Intersex is an umbrella term that applies to people born with conditions in which their bodies do not fit typical expectations for males or females. Not all intersex people identify as falling under the LGBT umbrella, but many do.
Agender is a term for someone who does not identify with a particular gender identity.
POC Pride refers to people of color in the LGBT community. Often, perceptions of our community and its history are whitewashed and remove and downplay LGBT people of color themselves, as well as their contributions. Additionally, LGBT people of color are still subject to racism not just in wider society but, unfortunately, also within our community itself. Deliberately celebrating POC Pride is a way of ensuring that people of color are not erased and that they are welcomed and honored in our community.

Intersex is stigmatized, also by the medical world. But it is a normal variation (just like red hair, for instance) that has always existed. Many people with intersex bodies have zero medical problems because of it - and yet still it is unfortunately often painted as something pathological because of institutional prejudice. The by far biggest thing intersex people suffer from is the huge stigma (and thus shame) for being intersex, and the fact that wayyy to many doctors operate intersex babies although there is no real need and the risk for negative consequences is extremely high. Simply because they want to make them look like a girl or a boy.

Societal prejudices when it comes to gender is still determining that kind of "medical" decisions unfortunately.
My brother in law is expecting a baby and he's been asked whether they want to know if the baby is a boy or a girl. To which he answered "you mean you can tell me who my kid will be from a picture? I don't think so"
If doctors still don't understand the difference between sex and gender, imagine how enlightened most parents are going to be.
So yeah the stigma is not going to disappear just yet.

My country is considered progressive - and yet, when I googled "intersex doctor" in my language just now, the first result was the website of a large clinic with a pretty good reputation, which spread so much harmful misinformation. They openly say that their go-to is to operate small kids to make them look like "normal" girls or boys. Even though it was technically made illegal recently. It is infuriating that this is what doctors are still convinced of, and what they are telling parents. And shows that they didn't take the opportunity to listen to intersex voices in the last few decades at all.
Too many doctors are not just mixing up gender and sex, but they are also non-consensually operating babies because of their incredibly narrow and harmful ideas of gender and sex.

And of course parents trust doctors because who would you trust in something like this? There are so many things that are treated like medical conditions that are simply not so people who are confused and look for information end up looking in the wrong places.

Which is really where parents should be looking for information in the first place instead of the medical establishment (who, as a group, considered homosexuality to be a mental illness way too late in the 20th century).
And somehow, those good doctors who are fine cutting up kids without their consent, somehow probably also think it's not ok for trans kids to receive medical care "before they are old enough" to know better. Seriously?

I agree. The way the medical model views neurodiversity is another topic which reeks of injustices and harm towards marginalized people. It leads to so much unnecessary shame. "Stigma is the second disease", they say. I sometimes wonder whether it is the first...
There are some steps in the right direction - for instance, you could research "Population Health". It is an emerging scientific discipline which looks at healthcare & medicine related topics without excluding the social influences. And it doesn't view affected people merely as "patients" who have zero agency or say in medical theories, but rather as another important group of experts. It makes me a little bit hopeful.
But though there are steps in the right direction (in some regions of the world), all the harm that is meanwhile done to intersex people and other marginalised groups just shouldn't happen.

I didn't know about Population Health. It's about time, if you ask me. Sounds like something that could have started a few decades ago already.
Even the countries that are supposedly "enlightened" like to turn a blind eye to the disparities caused by the restricted access to health care and the marginalization that they lead to. Not to mention how political it is in some countries, like the US, which doesn't help matters, I'm sure.

The condescending attitude of modern medicine in general has been driving me crazy for a number of years, personally. I have a chronic medical condition which most doctors I go to know nothing about even after I tell them about it and the reactions I get range from the amused to disbelieving and patronizing. You would be amazed at how many times I have been told "wow you know a lot about this, you're sure you're not a doctor? hahaha" as if me being better versed in my own condition than most doctors who have stopped their studying when they left school years ago was somehow miraculous.
I did my research, yes, as I was tired of being confronted with doctors who looked at me like "are you sure that's a real thing?"
In the few decades since I've been diagnosed by an unassuming GP in a small town of all places, I have literally met only one doctor who admitted he didn't know anything about it and did their own research: the one doctor who diagnosed me in the first place. The others have seemingly been too proud to admit to a "patient" that there was a limit to their knowledge and that they would need to look into it.
I'm thankful every time I have to see a doctor that this is not a life threatening condition, or something that requires any medical intervention beyond the prescription of medication. I can only imagine what most people whose whole lives are being treated as a medical condition for no reason other than for doctors to look like they know best, can go through.
So yes to Population Health! And YES to the hope that it terminates some of the condescension and misinformation some of the most marginalized have had to battle.

Rainbow Railroad, which helps relocate queer people who are at risk of violence because of where they live.
The Transgender Legal Defence and Education Fund for if you're really mad about what's happening RE: trans rights in America.
Any of the Global Giving funds that support LGBTQ projects. Global Giving helps fundraise for grassroots activism projects worldwide, as well as vetting the projects independently. They've got LGBTQ+ rights projects in places like Tanzania, South Korea and Rwanda.

Hello 2023. I'm now being tagged in so many hates comments online because I tell people that everyone in lgbtqia-community deserves to feel validated. But seemingly non-binary people and.. gosh, transpeople, destroy children.
This is why pride is important. Don't hate people who feel "different", who are "different". If you do, just don't go around and slap it around like it's some kind of a dick sword fight, because why would you waste your energy on that, why waste energy on hate.
Nah, man, this world. Yeah, no. Queer out.
Update: I was told that I was the reason people hate queers, and that I make queers look bad because I am accepting. So sorry all queers, guess I make you all look bad because I'm accepting trans and non-binary.

There is no end to the illogic of hating.
And they get only nastier when they need to distract people from their shit like oh... I don't know... years of corruption scandals like in Uganda, or getting your ass kicked in an unjustified war against a country 28 times smaller than yours... or you know... ex-president being indicted for crimes and investigated for national security breaches.

I am queer, the equivalent for that word in my language is skeiv, which used to be a slur but it's fully reclaimed (at least in Norway).
The q in lgbtqia+ also stands for either queer and/or questioning.
