but i think i prefer the FPS-style of DN3D more than Serious Sam's horde-shooter setup

Honestly? Both are almost the same if you ask me. Cheesy one liners, battling aliens, big guns, etc.
In terms of games? Duke Nukem Forever, all I need to say. I think duke 3D is a bit over-rated anyway. I always liked Blood and Doom more.

Serious Sam. Unlike Duke, recent Serious Sam games don't suck.

SS3 was awesome. DNF was probably the only game I uninstalled after only a few levels played in the last few years. I always tend to finish my games, no matter how bad they are.

Seriously though, both Duke and Sam are awesome. Haven't played all of their games but I'll have to side with Duke on this one.

Duke Nukem is just a parody of action movies and doesn't really have originality.

Personally I prefer Serious Sam but that's probably because I've played all his games while I... looks around defensively... haven't played Duke Nukem 3D. Dodges hate.
