The formatting sticky should have you used to the syntax the site uses pretty quickly. As TheUnknownM wrote, you format links using square brackets and parenthesis: [This is a link](http://www.example.com/)
I'm 99% sure there are no inline images in these forums, so yep, the sig won't work here.
