Is there a meme mocking Luddites? Because that would be a good response to this.

America needs to Move their Asses.
We, Europe, demonstrated against ACTA like crazy shit. We even gained support from a Party which is represented in our 'Bundestag'.
Go, rush the Streets, OccupyWhatever, but do something for your, our Internet!

Wait, I could swear Obama threatened to VETO this, should it ever pass? That's horrible!

Didn't he say the same about the NDAA? Then signed it.

I would not take his veto threats super seriously.

No, the executive office just said they would think about a veto..

However, for the reasons stated herein, if H.R. 3523 were presented to the President, his senior advisors would recommend that he veto the bill.

It is a well known fact that a human being could never kill a human being - be it with hands, guns, or a baseball bat.

No, to kill someone, you need to use the Internet.

/sarcasm.

From what I heard from my friend, the US government is freaking rich, wasting money on these shit is merely nothing.

In this case wasting money is the tip of the iceberg. Those fools keep renaming their barf and trying to pass it time and time again, everytime making it even worse, somehow.

The median age (that means half are older, half are younger) of US Senators is almost 63 years. Right now, 4 are in their 80s (seriously) and 9 are in their 40s. Most of them (37) are in their 60s. The oldest one was born in 1924. I'm pretty sure he didn't even have electricity in his youth (hey, he was in New Jersey /joke). Or, if anything, he didn't have running water. Or indoor bathrooms. You name it.

These guys don't know anything about the Internet. And, sure, it's likely some of them know a few things - I do know a 70 years old man who regularly sends emails and read online newspapers, but that's pretty much it. But a Senator works all day, and when you've got to meet about a handful of law every week, you don't have time to educate yourself about each and every one of them.

So basically, to them it's the big scary thing of the century where there's no law. It'd be like me telling you about Dihydrogen Monoxide: it can cause death in a few minutes if inhaled, you can overdose on it pretty easily, if you don't know how to handle it with care you could suffocate...

By the way, that's plain water. See? The citizens are asking these guys to take action on things they don't know anything about. A way to prevent that is to give more power to independent organisms who'd study what the Senate wants and make a report on it. Or, the US could just switch to a true democracy (right now it's a Republic) and start letting the people vote on every law.

Edit: who's the better man now? ;)

passed the House, but still has to go through the Senate... and then needs to grace the desk of our dear beloved El Presidente before it becomes law..

still a ways to go on this one.. and that just means more time for it to get even uglier in its specifics.

The US want to save our lives again? I thought, after all these failures (Kim Schmitz may not extradited to US, SOPA, PIPA, ACTA,...) they beginn to stop that shit...
And there are people, who wonder, why the Pirateparty will get >10% at the elections here.
Good, that the US have that great 2-party-system -_-
