"You do not have permission to view this giveaway, since you've been blacklisted by the giveaway creator." is what appears when I try to see tha page of a game I won. Why? Is it a bug? Did I do something wrong?

No, the respectable thing to do, if you don't want to give away games to people within certain conditions, you simply set a CV / level limit, or make a private giveaway, link to it through the forums, and announce your custom rules there.

It's common courtesy to not insult random people for the lack of foresight in others. :P

I personally don't mind ratio so much(and that is a poor way of comparing it anyway) but for anyone who had enough to enter this site not bother donating even a single cheap game(99% sale is fine, giving free games is the other-and main- reason I add people to blacklist) after winning several is automatic blacklist for me.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This site is based on users donating games for other users. This works better when more people donate, and it feels more fair. Just entering to win is fine, but if you win a large number of games and don't give anything then people will rightly label you.

That said, at some level this site does function as a gift trading site, where people gift games they don't want to other people who don't need to win them and won't play them.

In your case games seem to fall into two camps: those not played, and those not activated on your account. The second is against SG rules. The first is an indication that you're part of this useless gifting game.

from FAQ:

You should only enter to win giveaways for yourself, and if you win a game, it must be activated and redeemed to the Steam account used during registration. If a friend is interesting in joining giveaways, they'll need to register for their own account.

Nothing in the rules dictate that every user NEEDS or REQUIRES to give away games. Nor is it against the rules to not read the rules, although both are suggested.

Sure, but why enter a giveaway if you are not interested in the game at all? It's not like you've payed for the points you get.
Entering a giveaway you are not interested in playing is a bit useless. "Yay I've won a game, to bad I'm never gonna play it"

You will get a suspension x's the amount of infractions you have.
5 days for each non-activated game. Not a permanent ban.
And it may not even be 5 days for each, depends on the mod doing the math.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

it will, as for first time being caught you will probably get a timed suspension not permament. Idk how it works for multiple offences at te same time. Usually not activaed game = 5 days ban, so in this case it will be probably 20 days or more, but when you get back these blacklists will remain.

Also repeating offences may lead to permament ban.

Do you give all games by friending in steam?

Permalink

Nope, why?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well in that case I feel I should say that back when I first joined this site I sent gifts to people's e-mail precisely because I didn't want an answer and added on steam when I wanted one(or for keys). Seemed pretty obvious to me to the point I was completely surprised when I realized some of the people sending e-mails actually expected an answer. Now this could be me being exception and all but over time here I noticed plenty of people thinking the same for e-mail and especially the new key feature.

So there is the problem; a group expects a thanks, another doesn't care either way and the other finds it annoying. And from what I have seen the first and third group aren't really much different in size so unless it is noted in the giveaway(the latter occasionally does so but the former rarely) there isn't really a way to know if giving an answer to e-mail or trying another way of contact for key feature is being polite or being rude. It is why at this point I love when giveaway creators add me on steam that way I don't have to keep wondering or looking through their giveaways hoping for a hint either way.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hm, not really sure what to say. To me it is just common sense to say thank you to people who gift me things. I am always so happy myself when winning that I can't help myself but saying thanks. It never crossed my mind anybody could be offended by that.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think chrnno is right, if the giveaway description doesn't sa anything and creator put a key or link on /won. It's not opening a way of communication: creator has the e-mail of the winner. And winner shouldn't add creator because can be considered pressure before the key is provided. And if provided by SG, seems that doesn't want to communicate. When some users do tens of giveaways, seems less interested on start a conversation, so the tendency is accept that the creator didn't "open" a communication channel, because it's not interested on such communication.

Probably culture also altere that. I think most of the communications I had on trades and game wins and gifted are considered strange by 90% of my interlocutor. I've been said that in the past some times, and generally is based on culture differences and what is expected of the communicatiions for such purposes.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I personally follow what troieve described. I consider it rude if the winner does not that me at any point during the process. Leave a comment in the giveaway. Contact me through Steam or leave a message on my profile. Send me a email. The method does not matter but the intention will. This is one of the primary factors why I do not do that many public giveaways anymore. From time to time, I return to drop something on public side hoping that this time it will go differently. Often it does not.

How can winner send an email if doesn't have creator's mail. Is creator who has winner's mail? If creator sends key by mail or chat, THEN it's when becomes easier to thank and do a more meaningul interaction/chat.

Many of the comments here seem to be very insulting, even if I'm at fault and you're correct does not give you the right to insult me. Do you read every ToA you come across?

I am not insulting you. I am stating a fact. You do not take time to read, even the easiest print to see.
Chill your font, everything will be okay. And yes, yes I do.

I've found the information you were looking for in 2 minutes not knowing what group you had to be in to enter the giveaway and I couldn't check that on SteamGifts. You were so lazy that you haven't even read the opening post of the group you've been invited to, only the free game was what mattered to you.

And there's no doubt IF you are at fault. You are, case closed.

