Hint3: Yes, it's a giveaway url. Therefore, it can only be letters/numbers.
Hint4: ↓↑↓↓↑
Hint5: The letter for #4 is hidden amongst the lines. Also, try writing them close together.

This one is much harder!

The last one... well... I have no idea!

Hmmm I like your way of thinking but what if #2 is a H and #4 is a b?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, I'm sure the second one is an H, and I think #1 and #3 are n or o. But I don't think #4 is a b, because there are two horizontal lines in this: キ. It could have been a b if the symbols were: ナュ.
But maybe I'm not creative enough...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Could #1 and #3 be a D?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That was my first thought too, but then I saw ↓↑↓↓↑ and I suppose it tells us the capitalization, so #1 and #3 are lower case.
Or maybe mecorx is trying to deceive us...

Well, there are only 916,132,832 possible combinations...I think I'll just try them all. Probably the only well I'll "solve" any of these puzzles.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually I think there are only 358,800 422,500 ... seriously restricted solution space ... let's start bruteforcing!

Edit: yeah I think I never get these calculations right the first time

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

hmmm...isn't it (26+26+10)^5, or am I completely forgetting how to calculate these things?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, that's totally correct if there weren't any hints. But considering what we already know ...

  1. is lowercase letter. 26 possibilities
  2. is uppercase letter, 26 again
  3. is same as first, so that's only 1 possibility
  4. is lowercase, but not the same as 1st/3rd, so 25 possibilities here
  5. is uppercase, but not the same as 2nd, that's another 25

... so that's only 26 x 26 x 1 x 25 x 25 = 422,500

I didn't take numbers into consideration; maybe that's not right and there are numbers after all. I just assumed that because of the upper/lowercase hint.

Edit: Can't use * for multiplication ... well then, x it is.

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh, good...I was just ignoring hints, as I don't trust these puzzlers for anything - for all I know, they expect us to puzzle out which hints to ignore :P

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You can use * if you put a \ before it

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

do you not consider using any number ? because, its very rare to find url that containt only letter :3
and mecorx mention that "Hint3: Yes, it's a giveaway url. Therefore, it can only be letters/numbers."

then will be 36 x 36 x 1 x 35 x 35 = 1.587.600 cmiiw :3

* Imitating student's voice *
BUT IT IS REALLY EASY! YOU DON'T NEED TO BRUTEFORCE ANYTHING, YOU HAVE THE SOLUTION IN PLAIN SIGHT ALREADY! I'M SURE YOU CAN SOLVE IT IN NO MORE THAN 5 MINUTES, WITHOUT ANY BRUTEFORCING!

* Back to perro's voice *
I had to use bruteforce to solve it T_T But combining it with some guessing, or it would be too many combinations. I feel so alone...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually, 41% of all giveaway codes (52^5 out of 62^5) contain only letters ... that's not so rare. And as I said, since there is no upper/lowercase for numbers, I read that from mecorx's hint. Clarified: I read from mecorx's hint that there are no numbers, since he gave case for all chars and there is no upper/lowercase for numbers.

But anyway, all this is just number wanking. Solving this requires a different approach, and you are right, I wouldn't exclude numbers completely. I just like to think they are less probable, because I still have faith that mecorx did not lie.

キュ = p, b
む = D

Ok, I give up!! I'm almost completely sure I've tried all combinations of these characters:

  1. a b d h n o p q
  2. H
  3. a b d h n o p q
  4. b e* f* h p q*
  5. C D E F G J L O U

And I've always been redirected to the homepage!! ‎(ノಥ益ಥ)ノ ┻━┻

This list (actually, mecorx's reply to it) made me find it, so I'd feel bad for not sharing ... on the other hand, it's hard to share without spoiling now that I've found it ...

I think that 1./3. is rather obvious, my list had only one character there. Just pick the most probable :P And I think you can narrow down 5 some more, I had 3 possibilites left.

I had ~60 possibilities left to bruteforce ... and I'm not ashamed :P

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

#1 / #3 is not obvious to me, but I've narrowed it down a bit. I have 4 possibilities for them as well as for #5.
So now I have to try ~300 combinations... Goooood!

Comment has been collapsed.

I've done everything I can think of to interpret all of the hints and attempts people have made, but apparently I'm blind and dumb.

I've tried every possible combination of these with nothing:
a b d h n o p q u
H
a b d h n o p q u
b e f h k p q r t
C D E F G J L O U

I give up...I'm thinking about writing a link checker to parse the whole bloody site at this point.

No need to parse. Just make a HEAD request and see if the response is 200 or 302 ... (well and for 302, check if it goes to / or just changes the part after the last / ... but that's details)

... not that I'd do anything like that. :P

I was using the term loosely, but yeah, I was already dropping sets of 50 into an online tool I found and just looking for 302s instead of 301s...of course I didn't find any in my test set or I wouldn't still be talking about this, but I did throw a few known GA codes in to verify the concept. True parsing would purely be interesting to distill things down further into active/ended/pending and locked/accessible, and then you'd want to grab the name of the game, the number of entries, time remaining, whether or not you've already entered....and at some point you realize you've written a passive bot, which is risky territory and not playing fairly.

End of the day, I'll probably just stick with Excel to generate the permutations and the 50 at a time online tool to help manage a little bit of brute forcing. If anything beyond that, it would just be a simple tool to take a set of 5 limited character sets as parameters to iterate through and just check the return codes.

I have to agree with what mandrill says on all accounts, except 1 / 3 which to me wasn't obvious at all, but you should at least be able to narrow them down a little bit too.
