Why should you care? Make the giveaway and let them try to burn you. Throw water at them.

The only valid point for the frowning I guess. People can utilize the blacklisting tool in that case, i guess that way they'll ensure they are not giving to any such person they personally dislike.

Meh, people can be really obnoxious. Ignore them. I see no reason why someone should be looked down on because they are generous enough to give away some games for people in their own region. Sometimes the restriction can't be helped.

Yes, if im buying copies from steam due to regional pricing I'm forced with region restriction.
It's alright if I'm buying bundles or some great deal that pops up on other websites, but with steam It can't be helped.

I'm in the EU, and we tend to get the short end of the stick quite a bit lol.

I came back to using steam, SG etc after a hiatus of 6 years, and the removal of gifts in inventory came as one of the biggest shocker to me. Even the regional pricing has been introduced recently in my country which was earlier only $ and used to buy games along with the extra taxes for conversion rates, but was still okay with it. Maybe if steam had introduced a system where you could pay some extra money on order to gift games to friends in other area (additional surcharge in form of percentage of game price in the region), it will be more of a happy situation for everyone.
I respect your generosity, along with everyone else who makes an effort and keeps this site running and I try to do the same even if not upto the extent of having a 1:1 ratio

I really don't like region restricted giveaways. But more and more frequently the games I want to give away (either bought or bundle left overs) come with region locked keys. And you get region-locked keys no matter where you buy.
So then I have 3 options:
Just don't create giveaways at all (boo! hiss!).
Create giveaway for region-locked keys but don't region restrict the GA. And then deal with the fallout when the winner can't redeem the key, which isn't worth the disappointment and headaches that causes.
Create giveaways with region restrictions based on the region locks, cause minor annoyance for some people because they can't enter, maybe get blacklisted over it once or twice because of it too, but make sure the key ends up with someone who can use it and will hopefully play and enjoy the game.
And I'll choose option 3.
Edit:
I should mention that yes, I'm in the European region. And the keys I can get nowadays are either ROW, or they lock out Latin America & RU/CIS. The latter is almost guaranteed if the game's from one of the bigger publishers.
Comment has been collapsed.
They don't actually lock them out but Humble just puts that footnote because these regions get their own region locked copies (or sometimes don't get anything at all). You can check the threads made here by sensualshakti to see if a certain bundle game is really RoW or not. A most recent example would be Project Cars 2: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/EN4rg/humble-bundle-january-2019-monthly-bundle-incl-wizard-of-legend-just-cause-3-proj-cars-2
Us Asians cannot get the key and Humble even states on everyone else's version of it that it's restricted in our countries... but it really isn't. It's global. And I'm sad whenever I see a giveaway for it that blocks us so because the gifters don't know any better and Humble sucks at giving true information.

No 3 is the best option I read as well in your comment xd
I had a bad experience recently due to my lack of knowledge in which I had to pay around 10$ more than what it would have costed me due to option no 2 that u mentioned (actually I was not aware about the region restriction)

As it's already been pointed out, someone who only does region restricted GA's but win mostly non-restricted games might be frowned upon. I can see why and at the same time, there's a part of me that doesn't care. But at the end of the day, you do what you want. This might yield you some blacklist spots but even so, that's nothing to be upset about. I did buy some games from HB/Fanatical because of the crappy Steam gifting policy that focuses on regions... but I do understand that people would rather choose to pay less for their GA's. At least you're trying to make some people happy by giving away games? Which is better than not contributing at all.
Comment has been collapsed.
As a person in a region that always gets the middlefinger (Europe), I say, at least you are making giveaways and making people happy. But yeah, I would love to enter that giveaway.

I know, I felt about making a good away region restricted and not giving everyone a chance but then I have to make a balance between being generous and my pocket. I'm happy for your gesture though. Thanks

With your level of technology I wonder why you play games at all? Go around in your fancy suits, tame wild animals and enjoy 😜

Not heard of people "burning" others , blacklisting however can happen.
Basically region-locked games imply you bought them cheap, and you're putting a restriction on who can enter.
I am one of those people who generally only does public giveaways, with the only restriction being level - to hopefully reward those who are also giving but I'll admit I blacklist winners of my giveaways who mainly only do group/region-restricted/whitelist-only giveaways.
People hate me for it, and it may be pointless, but it's not like they lost out on winning something from me in the first place, right?
The only other people I blacklist are people who are complete jerks in the forums - I've also been blacklisted for the same reason :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Gotta say, always been rather curious why you had me blacklisted. Reading the reasons you have... has gotten me even more curious why I'm on yours. I don't recall having won a game from you so I suppose the only other reason would be me being a complete jerk in the forums :(
Comment has been collapsed.
Neither do I. It was kinda recent, so I'm wondering what it was myself.
I did early in the year add a whole load of people to my blacklist for unknown reasons (Just because, seems to be the basic, but illogical reason) , yours is too recent to have been without a reason. You're not the sort of person who says thanks in every entered giveaway either (another of my pet peeves). Anyway, I've whitelisted you, feel free to check out my giveaway ;)

I understand your point, and I agree more or less. The blacklist is a good tool to filter out people and ensure that you don't see them and they don't enter anything you are contributing. I haven't blacklisted people since I am not irked easily but I'll welcome people if they do so. This site has free chances at games, and I always try to remember that, and what that implies for me is, that people are generous and providing me a shot at these free games and if some individual has blacklisted me it's alryt because all it does is reduce few of these shots and not like a ban or something from the website. 😊

