I always found Fallout 3 to be better and easier to play for hours on end and I've never been able to put my finger on why. On paper FNV should be the superior game but I still didn't nearly enjoy it as much. I think one of the problems I had with it is that you don't constantly feel on edge like in 3, I just found there was too many friendly npc's around and too many friendly settlements. Maybe one day I'll go back and it will change my mind. I'd like to see an Obsidian take on Fallout 4 though

It is designed to be an open-world sandbox, this is why. NV pushes you to participate in a story, FO3 lets you play in a virtual theme park.

I liked both, but NV is my favourite of all games I've played. Everything was great there, besides performance and combat, with its features it encouraged me to replay it several times with different choices or character builds and playstyles. Also DLCs were a nice little addition to the game offering unique experience, especially Old World Blues or Blood Money.

New vegas, 3 is broken and not as good story wise and gameplay wise.

New Vegas, definitely. pretty much the only things i liked about 3, meanwhile, were dogmeat (because puppy), RL-3 (although his "neutral karma" requirement is bunko), and point lookout (because what the hell just happened). New Vegas, meanwhile....writing's better, the companions are more interesting, the setting was more fun to go through, there were a lot more choices that felt like they mattered, crafting mechanics were much more interactive, you could sleep with a robot, and OLD WORLD BLUES
