Do you like listening to songs in languages you don't understand?
It's not really the type of music I listen too, but not half bad. Video is also kinda cool.
For me music is about the flow, and how everything sounds together, with this sometimes being more important than the meaning, so if it sounds good, it's pretty good.

I agree with your opinion! And thanks for checking it out! Added :)

Not my style of music at all but there be some fine Japanese ladies that's for sure!
Also before I saw your poll I was going to comment that I hate it when artists break from their original language into Enlgish, it sounds so much better in Japanese! (not that I understand what they're saying without subtitles but I just mean the flow of the song sounds better)

Korean actually :p
But 100% agreed. And honestly a lot of times when singers aren't fluent there just isn't the same emotion. And while I do appreciate them sometimes trying to reach international fanbase I feel like there are better ways. Anyways added, thanks for checking them out!

True, I always appreciate the subs (even if I always ended up looking them up after lol the MV's are too distracting).
Thanks for checking them out! :D

well I do not listen to kpop but the music of that group of girls has a good rhythm

Honestly not my type of music but I like the rhythm and the style.Rammstein was the only band I got into (not understanding German) and went to many shows. So many bands from around the world have my respect and I can't understand a damn thing they say (lol) but all have my regards.

Rammstein has some great jams, it's cool you got to see them live. I actually can understand some things they say in my broken German heh. Anyways, thanks for checking them out! Added :)

Understandable :p Added you, thanks for checking them out!

I feel like it's the evolution of pop music in general. It's what sells so I can't blame the artists as much as those behind (or maybe in front of) the cameras who buy into it. Regardless, added you :)

Lol, I'm Korean, but not into such music known as Idol music. I rather prefer rock - punk, especially. Anyway, thanks to you I got to know a girl-group who I didn't know at all. Besides, it's quite good to see a foreign person who's interested in the culture of my country, so isn't it a good enough reason to add you on my WL? ;)

Ah thank you! I do quite enjoy Korean culture. I think I was around 12 when I signed up for Taekwondo classes and started learning about it from there. 그 다움에 한국어도 좀 배웠어요! It's probably rusty but 혼자만 공부했어요. Ironically kpop was kind of the last thing I learned about when it comes to Korean culture heh.
Anyways, thanks for giving them a listen and adding me your WL, naturally added you to mine :D
(ps. if you happen to have any punk/rock Korean bands to recommend, I'd happily give them a listen!)

You sure had more contact and knowledge about my country! If I recommend my favorite (almost the only favorite) band, the name is Crying Nut. Thanks to them punk rock is my favorite, and among foreign bands Green Day is the best for me. My Chemical Romance is the second best.
Some possible suggestions from my favorite band - the title song of the first album(1998) - still well-known, at least to people aged mid-20s.
a hilarious song(2009) - it's about pigeon and repeats 'bi-dool-gi'(which means pigeon in Korean).
from the newest album(2018)

Mixed feelings. I'm a metalhead so when I heard the guitar at the beginning I was hopeful. The whole electronically modified voice thing I heard a few times (don't remember what that's called) is quite off putting though. Put it this way: it's much better than most of the pop music I've heard recently but it's also not something I'd choose to listen to.

I'll definitely take it! I feel like it's a pretty great compliment from a metal fan who doesn't like pop. Thanks for giving it a listen! Added you to WL :)

Metalhead eyy...Let's get weird with it...
Babymetal - Chocolate

... that's just plain weird. I'd definitely go for an instrumental version though, the guitar work is awesome.
Since we're on the topic of music (at least partially) in other languages though... Ari Ari - Bloodywood

Understanding the language does not matter - When we have rockin' Mongols 😊👍

You'd be happy to know I'm familiar with The HU already :D I love their really unique sound! Great metal comes from all corners of the world.

Overall, it is not my type of music, but they definitely had nice voices. Clocks and old phones were quite interesting, but the dolls were creepy. I found it interesting that parts of it (such as "Emergency") were in English, but other parts were not.
My personal favorite female singers include Vera Lynn example, and Deanna Durbin example 1, example 2, example 3, and example 4. I also love Bing Crosby's singing.
I try to not be a leech, and thus I try to give as much as I win.

It's actually quite common in Korean songs to throw in a line or two in English, especially in the chorus since it "connects" with international audiences more (and there were a few more lines in English but they do have accents to it gets mixed in sometimes).
I might be young so I admit I was not familiar with the names of those singers, but those are some amazing vocals! As a wannabe musician I do appreciate clean singing as well (even if I lean towards upbeat "modern" genres). Thanks for the links :) Added you to my WL!

Ah? I had not known that (regarding the bits in English), but it makes sense (and is quite interesting). Thank you.
I am certainly not old enough to have ever known those singers in their heyday, although Bing Crosby is somewhat of a Christmas favorite, Deanna Durbin died in 2013, and Dame Vera Lynn is still alive at 101. However, I came across them in old movies or radio shows (or hither and yon on youtube), and greatly enjoy their singing. A good range and clarity are always to be desired, no matter the style being sung. I love the vocal "power" or "fullness" in their voices. There was another famous movie actress and singer back then (Jeanette MacDonald) who had an even higher range, but whose voice was "weak" in comparison (in terms of total volume or richness of the sound, I guess).
You're quite welcome, and I'm glad you enjoyed them! Thank you for the WL! I appreciate it!
FunFact: When she was 15 years old, (late 1936), the General Music Secretary of the Metropolitan Opera offered Deanna Durbin (who had the range or a lyric soprano) an audition, but she turned it down as she already had a contract with Columbia Pictures (and felt she needed more singing lessons before going into opera).

Weird, at best, if not genuinely awful. I am on your WL now? :)

It's good but I liked Chase Me and You and I more. I feel the rap segments slow down the song and make it feel different from their other fast paced songs. On the other hand they used a piri in the song and that is awesome.
On the topic of the poll, I don't need to understand the vocals to enjoy the song, the voice is just another instrument. Just the same I do like being able to find translated lyrics so i know what the song is about.

Agreed, You and I still might be my favorite title track of theirs. I feel like they wanted to make this more "pop" out of all of their tracks in terms of rap parts and the repetitive "li li/oh oh" sounds as kpop usually does. I think it worked so I like it if it was their intention!
Added to WL :)

In Germany there's lots of wanna-be rappers and people who think they're "making music".
Think of a mumbling, (by own will) disabled person who can grasp barely enough breath to speak out loud 2-3 words and then has to inhale again to go on (or maybe isn't creative enough to write proper lyrics - who knows).
That's the kind of sh*t they produce over here.
So music isn't music regardless of language- most of the time but not all the time!

I can understand wanting to know the lyrics to enjoy it more. Thanks for checking the song out though! :)

I don't really listen to popular music that much but it was nice. As for the language, I often prefer not to understand the lyrics so I can enjoy the music. Lyrics can be so silly or offensive I rather not know what they are talking about ;)
Btw, parts of the lyrics were in English, is it normal? Or I was imagining words because our brain often tries to make sense of stuff we don't understand? :D
Comment has been collapsed.
I totally get that! I often seek out music in different languages if I'm interested in actually listening to music.
And you didn't imagine it haha it's fairly normal for Korean songs to add bits of English to both sound "cool and hip" and to give international fans a chance to sing along to at least parts of it. I think it's a neat trick, for pop music at least!
Added :)

I gotta admit I don't remember them doing actual anime openings (even though everyone says that they sound like one heh) maybe it was a fanmade thing? Regardless, pretty cool that you know of them! :D

One of the groups I liked released a new song and I'm curious what non-fans think of it. Maybe you can check it out and give me your thoughts on it?