Shall I rename the thread to crazy whitelising reasons
Comment has been collapsed.
don't worry, you will probably never be able to enter a GA by people saying that, because they either make all group giveaways or restrict them with sgtools filters.
so what they are doing in "retaliation" is even worse than a region locked giveaway (selfish and petty), which is usually the result of someone living in a country with regional pricing.
Comment has been collapsed.
region restricted giveaways give better chances to win if they live in there. I'd prefer to roll for something nice with 150 entries than some recent expensive game with 5000 entries.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, the smaller entry pool would be nice - but imagine if we all lived in region restricted countries and steam keys didn't activate out of the country they were bought in? All those nice bundle sites we get games from we wouldn't be able to buy from, let alone enter the giveaways from such.
Comment has been collapsed.
There was a thread sometime ago where a bunch of people revealed reasons why they'd blacklist someone.
Some were for asinine or petty reasons. Hell, a few said if someone won one of their GA they'd blacklist them to "weed out" past winners.
So literally someone on this site will blacklist you at some point for some random reason.
If you want to to do all your GAs as level specific region locked then that's your prerogative. It's that rustles anyone jimmies that's their problem. Fuck em.

There are people here from the U.S. that restrict their giveaways to U.S. people only and I'm sure there are others doing the same in their respective countries even though they don't need to because of regional restrictions. I wouldn't worry about it. You are doing giveaways and that's what counts.

Thabks for the appreciation, I believe we all can have that outlook.

Zen point of view. I like that 🤔
The subtle art of not giving a fuck you say? 😋

I just don't give a crap about what anyone thinks on the forums anymore about what they perceive to be the proper etiquette for anything because no one follows any code that's the same other than the basic and sometimes vague site rules.
I'm annoyed that more people don't follow this approach!
There was an episode of Black Mirror Nosedive S03E01 that was all about people rating each other socially. I won't say much else more because the story is excellent, but you really learn to appreciate things more when you don't take it all too seriously and just enjoy the show!
Even though my 🍁 is meaningless, you can jump on board!

Amazing episode indeed. Perhaps one of the most hard hitting for me.. We are just too concerned with everyone and specially there perception of us without realizing, that actually they are doing the same thing 😂 Everyone's tensed

It becomes pretty fascinating when you become aware of all these things too. I much prefer going through life as an observer rather than participate mostly. Humans are a crazy bunch.
A History of Me and Be Right Back got me the most. HOM hit home pretty hard, and BRB, though I've never actually experienced any significant loss very close to myself just about had me in tears, and then just as much confusion. The entire series is amazing, but I can only watch an episode or two before my brain starts overloading. Breathtaking is a good word to describe the show...
Just watched Shut Up and Dance (S03E03?).... just, wow. I want to plough through the rest of them as fast as I can just to absorb all of the awesome but I don't want the show to end either..

Thank you for mentioning those shows. I've marked the shows and will watch them subsequently.
I have also seen shut up and dance, it's amazing show.

Not yet. need to watch it soon, i have marked it on netflix :)

It is mostly because you could often see that people who levelled up using region-restricted games (way above 80% region-restricted) "somehow" always ended up with a 70%+ region-free win record. Around two years ago, there was essentially an entire subsection of SteamGifts you could have renamed SG RU, made up almost exclusively by level 5+ users like this.
Now, it is a lot more evenly spread, mostly thanks to Steam also supporting region-specific keys. Heck, it is impossible to make giveaways for some games for WW. Capcom and Deep Silver are especially notorious for this.
Comment has been collapsed.
I can totally understand that, but my point is this website is more about giving rather than thinking about win ratios. So if people are giving out stuff, I guess it should be okay.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'd rather worry about play ratios. Hundreds of thousands of gifted games were never played here. Ever since the card drop restrictions on new titles were applied, the percentage of "played" games among the user base has dropped from almost 60% to (checks the stats) 43%, and it is gradually decreasing.

Who cares if someone has problem with your giveaway? You give something for free away, if anyone has problem with it, than put them in blacklist (or not if you don't want to even bother with it) and be happy. Yep, in some case your gift if lower priced if you buy it for some region only, and, who cares. Heck, the site already don't list you region locked stuff outside your position, so you not even now about those locked giveaways, unless search for them.
Comment has been collapsed.
I have a bit high region restricted ga but it's because it appears in the bundle notes before I buy, which countries can't activate.
Comment has been collapsed.
You see this: :( This is me frowning at you right now! I'm frowning because I could not enter your awesome giveaways because I do not live in your region. What are you going to do about it, huh?
If you answered that you will relocate to North America and continue making awesome giveaways, you chose correctly. :)

I was chatting on discord and I heard that there is a section in the community who burn you for region restricted giveaway.
I was pretty surprised to hear it as all in all its the general notion of giving away that still stands. So what if the game is cheaper in my region and I want to give it away. I (anyone) have difficulties buying things on steam with all the local currency and don't want to go through GOG, Humble bundle store etc and all the extra money spent on conversion.
So if you really feel so bad about it, maybe its better to steer clear and not have bad feelings about a user.
