Later today, CS:GO will be freely available for offline play and GOTV viewing by installing “CS:GO – Free” from the Steam Store.

What?

I predict: no card drops.

Why should someone watch GOTV if he has never played csgo (like against humans)?
Maybe interesting for LAN parties or does this doesnt count as offline?

you can still go on twitch? like all big events get streamed lol😲

You obviously never watched Valves event on twitch. Streams are unwatchable because of lag. Valve even made experiment for some event with facebook instead of twitch few months ago, so, they are definitely looking for better alternatives.

they've their own streaming platform now too (Steam.TV) used for Dota 2 and CS:GO tournaments.

2019 will see the launch of Soogle, a revolutionary search engine from Valve that can only be used to search for Steam.

And I still wouldn't trust it, if it works the same as the steam store search lol

I watched International via steam.tv and it works really good performance wise (better than twitch)
Now we are waiting to see if drops for csgo tournament will be enabled for watching it via steam.tv or people will still go to twitch and pray to Gaben for cbble case :D

There's no more cobblestone cases this time.

I also thought so, but today I saw this https://twitter.com/wickedplayer494/status/1034972704691154945 (upper right).. dunno why but there is cbble case for some reason, maybe showmatch?

Streams are unwatchable because of lag.

What exactly is the problem? I'm not aware of a general issue of lag on Twitch.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Not lag on twitch, lag inside twitch streams for events. Game just isn't fluid like it should be (csgo and dota).
As far for twitch as platform, ever since they started enforcing 60fps at 1080p it killed performance even on mid performance pcs (eg. old 4cores).
Also, as far for streaming Valve events, production always (!!) fucks up color saturation, so watching game in client and watching it elsewhere makes a big difference.

The simile would be neat but-
For realz, one's gotta be...challenged to actually watch succer...
Probably holds true for most of what's being streamed on whatever topic though ;p

They'd probably watch it because they like it? Unless all sports competitions were all of a sudden only watched by those that practice the sport at the same time?

I mean, I get your point. This product will be niche, but I think it'll garner a player base.

Yeah, that's why I said I get your point. But GOTV is way more versatile, more varied and more rewarding.

Versatile: You can switch through players yourself, go to other modes and so on to watch in a way you want to. Plus, there's no visual quality loss due to streaming, also simple fact of convenience for some.
Varied: Not every event will be streamed. Smaller qualifiers and smaller tournaments will most definitely be more easily accessible through GOTV. Same goes for watching your friends playing and other similar people.
Rewarding: Watching GOTV events on the game will reward you with crates and cheap skins. As far as I'm aware, Twitch doesn't do it and the free version will support the same thing.

But, again, the Twitch part will cut out most of the audience for this game.

you can link your steam with your twitch in order to get drops. Anyways, you are most likely right about the other things.

Does it even have viable bots like UT for solo play?

The AI is pretty disappointing in csgo.

It goes from "freaking dumb" to "freaking dumb but with aimbot"

+100, the most accurate description.

At least they're not hard bot Zenyatta in OW, though ;-;

The Zenyatta bot in hard training matches ALWAYS headshots from across the map, it's ridiculous.

So, pretty much the same as it was in 2004. Good to know Valve managed to achieve zero improvement in a decade and a half in this area then.

The official excuse is that if bots had the iq of a drunk chicken then people would kick human players to get them and tbh I can't argue with that

So, you say the average CS:GO player has the mental capabilities of a drunk chicken?
I think it is pretty offensive.
You should apologise to the chicken. =P

I really think that they're doing this for 2 reasons: To give a taste for new players and, maybe, remove the ability to have bots on the main version. Anyway, this is useless, i don't know why they're always spending their time with nothing.

Ye, this is what first came to my mind when they announced it, but I think it'll still require ownership of full licence to be eligible for drops. Fifty fifty for now if this will work.

It was not needed to own the game to get a drop anyways.

The release notes are dated yesterday and to me that would indicate that they were supposed to launch this yesterday? Yet i dont see any free variant on the store page currently. (Even the reddit thread pointing this out has posts from 14 hours ago which puts it in the yesterday category too, although perhaps only by a few hours.)

Well I guess it's not a bad idea? I know people like my dad who enjoy unwinding by beating up defenseless bots without ever playing online. I do wish more online games would add even just basic bots. So when someone releases an online game that's not one of the 'major' franchises it will still have something to do when the servers die a week after launch.
My library is littered with the corpses of dead multiplayer only games.
