I feel this incident sick. I think, Dota 2 is a great game, even without any events. The community gone too far, people even posted on Obama's Facebook page.
At first it's funny indeed, I laughed on it a lot myself too. But after that phone calling to Volvo, I felt embarassed to be the part of a community like this. Luckily, the company took it easy, and their response were positive (I would find it funny, if they are coming up with a new modell called Diretide after this). You may not believe, but this could have turned out worse.
Last year, I didn't have Dota 2, so I missed that event. However, if I didn't miss it, I still don't think, I'd have joined to the crowd of people, behaving like an annoying little kid. I like the game on its way, even if most of the players are harrassing, and their favourite words are the "Noob, feeder or report".

I think the whole thing is not just about Diretide, there are a lot of things that suck. So far Valve did a great job with Dota 2, but

Forgot that. There were a few achievements. But they never made them work so they deleted them

I agree with you, matchmaking is terrible, dunno how it works but you get usually matched vs people that are way better or way worst.Report system ain't that bad at least they are muting people or banning(but since it's F2P all you need to do is create new account download game and done).Servers somtimes get's a lot of packet losses i experienced it a lot of times even when i was playing on EU which is weird cause im also from EU).Well most people should understand it was only 1 time event.Anyway tbh i quited this game since terrible community.

Gamers and their feelings of entitlement... What a mess.
I feel for Volvo here getting massively spammed for something they didn't know or care about, but there response was spot-on.
Since when has anyone called Valve by Volvo though? This is the first time I've ever heard it.

The damage has been done though. See all the pitiful and self-entitled people who gave negative ratings on Metacritic just because Diretide didn't come on Halloween?

If you visit Reddit or some similar site, you could probably see posts/messages/whatever you call them like "༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give DIRETIDE" or "volvo plx fiks ded gaem" . If you know and understand what those mean, good for you; go laugh more! If you dont know what's all about, let me explain you:
Last year Dota 2 had a halloween event called "Diretide". Since TF2 halloween event happens every year, and the flavor text of Diretide said it was a annual event (like WoW Winter Veil), people started getting hyped.
There was no Diretide, and the shit hit the fan.
Disgruntled players starded spamming twitch chat with emotes, which eventually changed to people losing on purpose in-game to "call Valve's attention" and defacing Wikipedia articles and raiding the game Metascore.
They also spammed Volvo's (Volvo is a pun of Valve) reddit and facebook pages. One guy even called Volvo to ask them about Diretide.
The most interesting/funniest part is that Volvo actually responded to all the spam.
I can only think people at Valve can't stop laughing.
