would a mod be BLIND enough to thank a fake giveaway?

I just don't get why they do it. Is it fun? If I enter a fake giveway either knowingly (because it's a really good game and I don't mind taking the chance) or unknowingly, it's really no sweat off my back -- it's not like I paid anything to enter. Are they mistaking SG as the new Steam free-to-play multiplayer PvP game?

except that you don't get points for your own opened giveaways.

Honestly, some people who do it are just dumb, and don't realize what they're doing. If they put in the description it was an accident, and not to enter, I don't really mind. It's those people who just create blatantly fake giveaways without explanation that bug me. Most of these people for whatever reason are Russian. What I want to know is who is it that is wasting their invites on these morons? They deserve to be banned just as much as the ones posting the fake giveaways.

Neither. What annoys me is people who comment as though the fake giver just posted a video of himself beating an old granny to death with a sack full of puppies. I've seen everything short of death threats. So what, the guy probably didn't understand what the site is for. I don't see why people think it merits such venom.

You know what is really just a pet peeve of mine... people who say "Thanks for <insert game name>." in the comments. I mean the odds are against you winning the game even if it's real. It's not like entering the game is equivalent to you receiving the game. When I comment, I usually say something like "Thanks for the opportunity." I know. It's just a pet peeve of mine. I'm not losing sleep over it.

It really doesn't take that much effort to add in the name of the thing being given away. Although it's not really creative, saying "Thanks for the <insert title here> giveaway" seems to be the best choice.
1) You are saying thanks.
2) It's not just a matter typing "thanks" or "thanks for the giveaway" and then copying and pasting into every giveaway you enter.

i don't get upset about the internet because i am not a child.

that wasn't quite the question, though. being annoyed and being upset are two different states. but you got a good point.

Thanks for the post, it helped me think about things. I like #2.

Seriously, saying Thanks is fine, I thought not saying it on here was worse.

Two things:
I don't see why should I be annoyed by people who do something that doesn't affect me, anything or anyone except themselves. If anything, I feel bad for them.
This thread basically says that to be trustful and to expect decency = to be stupid. I find that rather sad.

I don't get why people absolutely must receive so much gratitude from entrants, trying to grow yourself an altruistic e-winkie?
I'm perfectly fine with one thanks, not with hundreds - I actually prefer people saying something witty about the character in my avatar or something. Not complaining if 90% of giveaway entrants don't say thanks at all. If anything, I would be disappointed if the winner of my giveaway didn't say thanks in an e-mail reply or something. I think THAT is what "basic courtesy" is all about.

I don't expect that kind of acknowledgement or confirmation on the internet. If I absolutely expected this kind of attention here I probably would be seething mad because only 260 of 2600 entrants said thanks or something. Don't mad. Instead, just value the honest thanks, not the fake and automated ones.

I say thanks as a basic courtesy in group giveaways but for public ones I don't really bother since the chances are so dim to begin with.
If I win, I usually add the guy on steam to thank him but otherwise, its like thanking the lottery guys.

Some people REALLY do not know if it is fake. I am pretty new around here and try to read everything important to avoid making mistakes. But how should I know for sure if a giveaway is fake? If I enter it and write my "thank you" note I just want to be polite. Sure, sometimes I assume it might be fake. But I try not to be rude then and think the best of the person. It is up to the Mods to decide what to do, not mine.
It makes more sense to be angry about those who start those giveaways than laughing about "stupid" people who just want to be polite.

I don't get annoyed by any of these things because they are silly things to be annoyed by.

Suppose you see a give-away that is obviously fake, i.e. it's completely unambiguous to anybody who takes eight seconds to look at it that it's a fake give-away. This hypothetical situation having being set up, which of the following two situations annoys you more?
or
(Edit: For some reason the 2 is showing up as a 1. I don't even)
The people who don't bother to say "thanks" irk me - it doesn't take very long, and it's just basic courtesy. But the people who post "thanks" in an obviously fake give-away - aaaaargh, stop making yourself look stupid. I guess the second one gives me a target for my e-rage, but the former gives me a generalised target consisting of ingrates.
