subtitling because it's pretty obvious what the characters mean and what their motivations are for what they're doing. Overall this is surprisingly good. Can recommend.

Mr. Holland's Opus (1995)
American musical drama film. It's about a dedicated high-school music teacher who attempts to compose his own music while struggling to balance his job and life with his wife and profoundly deaf son, all happening over a 30 year time span. Teachers... They're touching so many young lives, if not directly influence them. I'm sure most of you got one you still think fondly of. As a guy in my 30s my school days are long behind me, but I can still thank my old history teacher for my love of history. This movie is about that, but from the teachers perspective over his whole career, starting from the 1960s all the way to the 1990s. Very good cast, including Richard Dreyfuss in one of his greatest roles, Glenne Headly, Alicia Witt, Terrence Howard, William H. Macy, Olympia Dukakis, Damon Whitaker, Forest Whitaker and more. I also appreciate that, because our main character's son is deaf, his parents learning sign language for him and him going to an expensive school for the deaf is a big plotpoint in multiple parts of the story, there are quite a few deaf characters in this movie and they were all played by actual deaf people, which isn't all that common, and even less so 30 years ago. This is definitely one of those movies that you just know is someone's favourite, especially if they love music, are a teacher, or even a music teacher. Overall it was so entertaining, it went by very fast considering its 140 minute runtime, but I guess that's an effect of telling a story of over 30 years. I can highly recommend it.

I was not aware of this movie at all! With the big cast and actually being alive (and already out of school) at the time, I wonder how that is.
Definitely watching this tomorrow for Saturday Movie Night (it's not a thing but it should be!)
I mean... teachers, music, Olympia Dukakis! (Gods, I miss her) and sign language! All wrapped up in a feel good movie? Yes please.
I can tell the critics didn't seem happy with it but since one of them actually has the gall to use "Capraesque" as some sort of insult, I can also tell they are clearly out of their minds or too jaded to appreciate a feel good movie when they see one.

You're in for a treat.
And what's up with that one critic?

Good movie! The premise makes it spicy and interesting. I wanted to know what happens next. All the actors were great, the psycho guy especially nailed the charismatic, yet insecure vibe. The movie also gives u a major tip on what to do if stuck with a psycho!! Recommended watch.

I Love You Phillip Morris (2009)
American-French biographical romantic comedy crime drama film. It's about a con artist, impostor and multiple prison escapee who, while incarcerated, falls in love with his fellow inmate. I thought this would be a typical Jim Carrey comedy with all the silliness that comes with it, but it's acutally a really good comedy drama with some great dramatic performances by the Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor, who are playing the two main characters. I'd even reckon it's more drama than comedy. Overall I can highly recommend this.

Patch Adams (1998)
American biographical comedy-drama film. It's about real-life physician, comedian, social activist, clown, and author Hunter "Patch" Adams and how he was inspired to become a medical doctor. I enjoyed this movie. Very good cast (Robin Williams, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bob Gunton, Alan Tudyk and more). The main character (played by Robin Williams) is very likeable and kind (critics even panned the movie for its sentimentality), so if you're looking for a movie full of compassion, something that's genuinely heartwarming, I can definitely recommend this one.

The Kindred (1987)
American science fiction horror film. It's about a geneticist who takes his assistants to his old family home to locate the deadly product of his late mother's revolutionary research into rapid human evolution. It's a good '80s horror movie with great creature effects, so if you're into that, I can recommend it.

Night Teeth (2021)
American vampire action horror thriller film. It's about a college student moonlighting as a chauffeur who picks up two mysterious women for a night of party-hopping across LA, but when he uncovers their bloodthirsty intentions and their dangerous, shadowy underworld he must fight to stay alive. Sure, it may not be the most original vampire horror movie but it looked great. So yes, it might be a bit style-over-substance, but in this case I'll allow it. I enjoyed it and I think if you keep your expectations realistic you will too. Recommended.

Here we go, I'll start.
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark (2010) - This movie is a joke. At first it's interesting, then it's boring and then it's just funny/pathetic. And they put it in a "horror" genre. Words are not sufficient. Nosferatu is turning in his grave. 3/10
