I got the franchise pack, but I doubt it's gonna be bringing any noteworthy changes. I actually liked the basic graphics from before where everything isn't shiny. It makes more sense for the console owners since they get a resolution boost at least.

when they were on sale?
I'm currently unable to search using phone)

such a dick move, pulling same shit as the guacamele dev with their "gold" edition, please buy our game again. It seems like very worrying trend lately, some dev's trying to resell same game with light patches, hope it doesn't get as popular as the DLC's.

:( Sniff. My Darksiders 1 key is retail. I own everything in the pack, but Steam doesn't count me as owning the pack.

And yet the franchise pack contains nothing extra. Sucks... the usual treatment in such a case is having the pack in your library for almost all my games.

Did you buy the franchise pack, or did you happen to get all the DLC? :o

How does one tell if they are qualified or not?
That's really lame of them that people have to own the franchise pack.
Was the soundtrack on sale? Am surprised so many people own it separately.

It's not what Nordic wanted to do. They initially wanted to give everyone that had DS1+2+DLC but Steam can't handle it technically so they had to tie it to franchise pack ID. They explained this in the thread and subsequent replies.

Steam says I own the pack so ... I'll just take Steam's word for it ... can't remember where I actually got it from. xD
EDIT: I also think "Deathinitive" is a stupid name and rather odd to pronounce.

Wow ... I never would have guessed. ;-}
Also there's a rather large difference between a username and the name of a consumer product.

Free upgrade being only for franchise owners seems to be more Valve's fault for not being able to properly check who owns what DLC than Nordic's intent.
Would not surprise me at all, as Steam storefront has no problem selling you DLC packs and individual DLC items included in those packs at the same time, and on more than one occasion has DLC show up as base games - see Fallout New Vegas: Courier Stash for example.
With discount during launch week, price for the upgrade is be around $6. Nowhere near perfect, still a better deal than most other devs/publishers offer.
Meanwhile, if you're a GOG customer instead: free upgrade if you have both base game and complete DLC pack, 80% discount if you have base game only.

licenses_for_app 50650 with Steam started in "-dev" mode, so that you have the "Console" option, and if have "License packageID 18777:" you have the Franchise Pack and you will get it for free.
I post that especially for @Quaestio and for others

or you just go to your licenses page and see if it's there.

Seems like a cash grab from the publishers. Nordic weren't the original developers of the franchise and only acquired Darksiders when THQ went down.
I suspect that since they didn't get a dime when the games were first released, this program is aimed at getting some money from early buyers/fans. Another clear indication of this is that the tier 2 discount will only be available for one week, betting on the impulsiveness of customers with a deadline.
Also, a graphic update and some bug fixes is more of a patch than a new game. I will not buy this.

Well that is bull. I own 1 + 2 + all the dlc but not franchise pack eventhough I own everything in it. Even bought 1 on the day of release. Pfft, maybe on some bundle then, not going to buy it now if there isn't some miraculously huge new things.

It just camed out.
The standar version of Darksiders 2 it seems to be removed
Comment has been collapsed.
they should give it for free for owning 1 and 2, not trying to rip us off by selling it again.
They purposely give the game for free only for owners of Franchise pack, because they know tons of ppl have 1 and 2 from humble bundle, fucking ripoff imo.

I'll just quote this again:
"
Our original plan was to have the free copy unlocked for everyone owning Darksiders II and ALL DLCs, but unfortunately this was not possible from a purely technical point of view (on Steam). Therefore we chose to give our loyal fans the closest possible option to this original plan:
"
TL;DR: This is because Valve can't get their act straight, not because the publisher wants to milk people for cash

I don't know why you defend this shitty publisher, that quote is just bullshit from publisher trying to blame Valve instead of themselves to look good, that's a method from publishers to give as less as possible free copies, since DLCs are mostly worthless, most of ppl wont have it, this also ripsoffs buyers who pre ordered the game or bought when it released, so the one to blame here is the publisher, Valve has nothing to do with publisher being so shitty against owners of their game, they could just stay quiet and give no one a free copy, just the 80%, now it looks like they ripoff some users and not others, and the ones who spend most money on their games(not me) obviously don't get it for free.

Same "shitty" publisher did bother to rip out GfWL and fix up some stupid bugs in Red Faction: Armageddon as regular free updates for one, after they took it over from THQ. That shows more dedication to their customers than some other publishers, who'll happily push out a shitport and promptly abandon the game. (Like, ehh.. THQ when they owned RF: Armageddon, or Activision with pretty much everything - Prototype 2 being the worst offender.)
And even if they do charge you, they offer bigger discount than other companies fond of doing updated releleases.
Square-Enix:: 75% off if you have all DLC and if you're lucky, otherwise 50% off.
Capcom: Discount ? HAHAHA no, full price or GTFO. Unless you count the SSF4:AE to USF4 upgrade, in which case you pay half price vs. full rerelease and get fucked out of SSF4:AE costume packs - if you want those you're pack to full price.
So "ripoff" is relative too.
Drinkbox Studios of Guacamelee fame ? See Capcom.
Sure, it'd be cool and better all around if everyone who owned DS2 in any form (even just the base game) got the new edition for free. But compared to the competition, Nordic isn't nearly as bad as you paint them to be.
And look at Valve: They can't even make sure DLC is properly listed as DLC in their storefront (See: Fallout New Vegas Courier's stash, Titan Quest Immortal Throne, probably others), or figure out what DLC packs contain what DLC (see season passes and GOTY upgrades all over the place showing up as seperate DLC nex to the DLCs they contain, with last week's Dinsey Infinity shitstorm being a particularly good example where Steam store would happily let you spend twice the money for the same content).
Even this site is hampered by the fact that they can't get their act straight - it's no secret you can enter giveaways for DLC that you already own because the Steam API is garbage in that area.
If publishers are dependent on the same steam APIs (and they probably are), then Valve deserves at least part of the blame here.

So you feel like you should get all the dlc for free, while the people that get the Deathinitive edition for free actually paid for the dlc? I think they should only give it to people that have all dlc. And as mentioned above, that is not possible on steam (still, they might have though of a different way).

Same here, I don't have the soundtrack also.
I guess I wasn't attracted to buy the soundtrack alone, now I can't find it anywhere.
Well, I guess no dice for me.
Comment has been collapsed.
As far as the soundtrack goes, do you mean to qualify for the free copy of Deathinitive Edition? I'm not sure it matters to be honest, even though it was part of the Franchise Pack (I think?). I read a comment from one of the devs that sounded like they just want people to have the other DLCs to qualify, or possibly the Season Pass at a minimum. I also have everything except for the Soundtrack because I'm not really into that sort of thing. Like I said it may not matter though. The way they handled this is kind of sloppy but it sounds like they are working towards an alternate & fair solution for those who own most of the content but didn't get it through the Franchise Pack.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, what I mean is to qualify to get the free copy of Deathinitive Ed, according to Franchise pack list, I only need to have Soundtrack DLC.
Well, you're right. It doesn't matter though, some people still said that you really need to have the Franchise Pack it self to have the free Ed. Some also said that it specifically must bought on Steam store.
I won't hold my breath here, as I already have it most.
I guess, the developer of Van Helsing is a lot better, offering a new free game to have all the main game, although without the DLC.

Nordic Games is giving Deathinitive Edition for all, who owns Darksiders franchise pack, but if you bought D1+D2 separately, you just get 80% discount for the first week of sales.
Sounds good for the first sight, but it's like a dick move for buyers of separate games.
Details on their steam discussions
UPD.: Finally, they've added an autocheck and giving away for new version of DS2:
