From Apr to Dec 2013, I spent $2,400 on PC games. That's $267 every month!!!!!!

I thought bundles could have helped me save money but it turns out that the very opposite is true. I've spent way much more money than I would have normally paid for games.

What's worse is that I can't stop it. Whenever there is a bundle, even if I know there's absolutely no way I'll ever play those games and I don't like the games at all, I'll still buy them all.

If it's serious enough for you to use your wife's card after having yours blocked, see a therapist soon. A readiness and need of getting better are necessary for healing - you seem to have both if you ask random people on SG for help.

You spent more on games than I spent in everything together so I am thinking 'first world problems' here.

lel till you have the money for it I don't see what's the problem. (first world problems really) I can barely afford a decent game myself, I can't even buy a bundle for a few bucks. Sorry for not feeling sorry for you.

What does your family say to this? O.o 'Cause I'd be pretty annoyed (not to use harsher words) if my hypothetical husband was buying games no one would play (and used my card for that after having his blocked). Not to mention that I'd went insane having so many unfinished (or not even started) games - I'm incredibly frustrated that I have like 20+ games, no time to play and I'd like to beat them all (well, except Enclave, but that was an accident on my part).

I feel your pain...I've already set aside 1200$ for 20 PC pre-orders this year alone. That doesn't include any unannounced titles or speculated titles to be released in 2014. It also doesn't include indie games or bundles...or consoles which I'm on the edge about getting one or not (only games that intrigue me are MGS, Uncharted, FF games, and the possibility of RDR2).

Oh and I wanted to get a new liquid cooling setup this year but we'll about that later along in the year.

Dang. I'd really recommend waiting at least a little bit on those to get them at a discount. Most games are given a 33%-50% discount pretty fast on Steam. There are a few games that aren't on Steam, like Blizzards games, but I'd imagine that most of those are through Steam. At least you should pre-order the ones you want the most and then wait on the ones you're going to wait to play a bit. I know that I take quite a while to get around to playing games.

Well there are some that I will wait for reviews as for the others, I guess it depends on my backlog of games during that time that will decide if I wait or not and how far away the sale is at that point.

  1. SG is worst place to ask help about problems like this and I hope you understand that no one here don't even try to found "root of the problem". But if you ask... let's try.
  2. You like games, don't you? But do you really enjoy playing them? You said that you haven't enough time for games but is this the main problem of why you play them so little. As I think you like games but don't really like play games.
What I think so? I think I have the same thing. I didn't spend too much, but it's still way more that I really was need. And I feel that I like games more that I like to play them. Sounds silly, but this is how I see.
    These means that...
  3. "Buy one game when you finish one" sounds now very silly, huh? For normal people this rule may work but not for us. These thing ('buy game' and 'beat game') shouldn't being connected. Because for you they aren't connected at all. This may sounds strange but this is how I think it works. You don't pay to play to enjoy. You pay to enjoy instead.
    That's why we have next.
  4. It's depends on do you want to fix it or not. If not just buy games forward. If you think it's abnormally just never mind. There aren't normal person anymore. Each has it's own problems. Not a big deal. Just move on and hide this thing from other people. They all have problems but they don't like others' ones.
Or if you want to fix it. At this point I can't help you. And almost no one could. You need professional help here. You likely don't want to go to psychologist but you can at least:
    1) Google. Read and analyze. May be find an answer it's not so hard but you should be honest with yourself.
    2) Introspection or just analyzing yourself. You may notice some interesting facts about yourself. Note them and think about them. You can know much more about yourself if you want.
    3) New hobby. Something simple. Avoid stamp collecting,it could cost even more :D
And here my useless try to help ends.
    Good luck.

The cure is simple and obvious. Uninstall Steam and all games, then find another hobby :) There's no other way if you're addicted.

You're too ambitious about gaming and there are many better ways to devote your energy to, like working for charity.

Between two 3DSs and a Wii U, games for those consoles (and a few more for the PS3 I inherited,) and a handful of Steam games... I think we spent about half what you spent. Maybe a little over $1200. But that's for two people, and we won't be needing to buy any new consoles for a good long while.

Damn, dude.

If you spend all that money and actually play the games, I don't see a problem.
If you just buy for the sake of buying then there's a problem, time to do something about it?

I'm confused, you're either full of shit or you're buying only newly released games for Australian prices.

I not spend for games at 2 yers 200$ Instead buy bundles, buy what you want at daily sale or other (wintersale, summersale etc.), you will get better games, which you will play, and probably spend lower amount of money. Mayby you have too much money, that you can't stop that:P If you don't have many it is not hard - simple you will not have money for them. You can do themselves limit of games, which you not play and if this is over don't buy, when it drop then buy. As now you will spend moneys for something, which you never use.

You can do list of wish games and buy only that games, and don't buy bundles which not include games which are not on it.

Same here too. Or well... I got some bought from shops (L4D1-2,CS) when I was young and didn't knew about trading.

And of course, I got Humble Bundles too which I just normally buy to give back to charity a bit... ;)
