"dvorak" Sounds... Weird. The 'D' is miles away from the 'O', are we talking English keyboard here?

Never hear of an dvorak layout, but im in the "same" situation...but for me it is qwerty>qwertz xD...good that you can change the controls in mostly all games...
Some years ago i only played with the arrow keys(left hander, was better for me)...you can change the controls for near all games, lol...

You don't have to change your Windows language o_O Control pannel->Region and Language(use large/small icons)->Keyboards and Language->Chose what you need. That doesn't change Windows languages... Or if you have the Language bar enabled you can do it from that directly

If a game doesn't allow rebinding that's horribly wasteful except for the smallest of indies and discriminative to the disabled gamers.

Thay do have an effect. The game says press "Z" to jump. I'm pressing "Z" but nothing is happening. I press "Y" and I jump. In some early games that used Z + X keys and didnt allow the user to redefine controls were unplayable on a qwertz keyboard because of the awkvard Z/Y placement.
"Do you really want to quit? (press Y)" -> I had to press Z -.-"

for example its cyrillic keyboard where y is z and z is y example pic

When you switch language to Serbian-Latin then the Y becomes Z, but the letter Z (on standard QWERTY keysets it's bottom left) becomes some symbol (not sure which one, I forgot). So it's done pretty much for conveniece of people who prefer to type in Serbo-Croatian.
ps in most cases if your system language is English, the QWERTZ keyboard acts like a regular QWERTY

Eastern Europe isn't really a target market for game devs though. They aim it at North America/Western Europe and sell in Eastern Europe because they want extra money.
But yeah, it's really easy to include rebinding so idk why some devs don't.

uhm, same reason they dont make games on linux (obviously some do) because some obscenely large number of people use windows, and not linux. (you know like me, GO WINDOWS! :D)
majority rules

I don't see why you are complaining that developers let you rebind keys... Bind them anyway you like, it literally takes 30 seconds. What I don't understand is why some developers don't bother to let users rebind keys, that's just lazy coding (or rather porting) and a big middle finger to the end user.

wasd doesn't make ANY sense on dvorak. i've been remapping to the number pad for movement since before i taught myself dvorak so i always remap everything anyway. every now and then i see something that has ,aoe in place of wasd and i cheer for them a little.

So you are enough of a "special-training" user to use dvorak, but without enough of special training to switch it in the OS? Just install two keyboard layouts and switch between them, where's the problem in that? If you don't feel like doing it manually every time (takes one Alt+Shift in my case), write a script for running games & switching layouts. If you are too confused because of the kay captions, buy/make some stickers.

When i can i use alt + shift to switch between layouts, the problem is that it doesn't work in all the games and that in online games where you can chat with other players, i have no time to look for the keys(on the qwerty layout) and write, i have to be fast.

Hmm? I don't recall any game that would "bypass" the OS settings. Have you tried to have the qwerty layout as the only available layout while playing such games? Perhaps the problem is that the OS simply launches the games with the wrong layout, and then the game prevents you from switching. If you launch it with the correct layout from the start, it could work.
Also, in that case, lots of stickers, and better hand-eye coordination. ;-) Or voice chat.

Because we don't play games on typewriters, the reason dvorknerd exists.

Qwerty is far older than dvorak and yes both were made for typewriters.

We get it, Dvork makes your WPM go from 70 to 75 after spending 10 hours training yourself on it. You have a more efficient system, congrats.
More efficient doesn't mean better though. Just like Linux, one of the issues is support. A strong majority uses a qwerty/z setup, and yes it's because of the typewriter's legacy. However, the improvement is minimal in switching, and it takes forever to retrain yourself. I'm sure that your experience was that you're able to jump up 30 WPM and it only took 20 minutes, but your anecdote is the exception, not the rule.

Actually DVORAK exists because we don't use typewriter and so don't need to worry about key wear. QWERTY exists to prevent wear and is horribly inefficient for that reason.

Ok i use cyrillic keyboard and from time to time i need to write in serbian latin, or serbian cyrillic language and when i code something i need to write in english so there is very easy solution for keyboard language differences. In keyboard preferences just add your languages and with simple ALT+SHIFT button you can change language easy so if you know en US keys on keyboard just use switch option and you can play your game without changing any bindings. Language shifting is only binded to one program so if you shift language in game you will still use default language in other programs. Simple as that.

..Lemme put my old pants on.. Back in my day all games defaulted to the numpad or arrow keys. That was until "Thresh" headed the wasd revolution during Quake 1. Then games started defaulting to wasd with the mouse for mouselook. My hip hurts!!

Your comments are by far the most enlightening ones. Weren't you the one who said that books were useless because we had movies instead?

I know that, my question was if there's a special country where it's found.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's not used in a specific country, it's just a layout choice. The problem is that there are so many qwerty's only 'cause too many people would lose too much money with a change of layout. So despite the efficiency of the dvorak, most thought it wasn't worth use it.

Call me whatever you like (or don't), but I've never heard of dvorak before. QWERTY has really been accepted long time ago as a standard, therefore I do not see need for a change - if you wanna change it, then you're allowed to do so in menu options.

I use the dvorak layout and in almost every game i have to re-bind the keys. Not all the games have this problem for example recently i tried the zero gear demo and i didn't have to fix the keys. What do you think about it, why game developers don't think to make commands that fit everyone?
