Good thing you didn't fall for this scam. Apparently it is becoming extremely common, which makes no sense since you don't need to verify items -.-.

It could be worse. Like those bots that add you and ask you to trade stuff with them. I hate them.

I'm not really into trading, so I don't get it. A trusted friend is someone you both trust? or just you? And can't you just see if the item is clean in the inventory? So confused.

It's just a really weird Scam. They ask you to give the item to one of YOUR friends, and then they change their name to that friends Steam username, and tries to trade it with you. It really makes no sense, but apparently it works on some people.

Oh, but what if I make an alternate Steam account, I call him Bob and pretend I send it to Bob. Would be so weird if Bob actually said something to me :p The whole thing doesn't even make sense how would sending the item to one of my friends, proof the item is clean, wouldn't my friend be on my side? :D I have to say that's a silly scam, :D

Yeah.. it makes no sense.

Maybe clean in this case somehow means it can be traded to others?

I haven't got anything like that since I don't even have silly items like knives, but almost tempted to buy one and tell them my friend is gaben. Then see if reporting that impersonation does anything.

If it was my intent to scam someone I would pretend to "send it" to a friend with a private profile and he would then "claim" he got it. But ok, you do make a good point, that makes at least a little sense.

LOL, yeah there's so much fun to be had with scammers. I feel bad no one ever wants to scam me :(
