Send a ticket about hacked account on steam support. Prefarably if you have a retail game you used on your account. add that key to or make a picture of it with the box.
It can take up to like 3 days before they did something. Depending how much tickets they got

VAC bans don't mean shit if you've been hacked. It's not going to affect the account owner and Steam can reverse that when you get your account back. If you get lucky, he may fuck up and get his account VACced too by mistake.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, they do. Or at least I've seen a lot more stories of them reversing than it remaining in place. VAC isn't God. It does make mistakes, and if your account is in someone else's hands, then it's not your fault and I don't see any reason they wouldn't reverse it.
Comment has been collapsed.
they wont , i have seen many cases like that faulty mw2 dll thing but they wont reverse vac ban for accounts that got hacked , you can post in steam forums and ask if you want.
also proof

yup yup. Well... unless the hacker decides to change the password and e-mail (granted he has access to that too) of your steam account.
EDIT: now that I think about it, steam normally asks you to retrieve a code from your e-mail account when someone decides to access to your STEAM account from another computer. Perhaps this so-called hacker got hold of your e-mail account. Maybe you gave that away to someone you know... or forgot to logout from it in school or something.
Comment has been collapsed.
Which is why they're talking to Valve Support maybe? Because they got shut out of their account and want back in? 9_9

Can you read...? The picture shows the hacker on his account.

I'm sorry, but I have a vast intolerance for people being unable to read what's in front of them.
Comment has been collapsed.
Remember that the first post I sent wasn't incorrect. I was thinking about what the hacker might have access to, hence trying to help the OP figure out how the hacker got hold of his account.
Anyway, whatever, I seriously am not in the mood to argue about such superficial things. Let's move back to the point and try to help ahatf out instead of wasting time?
Comment has been collapsed.
And I wasn't saying it again. Why? Because OP said he had already contacted them in the original post. Hence my present tense post, not future tense.
Comment has been collapsed.
there are a lot of ways to obtain other people's accounts such as fake steam program, brute-forcing the password for an account, brute-forcing the password for an e-mail with steam and restoring password for the account, keyloggers and many more i think...
Comment has been collapsed.
brute-forcing?
I doubt that's even possible
there's like shit loads of combinations/permutations as a password
Comment has been collapsed.
you can click, just dont fill out the passworrd if you dont know lol

Your IP address is usually harmless. Unless you happen to be running a telnet server or something.
Comment has been collapsed.
what is a telnet server and why would it be harmful if someone got a hold of an IP where a telnet server is running?
Comment has been collapsed.
Steam won't recover anything you've lost. They'll just ask for personal details to confirm you are who you say you are (the actual account owner), then they will reset your password which you could've just done yourself...
Yet another reason why Origin support is better than Steams.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not at all. I have 65 games on Steam, 2 on Origin. I prefer Steam in almost all aspects but when it comes down to it, Origin support and customer service is far more superior to Steams.
Last time I had an account issue with Origin, they responded within minutes and resolved my issue then gave me a free copy of Bad Company 2 for my unfortunate experience and apologised on numerous occassions.
Last time I had an account issue with Steam, they took at least 3-4 days to respond to each reply I sent them (in total had to wait for 2 weeks) and then my issue still wasn't even fully resolved. Had to open a second ticket and wait another week till the issue was resolved and not once did they apologise. They also had generic replies consisting of text that was copy+pasted from their support FAQ even after I told them I had read through the FAQ. It was like speaking to a bot.
Comment has been collapsed.
Origin sucks, thus less customers
Less customers, thus faster supports
Comment has been collapsed.
Or maybe it's because they actually give a fuck about their customers? EA specifically hires support staff for the sole purpose of assisting customers with any issues they may have. They also have a support hotline which you can call any time 24/7, along with a live support chat.
What do Steam have? 20 or so part-time employees who assist customers whenever it suits them best via a clogged up support ticket system.
Comment has been collapsed.
I got a game several years ago, it worked with the CD, but not origin.
I asked for support, they tell me to ask the retail store for refund.

Sorry, I haven't got the link to the actual thread. All I was given was this picture and it was a few months old when I got it, I think.

I'm pretty sure they have a trade history, don't they? And that screenshot shows who did hack it. I'd have thought they could easily undo the trade.

You can check no one's trade history other than your own.
That's sad.

Have no idea how this can happen if you verify your E-Mail adress.

He could have used steam guard... wait, did he hack your email too?
Comment has been collapsed.
If you uses the same password everywhere, it should be anything. Any compromised website with your login/pass/mail would allow the hacker to log in your e-mail, then have access to everything. Including steam.
That's why everyone should uses different password on every websites/software. Either by using a password manager (http://keepass.info/), or by adding something easy to remember to a known password (e.g.: your password is blabliblou, then you add ST att the end for steam, GM for gmail, etc).

