For me a double-wield, great spell usage ( although missing the spellcrafting) and a simpler, easier level-up system. I don't like that they took out the various stats, but finally I don't need to struggle if I want to optimise the levelups. ( I should try and play for the sake of playing, not maxing, eh?)
Also, on the internet it's usually the newer, the better, + base hype. Skyrim is a great TES title, just as Oblivion. They are different with their own strenghts and weaknesses, just as Morrowind :)

That was my main issue with Oblivion, the fact I had to keep pen and paper next to me and mark every skill level up in order to optimize stats, which either involved running and jumping a lot in the streets of a city or stop whatever I was doing and go shieldblock a mudcrab or spam some other ability before the level up.

The level-up system in Oblivion was absolutely terrible. Fortunately, a mod helped to (mostly) fix it. Still, it was an interesting idea that clearly didn't work and never should have made it past testing.

If you're into the Elder Scrolls franchise, you'll love every game. Mainly for the freedom it gives you, even more-so with mods. Personally, nothing beats Morrowind; but I may be biased because it was my first TES game, and nostalgia >.>

I liked the scale of the world and felt a certain freedom within it. I enjoyed branching off from questlines to start up new ones or to just go round exploring, taking in the sights, sound and atmosphere, meeting new characters along the way. It immersed me, and I enjoyed the lore, taking time to read the books etc.

People talk about mods - I didn't put any on it and found it brilliant. As for Oblivion, I've yet to play it.

It's fun, looks nice(I found myself staring at the view often) and there's a shitload of amazing mods that can make it an unforgettable experience.

I do like the leveling system and the archery balance for Skyrim, but I'll always prefer the storylines and characters of Oblivion.

"FUS ROH DA~!!" Baby!

But I haven't even played Skyrim nor even Oblivion before neither.

I badly want to get into these two games, but I absolutely suck on games done in the first person.

+1. Also, you can get the difficulty down to novice if you need some time to get used to it, or hell, even godmode.
CahosRahneVeloza, if wait for the next sale on it, you can get and try out the base game for ~ 3$. Or you can torrent it - just please make one promise. If you really like it, buy it, doesn't matter if on sale or not. If you really like a game and you can afford to buy it, do it. It's like a letter to the developers about you loving their game, please continue the series :)

Dunno either. Oblivion had more phantasy like quests and thoes were much more diverse. Though it got nothing on Morrowind.

No matter which is better I still quite liked Skyrim, maybe the game did try open to a wider audience but I found the vanilla game to be pretty good, the lore helps alot in the Elder Scrolls games!

Still love the Dark Brotherhood missions, though in Skyrim they were kinda ehh compared to Oblivion, 'Whodunit' is still one of the best sidequests I ever played.

I think Oblivion was more like Bad Rats! It was Bad, and actually had Rats! XD