Anyway, leaving this topic open will only evolve to even more of "beating a dead horse" kind of thread. I believe you've seen your wrongs already. My advice: close this topic, wait till your ban is over, read the rules and participate in a mannered way.

I'm not saying I'm not at fault, clearly I am. After all aren't these free giveaways?
I don't puss out, I'm going to wait for a ban, I am not going to read the rules as I already did 30 minutes ago and I am indeed going to participate in a mannered way as I intended to since I joined the site.

from your perspective these are free GAs. From perspective of GA creator - he had to pay with his own money (eventually his time if he farmed them on tremor or something like that) for each and every GA he's made. If you were to spend your hard earned cash on game to give away to someone else you'd want it to go to the person who actually wants the game for himself not just to freely profit from something you paid for via trading or regifting.

Yes, that is my perspective and that is the truth, they are free for me. A GA creator decides whether to GA a game or not, it's his choice. He can not do it and avoid me having a chance of getting it, he can make a private giveaway, he has so much choices. I'm taking what's given to me, if it's not obligatory to give back I won't if I don't want to.

he decides to give the game away thinking that winner will follow the rules and activate it, not regift it and when found out spend next hours stating how he was entitled to it, how even if he broke the rules he feels everything is fine. You don't only broke the rules, you continuously show yourself as entitled ungrateful little brat.

When we're fast & furiously typing, we tend to make a lot of spelling mistakes. Calm down, I can barely understand what you're saying.
I am not entitled, show me where I claimed to have priviledge and special treatment.
I am not ungrateful, I don't show appreciaton, but I certainly feel grateful to everyone making ga's.
And "little brat" is just an insult I believe I am not deserving.

First of all you lie here: http://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/5iqVlDU just to change your mind when you find out we may actually see you are lying here: http://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/0LMtApU. That makes you a little brat, cause this is what little brats do - they lie straight to your face and when caught on it pretend they didn't.

You show your entitlement here: http://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/2dstvsU, also in multiple comments where you say how you don't feel guilty at all, because you just didn't bother to read the rules and follow them, which somehow makes it fine for you not to follow them.

And you are ungrateful, because you simply are. You don't care because these are just "free GAs" (http://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/0unGP5T) nothing more so what does it matter if you regift them to your friends or not.

Thanks for summing it up so nicely. I almost fell for his "sorry, it's my fault" attitude.

Ban island is really boring !.There`s nothing to make you happy like funny gifs that you can find them much here in this awesome forum .
Plz, Say NO to Ban hammer coming to you !
Plz, See the dark future in ban island that will surround you .
Plz, notice there is no one to talk to you in ban island :( !.Just some spirits talking themselves

I am not as fortunate to be able to afford 4 games in an instant. I welcome thee ban island! I really couldn't care less if I got permabanned, yes it would be a shame but I can always find a way to buy a game if I REALLY wanted to play it.

Eventually, I'd play them of course. I wouldn't let a working game go to waste, I'm not collecting games just to have them.

But you still don't own the games you won, since you didn't activate them. As such, you can't play them.

My friends do, and they've probably played them

But YOU can't, and you certainly can't be said to collect games if you aren't even activating them yourself.

The important thing is that you are owning up to your mistake and willing to accept you are wrong, and not making up stupid excuses why your rule breaking isn't really breaking the rules. You'll probably get a temporary ban, but can't really say how long.

so you don't want to play the games and you're even unsure if your friends play them.... but still you took the chance away from someone who really wanted to play the game, when they entered the GAs. not exactly a nice thing to do.

Dont worry, maybe this help you understand why you've been blacklisted (same as every one of us who win on those GAs)

For the supporters on our greenlight campaign the key distribution will begin now and we will have giveaways until everyone receives their keys. It is going to be done through steamgifts. If you want your key just go enter the giveaway. Winners will be temporarily added to my steamgift blacklist so no one will be able to win more than once. These giveaways are DeadlyProfits4U group only giveaways, don't worry if you don't win I will be running these frequently and expanding the giveaway size when possible(i'm currently limited to 96 giveaways). The link can be found below for the first 50 key giveaway.

Was it the "Deadly Profits"?

I think that this was a vote and get a key group. So when a user get its key, he get blacklisted to avoid him to enter future giveaways of the same promo.

I know what you mean though. Blacklists are a way to give your games to people who you think deserve them. Nothing to be ashamed of using.

guess more like almost 3 weeks ;) 4 games not activated should equal 20 day ban. but as long as 20 is less than 21 it will show 2 weeks ;)

Yes, much like everything else with math and dates on a profile, you can hover over it and it will show the end date of suspension.

his own fault. he could close the topic and minimize damage, especially as multiple ppl told him to close it, wait his ban and come back, but he kept bumping it himself telling how he doesn't feel guilty and how it's ok, he just didn't read the rules, because who would have read all of them. he got what he deserves ;p
