Just got scammed by XXXXXX (removed due to SG rule)

Gave him my nvidia promo code and he gave me invalid key, removed me from friends and went offline.

Made this for other honest people not to get scammed by him.

Please don't comment how stupid I am to trust him etc... I know that already :(. I feel really miserable right now and would appreciate if you did not make it worse.

Merry Christmas to all (scammers included... you will be judged after this life so enjoy the one you have).

Thank you. Sorry to hear you are also a scam victim. I also had it coming... was too naive and trustworthy... and also too hyped for Fallout. Trying to get over it... was very hard alone, but these SG comments truly helped me.

Open up a ticket on STEAMREPS on him. Use screenshots of your chat logs, everything on your way that helps you on reporting him.

I've been scammed before. Actually, my only negative rep is from the guy who scammed me. LONG story, but now he has been banned and here I am happy with the community with 18 positive feedbacks in one month. :)

Merry Christmas, my friend!

SteamRep is dead.

Sadly I did not take screenshot of chat (which contains solid proof). Don't know if (where) I can access it when he removed me from friend list right away.

I looked at steamrep but rules don't allow reports of key scams anymore - if I understood it correctly... it's a bit weird if you ask me. Anyway they require a proof which I don't have =/.

you know the critic is placed wrong.
His side of the trade was ok and he just get what he deserves.
It's just 1x +1 >.>
I really wonder why nobody else thinks like me.
Bladito and I traded now and it was satisfying at all.

Yes that was wrong. I told him as well. We both felt so bad, that we traded a game to make it real :).

I skimmed through the posts, sorry if I repeat something, I didn't have the patience to read every post in detail.

You should report him, save the link of his profile page. (Remember that Steam names are easily changed, so go for the profile link, it usually contains the ID). If the link is customised, put his username in here to find his Steam_ID: http://steamidfinder.com/
This makes sure you can find his profile ever again.

Report him, as others stated. If possible make a screenshot of the chat, upload it and post the link into the report window. Together with evidence that he got your key and activated it and that you didn't get something. It won't give you back what you lost but it is the right thing to do to stop him in my opinion.

I don't want to say never trust anyone, but never trust anyone on Steam. If you didn't know: You can delete any comment on your profile and scammers will of course delete all warnings and negative feedbacks. On top of that scammers usually have rigged their +rep. Don't trust those fancy +rep ever anymore. I personally had no idea what those even mean for several years, because I don't care. Sorry that you fell for it, you have my feels.

Next. If you want to do trades again. Only either do secured trades, I mean the system given by Steam or look on places like this one, http://steamgifts.com , where you can be 99,99% sure that long lists of positive feedback in the trade section is real and legit.

Thanks. Yes I reported him. I didn't know you could delete comments on your profile. That's quite a game changer. If scammers can just delete negative comments then it really sucks for the rest of us.

Wish I could give you longer response but I feel like I started repeating myself in responses and I also feel kinda sick right now :(. I hope you don't mind :). Really appreciate your post (read it all of course) and the time you spent writing it.

Merry Christmas

I got scammed by a guy who had several pages of good rep comments on his steam profile. The only thing you can trust is the rep on this site I suppose.

Yes, +rep on profile is obsolete.

Yes this guy also had several pages of +rep dating few years back so I thought that was enough to be sure of good trade. Never been so wrong. Now I'm wiser.

You don't have to warn anybody, everyone learns from experience, but it's like chicken pox, you need to get scammed early on or you will get scammed later but a lot worse.

Unfortunately, there are people who never learns, and sometimes they become a scammer.

You either learn from your mistake, or get scammed enough to see your self become a scammer.

Nice reference :). Yes I have never been scammed before so I guess I needed this kind of experience in my life to be prepared for anything future brings me.

Let's hope I will learn from this, because I could never become a scammer. I simply can not deliberately hurt anyone.

Bladito, I only have some crappy free games from IndieGala giveaways, but if you want one I will be glad to give it to you. Again, nothing special here, but...

CHIP, Litil Divil, Hyper Fighters, Bloop or Space Hack

Man, don't just let him go away with it. That's a serious offense. Scammers are thieves and they should be treated like thieves. Do you understand? If you have proof, make a ticket on steam support, report him on steamrep, and -rep him on steamgifts. Just do NOT let him go away with it. He should be judged now, not in his afterlife. Anyway, I hope you won't think that all traders are like these. There are a lot of traders out there, including me, that would never scam anyone. Don't let this sh@tty scammer make you sad. Keep strong!

People always fail to understand that scammers are stealing items that cost money. In real life, if someone would steal an item from you, he would be a thief and end up in jail. But why, when scammers steal games, skins, paypal money, etc., they aren't punished? And the most important thing is to report them on steamrep and steam support, so that no more people would get scammed by them.

Mostly because victims are new to the Community and don't have any proof. That's sad.

Exactly. Why Gabe doesn't force people somehow to read some guidelines before trading?

Thank you. I already reported him. I met a nice person here in this discussion and we even traded a game. He made me realize there are still nice people out there. I will just have to be more careful next time.

I completely agree that scammers = thieves and they should serve time in jail. Too bad we live in an age where they can freely scam people and get away with it.

Exactly. You must always keep a screenshot of your discussion. Just find a way to report him and let everyone know that he's a scammer (well, not here, because it's not allowed :P ). And you're welcome.

its good that i never trade anything valuable with others and the bundle leftover keys well, because of my steamlevel everyone just link the key to me before i could link mine, even if my sgifts rep just 25/0, but those bundle leftover games not worth much anyway.

sorry that you got scammed, but there were nice suggestions in this topic, add the scammer alert with link on steam profile, you can call out there, so we can all ignore that user if we check your profile:-)

Thank you. Yes I got many very nice suggestions and heartwarming comments for which I am truly thankful. I already posted link on my steam profile so you can block him.

What bothers me the most... is that he still logs in to that profile and plays his game like nothing happened. I expected him to abandon that profile and create a new one. He's obviously just some foul kid.

Phew.. didn't realize how replying can be so time consuming. Reading and replying to all your comments was really worth it. I feel a lot better now. Thank you all again for your heartwarming comments and advice.

it was nvidia promo code that either links a game to your Uplay account or generates a Uplay key. Don't know which one.. I didn't quite get it from their site description.

Some lessons are very painful mate :( I'm really sorry for You. From one hand it's very funny, beacuse the situation was so simple ( You will laugh later), but on the other hand I understand You....You trusted somebody and he/she used the situation. Don't worry - shit is everywhere. If You want I can cheer You up and give one key of some game...just add me ;)

Thank you. Yes I can not believe I did not handle such simple situation. Now I am mad at myself but later I will laugh how stupid I was to fall for it. Also thank you very much for your offer, but I will decline it. Didn't make this discussion with intention to gain anything, so I would only feel bad if I accepted it.
