STARLIGHT INCEPTION JUST REACHED ITS GOAL!

I wanna say thank you so much to all the people in here that donated. I had a feeling SteamGifts was the right place to post about this and I was correct, such fantastic generosity and kindness. You guys actually made a difference, thank you. :)

Original Post:

Hey guys,

Starlight Inception is a Kickstarter game that is very close to being successfully funded. The bad news is there is only 2 hours left for this game to be successfully funded and its in serious danger of failing.

Garry and his team have been nothing but humble and very gracious over all the support they have gotten. Starlight could become a fantastic game but without help it will never see the light of day.

Here is the link for the Starlight Inception Kickstarter Page where you can find out a lot more (and better) information on the project.

Basically the game is made for all the fans of classic action space sims like the X-Wing series or Wing Commander. A genre I miss and really wish we would see more of nowadays.

Anyway, I hope you guys can help out and fund the project, at the very least show these guys some support and share this with someone in the next couple of hours. :)

PS, a $15 donation gets you the game on Steam!

Lets do it! It looks great. I'd love for this genre to come back.

EDIT: I went in for $31. Looks like it got funded successfully just in the nick of time. Thanks for letting us Know DK

LOL. 1 hour then 118 minutes. Not my kind of game, but let me check my visa gift card. :]

Too kind thank you. :)

Even if it isn't your kind of game it could make someone on SteamGifts happy.

Not sure why, but for some reason I'm still on the fence with this game.

It's understandable, they basically only have concept art and a rough idea of the story to show you at this point. My recommendation is if there was a space sim that you loved you should probably think about getting this game. As I mentioned above, I loved X-Wing and Wing Commander. Judging by how LucasArts has been for awhile as well as what they have released/decided to produce I am fairly certain I will never see another X-Wing game. EA owns the rights for Wing Commander and though there is a fan-created game out recently that I hear is very good (I really need to give that a shot), I think EA has pretty much forgotten that they own that license. That or, like Gary said, publishers just don't want to make space sims.

When I saw that the description for Starlight Inception was: "Starlight Inception is the rebellious stepchild of Wing Commander, X-Wing and Freespace 2, taking a fresh approach to a classic genre" I was instantly sold.

I don't think they talked enough about what exactly the game is in the pitch video, if you read the long description below it, it makes the game sound a lot better.

I am a big fan of the X-Wing and Tie Fighter games, like Freespace 1-2, but barely played Wing Commander. I think I'm in for the $15 level. Now I'm debating if the future DLC could be worth as much as the game or not, at $30, or it might be smarter to just buy it later on as it goes on sale.(eventually)

Thanks so much! I originally intended to just stick to the $15 because I thought I would never play the DLC. I decided to up my donation because most likely the DLC will be good for multiplayer and I was afraid of them not meeting their goal lol.

Fine then, I'm in for $30, the most I've funded into a KS project. This may be one of the only times I will say this: I hope they make and put out a fuck ton of DLC for this game. =P

PLEDGE $30 OR MORE
Special Edition of Starlight Inception, including digital game soundtrack, all future DLC, and all previous reward tiers.

Hmmm, let me think about that...

Read the first couple paragraphs of the description, it explains this. The one about launch DLC is old but the site doesn't allow editing or deleting it. They were nice enough to listen and abolish the idea of launch DLC.

Oh I see, I didn't read the whole description. I only heard of this game when it was mentioned in this thread so I gave it a brief once over. That makes more sense now.

They explained that, Kickstarter doesn't let you edit Perks, you can only add perks. Both of those perks are going to be the same thing. They initially decided to do launch DLC but changed their minds to work harder on the core game and promised to add/work on content once the game is finished.

Is there any kind of you know, agreement that they have to make this game? How long till someone comes along with a kick-starter for a huge remake and makes $1million dollars then goes, oh lol it was a joke, takes money and runs cause I'm sure somewhere on that site it says "no guarantee" or some BS.

Honestly, I'm too lazy about this to actually look into it, but logically I have little worry about that. I couldn't see an organization like Kickstarter operating as it does without a stringent set of standards as to who get's to make one, and making them sign plenty of legal agreements. Slim chance that somebody could try and secure the cash somehow and run from the country, but then they would have to watch over their shoulder for the lawsuit and warrant that would follow them in America, at least.

This came really close to happening already.

Luckily the people interested noticed and the kickstarter was closed. You need to be able to look through the bullshit and find the people/companies that actually need support to make the stuff we love.

I think that's a good example of it not coming close to happening actually.

There was still like 30 days left in their kickstarter when they were discovered to be disingenuous. That means that if a kickstarter is BS it's likely to be noticed fairly early on.

But hey, maybe I'm just a glass half full kind of guy.

Personally not my type of game, but I'll throw 30 bucks in the pot. I think this kind of stuff can help the industry as a whole.

nvm, upping to 37 bucks. I've slowly been raising my pledge since my first one. It'd be a shame if they came this far just to fail.

$30 dollars added. If I don't stop buying games on sale, buying indie bundles, and doing kickstarters, I will never have the money for my 680 to complete my new computer build, and all these games will never be able to get played.

OK I'm in for $30. This premise sounds interesting. Back in the day I used to eat / breathe / sleep these types of space games. I remember playing Elite for the C*64 and I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. Then later on I played Space Rogue, Elite Plus on the PC, the Wing Commander series, X-Wing, Tie-Fighter, etc. I don't know that I'll have time to play this but I feel they deserve support for keeping the genre alive.

Almost exactly my reason for backing it as well. Looking at this game brought back the memories of playing space sims.
