I'm a 19 years old guy, who play a lot of "hardcore" games, but I really love HO games, I can pass about 10-15 hours on it, and I want to earn all the achievements every time, the "Nightmares from the Deep" serie would be my favorite HO games.
I find those type of games calming and some of the puzzles are actually pretty hard.

I never played any such games... until 2014. Now I have behind me Dracula: Love Kills , Midnight Mysteries: The Edgar Allan Poe Conspiracy, Midnight Mysteries Salem Witch Trials, Midnight Mysteries 3: Devil on the Mississippi, Midnight Mysteries 4: Haunted Houdini, SEASON OF MYSTERY: The Cherry Blossom Murders, and Infected: The Twin Vaccine, which is exactly 7 Hidden Object Adventure Puzzle Games or whatever they are called.
I'm 31 years old and have been part of the "PC master race" since the nineties (before that, NES and Atari 2600). The reason I started playing them - got them in a bundle and wanted to clear backlog... and did not have time for full length games", but then I really liked that casual atmosphere and thought I might even make one, so instead of stopping I bought more...

Interesting thread. I haven't played any HO game yet, but I'd like to see what it's all about. I have 3 games from bundles which are supposed to be representative of the genre and good:
Which one would you HO gamers suggest that I play first?

Any HOG by Artifex Mundi is a winner for me. They look good, sound good, and often include just enough puzzle elements to at least remind me of some of the 90's era graphic adventures. I own 16 of their 18 games on Steam, only missing one that isn't a HOG and one I hadn't seen before (Mind Snares: Alice's Journey). And to top it off, of those 17 HOGs, 17 have cards.

There may come a time in your life where all you want is a simple, pretty, not particularly challenging diversion (with trading cards and easy achievements) to provide a diversion from your day that contains none of the above.
That said, I only discovered them a few months ago, and I've only played a few. card farming doesn't count, right?
But yes, there's the feeling while you're playing it that they were designed for 11-year-old girls. Not that there's anything wrong with 11-year-old girls, but I'm not one of them. :p

Okay... I will freely admit that I am over 25 (not a housewife though I am a single parent) and I love playing HOGs especially the ones by Blue Tea Games (not available on Steam though) not just because I can play them with my kid but because the story is interesting and the art is beautiful and some of the puzzles are really tough. Macabre Mysteries: Curse of the Nightingale Theater is my favorite (technically FROG -fragmented object game) but I love almost all their games with the exception of Enchantia. Not all HOGs are simply hidden objects some actually have interesting stories wrapped around the puzzles and hidden objects. If you decide to give them a try, the best ones are by Blue Tea Games, Artifex Mundi, and the Drawn series by Big Fish Studios.

My brother (age 14) likes these games a lot, but he likes a wide range of genres. They look interesting but I haven't tried on myself though I do plan on play those which I own already. I like the concept though; I was really into I Spy books growing up so I figure I will like these as well.
Variety is the spice of life! Never place limits on yourself, for you'll never know when you'll be surprised :D.

I play them once in a while and there was a time when I greatly enjoyed them. They're fairly easy, yet keeping you busy, they're beautifully done, some (admittedly few) even have an interesting story, and generally nicely flow. Nothing wrong with playing HOGs.
And although I'm over 25 and female I am not the housewide type of person ;P
EDIT: Just realized this thread is ages old. Why was it necro'ed?

I love them, I fall into the category of women of 25+ (not a housewife though) and yet, give me the choice between Doom or the latest Artifex Mundi and I will choose Doom without hesitation.
Hidden Objects games today tends to be more point-&-click by taking stuff into an inventory, combining them, speaking with people and puzzles with some HO scenes.

I played 2-3 of them. Some have a good story, it's like reading a light book :)

Ok.. as this thread is resurrected, why not writing something.
I did not like them in the past, then I got some in bundles, gave some away....tried the one or another myself.....and now I sometimes like this kind of game. Also some of them are surprisingly well done.
(oh the demographic part: male not young anymore (really not), self-employed, married, one child, car-collector, big garden, wine and beer-drinker)
