My first contact was way before I finished the game - I played it for about 2h before I ragequited - I couldn't even get through the 'tutorial' :D but then yeah, I spent pretty a lot of time playing to complete all the achievements ;)

I just based the three weeks on the time between the "Reach Lordran" and "The Dark Soul" achievements. I started out the same way -- I almost ragequit in the tutorial and again when I died twice immediately after killing the tutorial boss (losing all those sweet sweet souls), but once I made it to the Undead Burg and watched how masterfully the game progressed I started loving it. I'm almost done NG now and still having a blast - enough that I might even give NG+ a try once I get there. I'd say it's the most fun I've had playing a non-coop (mostly) game in years.

Also as far as I remember my first time I was playing it I didn't have DSFix or any gamepad or controller - that might have been my problem with the game then. But when I came back with everything working and I figured out how it works and how not to die I had lots of fun.
I love that you can go pretty much anywhere you want from the beginning - it's just harder if you don't progress the main way. My first playthrough I did all the side bosses, not exactly in advised order - more like whenever I saw something big I was like 'I need to kill this O.O'

164 hours is pretty low to get all the achievements. Did you get help from guides ? I am not even close to %100 with 106 hours.

Is it? I didn't look for any help, I didn't even know for most of my first playthrough that you can actually summon allies to help with boss fights :D

Yah, I was super stingy on using humanity for most of the game, so didn't do much summoning or kindling. Until I found those baby skeletons outside Nito's fog and farmed the crap out of them. Now almost everything is nicely kindled.

Weapon upgrade achievements, acquireing all rare weapons definitely need NG+ games. Not sure though, i pvped for at least 20 - 25 hours of my playtime.

You actually need to finish the game 2 times and then play some to collect all the weapons. I rushed every next playthrough, it's easy once you've got nice weapons and decent level - enemies don't scale that much. I didn't play much pvp - I was only invaded few times ;)

What did you end up using as your primary weapon? I'm a dex build pyromancer, so I went with the Gargoyle Halberd for a huge chunk of the game, then Quelaag's Furysword, and now I'm using the Lifehunt Scythe (which hits like a tank but is super slow) with a Silver Knight Spear for anything undead that needs to be perma-dead. I'm not sure that will take me into NG+ though.

Any weapon will do if you are comfortable using it. I personally used Black Knight Greatsword or whatever it was called.
