So it turns out we're finally getting a PC version of Grandia!

No word yet on if the port is based on the PS1 or Saturn version of the game, but hopefully it's the Saturn one since that version is the original (if they ported from PS1 then it would be a port of a port, and that almost never ends well) plus the Saturn version is generally considered the overall superior version.

Anyone else excited?

Here's the start of the game for those not familiar with it.
And here's something for checking out the thread.

UPDATE: The port has finally been show off. Sadly, it looks like it's based off the inferior PS1 version. This means it has all the same issues as the PS1 version such as misaligned textures, lack of shadows, and low resolution 2D backgrounds instead of the 3D ones on Saturn. All the textures also seem to be run through an automatic upscaler instead of being the originals or being redrawn properly, as a result everything looks muddy. Audio has missing effects, and 3D elements have seam issues (likely as a result of the texture filter). You can see footage here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLSa-WNhGPQ

A lot of people speak fondly about Grandia 2 but I've never heard anyone talk about Grandia 1.

Here's hoping we one day get PC ports of Parasite Eve and Vagrant Story.

Bump with update:

The port has finally been show off. The bad news is all the textures seem to be run through an automatic upscaler instead of being the originals or being redrawn properly, as a result everything looks muddy. The battle backgrounds are also 2D like on PS1 instead of 3D like on Saturn. Audio has missing effects, and 3D elements have seam issues (likely as a result of the texture filter). Hopefully they include the ability to disable that filter. I'll take pixels over smudge any day.

Are the differences between versions just graphics?

The Saturn version had a companion disc called "Digital Museum" which had extra side quests and such, it also had slightly better quality audio. Other then that yea it's mostly graphics differences, but some of the changes definitely have an impact:

Saturn (top of each set) vs PS1 (bottom of each set):

Yeah that's the only thing I ever care about when games get ported/remade. New actual content. Too bad the Gamecube version of Tales of Arcadia cut out some of the content while adding more than the Dreamcast version. Is the remake going to have the Digital Museum stuff?

Well since the new port is based on the PS1 version, it's looking very doubtful it'll get the Digital Museum stuff.

Oh that sucks then. I never played Grandia 1 so will probably add it to my wishlist anyway. 2 was a really great game.

That Saturn stuff is beautiful. Not shown are how the floors of towns or battlefield encounters are totally different.
