Thing is, high fiber food helps but it takes hours for the effect to kick in...
Not trying to be negative, but if he is in pain right now, I am not sure it will make a big difference :-s
Also, are you positive he didn't swallow anything he wasn't supposed to?

shouldnt be, well he doesnt eat randomly anything...

/u/llewxam might be right...
we dont have our eyes on our little brothers and sisters all the time.
Just to make sure, press the stomach area (left side when you are facing him, this means his right side if he was facing you)
If that area is hard, it contains poop.
That area should be of the same firmness and softness just like the other side.
I know because I personally have internal issues.

My fruit milkshakes work in 20 minutes. It should not take hours to take effect. Raisins and Cherries are especially effective.

I guess it depends on his age, but coffee always gets me going.

thing is, pharmacy is closed >.<
know of any home remedies?

Most grocery stores that sell Aspirin, etc, will have Glycolax, but if the stores are closed, too...
Make sure he drinks a lot of water (soft drinks are dehydrating, and he needs water to soften things up.) Other than that, try this LINK to WebMD's suggestions.

thanks, and yes, store's closed as well. currently trying the bath in warm water... thanks!

Buy a great big watermelon, and make him eat only that for a meal or two. It's very hydrating, obviously, but it also has a surprisingly powerful laxative effect. Works well combined with caffeine, if you dare to give it to him (it doesn't have to be coffee, soft drinks have the same effect).

doesnt yogurt help? and yes. cutting on the milk already

ok, this is new to me, ill keep that in mind. thanks!

Not true.... if you eat a good yogurt that's low to no sugar and has active live cultures. It's good for digestive health. However, if you eat it in replacement of fiber, you will have a problem.

If you can get a hold of something with a good bit of magnesium in it this will do the trick. A Side effect of magnesium is having the runs. Another thing that really got me going was some strenuous physical activity. (Mostly running/jumping based)

Anything that includes plenty of fibers. Especially plums and beans help a lot.

Come on.. Nothing compares to the good old cofee & cigarette combo lol.
Jokes aside you could try any fruit you may have that has laxative qualities such as papaya, kiwi or stuff like that.
Aside from that he should always be hydrated as others have mentioned.
You could also try tea, since Theine is the same chemical compound as that of caffeine but is generally milder, as it is metabolised slower (6 to 8 hours for any effects to wear off).
Make sure to dilute it, since he is only 4, and if it's past his bedtime of course you shouldn't try this.
One more thing, try adding honey to make it sweeter and more tasteful. No more than a cup :)
Btw if he's in pain you should indeed take him to a hospital as Vindecare mentioned.

thanks for your input! but i heard that tea isnt a very good solution

It's certainly not the best, since it has both digestive as well as non digestive properties. It's mostly dose-depended that's why it should always be used by an adult. But since we are talking about a 4yo, I'd be wary as well.
I could suggest a table spoon of olive oil, since it's supposed to help lubrication, despite the fact that it did nothing for me.
As a last resort of a home remedy you could try feeding him fibers as other suggested.

Tea is part of the BRATT diet, so not recommended if you need to "go."

.....I was 100% sure you were Greek. xD

Lots and lots of plain ol water.
Or, if they are the kind of kid to not drink water, fresh orange juice.
We also had to have her lay on her back, and "pedal" her legs. Something about getting the stomach moving, or something.
source: when my daughter was a few months old, she needed help in that way :(

No idea in the short term, but everyone should fucking drink AT LEAST 1,5L of water everyday

Besides making your brother drink lots of water
Rice Water.(the water you used to wash the rice the 2nd time, make sure you use distilled water and boil the rice water since its a child)
as for food, Ripe Papaya and Apple would be the very best.
Next would be Citrus Fruits.
Also when your brother is about to poop, make him squat.
If you have Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey that can also help.
You can go 1:1 ratio mixed with 2parts water
Btw if your family line has a history of constipation, make sure to always drink lots of water, actually more than you used to.
and I mean Water not colored drinks.
And minimize intake of proteins, bananas and beans.
Beans and bananas harden stool.
I hope he will be ok soon.
My Brother's Ex-Wife's family has constipation history, it was also passed to their children.

tried the cider thingy + most of what was suggested, he is ok now. thanks for helping!

Dried prunes. Cook them in a bit of water until they are mushy.
prune juice also works

How do you know it's only constipation? Is he still in pain? Take him to the hospital
Comment has been collapsed.
It's probably just a constipation but considering the "He is crying" part
Fever ? does he cry if you push his stomach (low-right) ? if yes it could be appendicitis and you should go to the hospital asap
Comment has been collapsed.
When I had appendicitis it was a general malaise, the pain did not have a specific location until it was nearly about to burst.
If there is a fever involved, then definitely go to the ER. Better to be safe.
Comment has been collapsed.
no fever, and he is better now, but thanks for the concern!

Prune juice will help, but a suppository will work faster. Might be able to pick up both at the supermarket.

First off, sorry for asking such a weird question and I'm aware this has nothing to do at all with SG, but my little brother is experiencing constipation and the pharmacy is currently closed. He is crying so do any of you know of a home remedy? We tried giving yogurt drinks and gripe water but doesnt seem to work.
Thanks!
EDIT: Thank you all for the suggestions! My brother just went to the toilet after we tried most of what was suggested and is better now! Thank you again and sorry for the weird question.
