So yesterday I went and got Torchlight for free on GOG, and now they have all sorts of sales on there... I'm wondering, would it be worth it to take advantage of this 24 hour sale, or wait for the Steam sale? The only reason I am skeptic is because I prefer to use Steam to organize my games, and I can't put non-steam games in there without them disappearing when I log back on, and GOG doesn't give Steam keys, just an actual copy of the game (can you believe that, someone who actually sells the game...). Is it worth it? Do you think Steam will have better sales? And is GOG completely safe to use?

GOG is completely safe to use. There are plenty of games on GOG that are not on Steam, so the "worth" depends on what games you want.

Yeap, for some of us (oldtimers) steam still haven't got all the best games :)

I'm looking at the Thief series, Miasmata, FTL, and the Baldurs Gate stuff (Baldurs gate might be removed). All of the games I said are on Steam, so should I remove them and use Steam since I prefer to use it? Or just take advantage of it now?

if you're looking at the baldur's gate stuff its actually cheaper on gamersgate's regular price than gog's sale(i got the whole dnd anthology pack for $6 when gg had a sale)....

I love gog though

edit- huh, actually it isn't
if bg(1+2) is all you want its now half the cost of gamersgate right now. last time gog did a sale on them they only put it on sale for $7 or something unless you spent >$40 on everything else dnd to bundle with it

If you want FTL, get it from here. Same price and gives you a Steam key.

The version of Baldur's Gate on GOG is not the same as the one on Steam (I think). The Thief Series is typically $6.24 on Steam during sales, so I would wait for that one. This is the cheapest Miasmata has been, but I would not be surprised to see it 75% off during the Steam summer sale. Conclusion: I would wait.

Okay, thanks! I can do with waiting just because I don't need more games on backlog as I finish Fallout 3, so I can wait until the sale ends... Thanks for the info!

i don't like GOG, because i don't feel i get a legal copy of game, i get prove only when i enter GOG.com.
When i use Steam, i see every single game i ever bought with achievements etc.
GOG makes sense only if you buy game with multiplayer

Except you dont own Steam games, you rent them so your argument is kinda invalid. (in many ways)

I hear it's a legitimate DRM, they just give you the game, not a license for it...

gog is completely safe
(slightly safer than steam even since if apocalypse happens and the grid goes down you don't loose your games :)

This is true, but I can just go offline in Steam...

I think he means that is Valve goes bankrupt (or some other disaster) and steam disappears completely we lose all our licenses permanently.

Ah, well, hopefully Valve doesn't go bankrupt because I have $675 worth in games on there, and some people have $2000+ on there... That would suck...

also they give TONS of quality extras except the games, + when you're buying bundles you dont pay for the games you own which is so much better than Steam, and not only that but you can also choose which games you want.

and their multigame keys only use up the games you need instead of the whole thing and wasting the rest. unused games stay in the key.
