Valve usually does not release crap, but no matter how good it is, it is very unlikely that it could possibly be good enough to meet the hype. That said, if they somehow came up with a mind blowing way idea that completely blows any game before it out of the water, then maybe it could get close.

If what you are saying is what I remember, there was a guy that saw some development on another game, and the images he saw looked like it would be from Half Life 3 to him. He said he wasn't sure about it though, if I remember right.

It was supposedly confirmed I that Half-Life 3 will be open-world and that Gordon and Chell will cross pathes during the game. I do not recall where I heard this information from. But the confirmed thing is that HL3 is "in-development", they're currently waiting on Source Engine 2 before they do anything I think.

They kinda sorta just released source 2 and put Dota on it a few days ago.

why do so many people based how good a game is by how good it will be on if it is revolutionary or not that does not happen often for a reason one is the tech...2 is using the tech to do a game changers

like GTA did for open world they might not have been the first but they put it on the map so to speak

now we are at point in gaming where graphics pretty much have mostly peaked until hardware can start to deliver big leaps again if that is even possible anytime soon

a lot people are let down because they want every game to be a game changer and not how things work

Bioshock when it came out was something new and it was awesome for its time but now when you look back at it it does not seem so great but people compare it to how games are now and that is some years later

Oblivion set the new bar for how good games could look and still have open world and a huge map and have deep immersion but now you look at it and compare it to new tech and the NPC and some game does not seem so stellar

anyhow if there is a Half-Life 3 it may or may not be good,though i would almost think it would continue on the story and it might be a good thing it is taking so long as maybe they are retooling the whole thing and it will be good

GTA series seems to get bigger each time but then again they take 5 or so years to make each new version and they are not afraid to admit they are no hurry and have no plans to make one every couple years

the Exception might have been GTA II+Vice City but they both where so good that did not matter they where a couple years apart

anyhow all i am saying is it will be what is is if it comes and i will compare it to the tech that is around if and when it comes ....i do think it should be a good fps no matter but i could be wrong

Just like their other average decent generic games such as Portal 2 and L4D 2 games amirite? Spoiler alert: Its sarcasm. They might not do that many games but honestly I've yet to see a valve game that was generic or just average. Most if not all of their game revolutionized something in their specific genre and were quite unique.