BTW do you know what thread the hacker was talking about?
Comment has been collapsed.
yes ; he is trying to sell my valuable tf2 items (sold already) and now he is trying to scam people(suppose that) but i create threads every known tf2 trade site one of them "sop" and he get angry when he cant trade , so he is treating with vac ban
Comment has been collapsed.
Ignore it. If you've been hacked, Valve won't let a VAC ban stick. He's just trying to play you, hoping you're ignorant enough about its workings to do what he wants.

dude you are misleading him , valve wont revers vac ban for hacked accounts , its final he will get his account but the vac ban wont go away watch it

hope you wont get vac banned if you do its permanent read what all can be done when a account is hacked [https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2347-QDFN-4366]

Ok. We can understand his trading activity from the backpack examiner; under "historical data".
There has been alot of activity today:
"Wed, 18 Jan 12 00:12:21 -0600
Wed, 18 Jan 12 01:43:06 -0600
Wed, 18 Jan 12 03:19:10 -0600
Wed, 18 Jan 12 04:24:16 -0600
Wed, 18 Jan 12 05:28:21 -0600"
From that we can backtrack some trading threads from the websites SourceOP and forums.steampowered.com

shit !! i thought he forgot he stole my other tf2 items aswell...
anyway can we see FIRST trade ?
also what is that gmt ? im on gmt +2 and i exatly closed steam somewhere between 12:40 and 1:00 pm

When was the last time you connected to steam? You said that you noticed today that he hacked into your account but I should have an estimate of when he might've actually hacked your account.

I have a question to people who are better than me with Backpack Examiner.
Can you actually make a search to find an exact match of the dates when ahatf's backpack got modified? This way we might find the account of the hacker that brought all the goodies to his backpack so he could trade them through his account on other websites.
Someone help me with this, please.

Well, you can say that your account got hacked between yesterday and today and that you have an image proving of a person threatening you to stay silent or he would VAC ban you. (you explain to them that the hacker was using your account to chat with you, while you were using a friend's account)
Then you link them to your profile backpack that shows the recent activity while you got hacked.
Then you explain that you did some back-tracking and found out that some recent items that the hacker traded were all connected to the user Kornel, who happened to change his account to private just recently.
This recent change from public to private may indicate a suspicious behaviour.
============
pretty much this.
Comment has been collapsed.
I managed to check those three items and noticed that they all traced back to Kornel. I didn't go on because that was enough of a coincidence for me.
I honestly have no clue what you had before because I didn't dig through your entire backpack [you had ALOT of stuff :) ]. It's up to you to decide if you'll be more specific or not to STEAM support
Comment has been collapsed.
lol, how do I know? It's your backpack not mine XD.
Judging from the date of the picture it says "January 18, 2012" as the date your account acquired those hats.
In that period of time I'm guessing that the hacker was using your account to trade with Kornel (who might be the hacker's true account?).
Comment has been collapsed.
As thejadefalcon said before, if you prove that you've been hacked (which you have) STEAM will remove any possible ban you received because of the hacker's fault.
"VAC bans don't mean shit if you've been hacked. It's not going to affect the account owner and Steam can reverse that when you get your account back. [...]" -thejadefalcon
Comment has been collapsed.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY FALSE
VAC bans are permanent. They are never reversed. You are always responsible for any activity on your account. If the hacker triggers a VAC ban then you are VAC banned on that game (or all source games if it was TF2/CS:S
VAC bans are only ever reversed if Valve makes a mistake.
TF2 items will also be unlikley to be returned since the trades themselves were legitimately done from the account. Items are only returned when you trade for something and it is later revoked because it was purchased fraudulently.
Also VAC ban in TF2 automatically triggers the dumping of you inventory.

Personally I've never heard of such a thing happening. It would be too easy to just 'pretend' to be hacked then reclaim all the items back you traded. Which is the same idea why VAC bans are permanent since you could easily 'pretend' to be hacked then cheat, get banned, whine about it, then get unbanned.
Given this exploitable loophole, I severely doubt they will return your TF2 items, and also given the lack of any historical data to support this. I've been on the Steam forums and specifically ones where people get hacked ask for help. I've never heard of TF2 items being returned, except in the specific scenario where you trade for a game, and the game gets revoked because of a chargeback from the original owner.
You might be right that they will give you your items back, but I'm just cautioning you that it's not a 'given'. Temper your enthusiasm accordingly. Also Steam Support (Which you should have contacted already) might not get back to you for 2-3 days so don't expect anything to happen anytime soon.
Comment has been collapsed.
If he sent a ticket to support about being hacked before any VAC bans happen then they have good reason to believe him.
ahatf, I sincerely hope that you contacted support right away.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's good. I hope you manage to sort this out soon - it's a horrible situation to be in.
If you haven't done so already, it's a good idea to change the password and secret questions for your email account. Because SteamGuard does a good job of keeping hijackers away, someone who successfully hijacked your Steam account is almost certain to have already compromised your email beforehand (unless you had SteamGuard disabled all along).
edit: Ah, I see from another of your replies that you did this already.
Comment has been collapsed.
Steam doesn't remove VAC bans, even if you didn't cheat. If you got hacked and you get a VAC ban, you're screwed.
