So, through which do you talk with you gaming companions?
Thank you for telling me! I'll have to give it a try soon too :3

Yup, they come in large packs with Pretend Sugar™ and Obligatory Party™ smell. I buy them on a supermarket near my house, but watch out for those with High Standars™! I heard you lose them too soon D:

I don't think those are sold here. How about we make a deal? I'll give you a 20% cut if you get me some.

Well, I don't have any spare, but perhaps you can get some on some Barely Legal Pawn Shop?

I feel like Skype is more of a problem than a bliss myself too (;

TeamSpeak has always been my go-to VOIP mainly because clans and friends have had servers for it but it's also great software. Ther server software is fairly straightforward too. I had to get onto Mumble once to play with a friend but I didn't like it nearly as much. I agree that Skype is not great. For some games that support VOIP and do it well, I actually prefer using that since other VOIP options are open chat and encourage people to run their mouth. My main example would be Insurgency, because listening to your surroundings and being alert for footsteps is important. Also, people have a tendency to call out enemies when they're dead which IMO is cheating and ruins the game.

Cool feature!
I agree that Skype is not great.
:D
Yes, I can understand that using VoIP on certain cases can have big downsides, but for once I'm glad I don't play games like that with friends. I hardly ever play things that you need to be very serious and meticulous about with friends. I rather accomplish those by the sole company of myself (:

But most of my "social" gaming does tend to be more lighthearted and fun.
Mine too.

I use Mumble and have my own server set up. I haven't used anything else in so long I couldn't really tell you what makes it better from the rest and I'm sure they have the same options for the most part, but here are some that I like:
Sound quality is excellent enough for me. Also if someone yells into their mic it lowers their mic volume automatically so they don't murder your ears. My only complaint is it's not that user-friendly, like holy shit do people seem to have a hard time setting it up, and it was frustrating trying to figure out the permissions at first. At least you can use pictures as welcome messages for your server. (see below) c:

Such detailed info! Thank you a bunch for it all, truly. I had no idea Mumble had so many great features, and I guess that makes me want to try it out ASAP even more. I really dislike the fact that's hard to set up (because while I have the patience to set it up my friends don't) but I guess all those cool features make up for it. When I see programs like this one that have so much to offer, I really question myself if the ease of Skype is really an asset so good to throw the possibility of others trough the window.
It's lovely of you to take your time to write this. I don't think I have any friends to use as lab rats to try this one ATM, but I'll give it a look as soon as I find someone to test it with (:

They only have to set it up once :) in the end it seems worth it since my friends bum it up in the server practically 24/7 just to hang out even when they aren't playing anything. I'm glad if I was helpful, good luck with your search!

I can't speak for all the other things people use but I have heard great things about mumble. I've only used it once and I agree it is a bit of a pain to set up but the quality was nice.
Most if not all of the features tanker listed as in TS3 as far as I know but I don't know which is easier to use in those respects.
I think one nice one in mumble that I don't believe is in TS3 is when people scream it automatically lowers their voice.
The other one might be the game overlay though I know teamspeak has Overwolf (I believe that's the name) which you can add if you want that does the same thing?

Hm... I'll have to look into that, seeing as the volume lowering things was one of the features that caught my eye the most.
I don't know which is easier to use in those respects
I guess I'll have to try both and hope after hope that at least one of them is easy enough to set that I can convince a friend to.
Overlay is really useful, so I'll certainly have to look into that too!

Woah nice! I have friends who have been using it since forever too.

Indeed :D While in a raidcall channel you have a crown beside your name that indicates your raidcall level. Every 5 levels your crown kind of upgrades to a new tier (new look) and you restart the level 1-5 again. You get points per hour spent online in raidcall.
This is my profile, the blue icon is my crown and level that shows beside my name.

I just can't use Skype(well I can, but dislike it)
I second that.
I understand that. Several people here use Steam voice chat too (:

I still prefer just using the good ol' in-game chat. I don't play action/fast paced games though, so it's all good :)

shudders oh well, suit yourself then, to each his own.

Nice :D
Some people say TS is better, others Mumble. Truth is both are getting really recommended (:

I'm more like a lone wolf, I play alone 90% of the time.
Me too! I like to solo stuff even when it's a lot easier to do it with someone else.

In fact I realize that I rarely play with friends (they must have a life or something better to do é_è ), but more with random people on some server.
Games like Dark Soul can be done in Multiplayer but I would have prefered it made in Singleplayer or with togglable offline mode, I really enjoy much more stories, ambiance and the glory of killing a boss when I'm alone. :o

Woah I feel the exact exact same way! Couldn't have put it better myself. I'm really a lover of story modes and offline ones. (:

Hahah now you're just adding things in common for the sake of it :P
You can still add me on Steam if you feel like, though (:

You don't even need to listen to it for us to be friends (:
about the edit: I feel the same way listening to it ):

The edit was because I wasn't expecting a reply.
Also, I see no friend request in my Steams. Or wherever.
Was it an imaginary friend request? I hope I didn't actually decline it. :(

Or am I making things awkward? I wonder...

I'm sure your voice isn't horrendous. Although I'm pretty sure the fact that you're a horse doesn't help much with human understading ):

Mainly Skype, however I am trying to convince my friends to move over to TeamSpeak or something else, because Skype tends to lag some of my games really badly. Main reason I use it is cause my friends want to see my face (and other faces to). Apparently that helps them when playing since they can use facial cues as well as voice to determine if someone is in danger(best panic face + voice is an ongoing game between us (or maybe my face is awesome? (probably not, but one can hope!)))

Same here!

Woah. That's a new one. For me hearing the other player's voice is more than enough, but Lord knows.
or maybe my face is awesome?
I'm sure it is (;

btw, the second link doesn't work

I'm not, actually. Check the youtube link on the poll (:
I know. It's because they won't allow direct redirect to the website due to recent attacks. If you just look at the link, though, you'll realize all you have to do is remove a certain part of it and you're good to go.

There's been an Uprising of game voice chatting recently. So many options I hardly know which ones are really worth using and which ones I should just dump. So this thread has been born. I've selected a few voice chatting software that are made for gaming (or oftenly used for such), and I'd love it if you'd tell me which ones you use (if any)!
Also, if you'd like to leave a comment telling me why you use the one you do, it'd be much appreciated.
VoIP's in no particular order (from 1 to 13):
Well, the gA ends in 3 days!
