I just enter the giveaways which favor my wishlist. No other. That's why I hardly believe I will win something :P)

If a game catches my interest, I'll research it as if I were going to purchase it myself. If I would buy it (in some alternate, not in college and surgery debt universe), then I will enter the giveaway. Otherwise I try and stick to games I've wanted for a while.
Though, if I made a giveaway I wouldn't really care about any of that as long as the winner gets at least a little bit of happiness out of the whole thing. Just the act of winning something can brighten someone's day. I really hope I can get a chance to do that soon.

Most of the time spent entering a giveaway is spent looking at the gifters Steamgifts and Steam profile to try and judge whether it's a genuine giveaway or not :) I make a point not to call them out on the giveaway, however, and always try to give the benefit of the doubt.

I have 3 key criteria for a game before I enter a giveaway for it.
1)Do I have a friend that plays/recommends it?
2)Is it a game that I already know I really want?
3)Is it DLC that I otherwise would be unlikely buy?
If any of these 3 are met then I'll usually enter (after looking through the other giveaways to make sure there isn't something else I would rather enter of course).

Well, 1st I look for a game that I like, then check the givers rep. Then enter and comment w/ a thanks or something longer. Pray to gaming gods that randomization chooses me. Sacrifice a few chickens/goat for the even more powerful gaming gods. Hahah.

A wise choice of action. All should do their best to appease the Random Number Generator gods. Although, I hear they prefer gifts of calculators and dice over sacrificial animals.

only enter for games i don't own and actually do want to play and beat but can't afford. seems like a lot of people just join every single giveaway just to win anything, and that kills the odds for everyone else. also, it's nice to comment and thank the giver.

Commenting 'Thanks' is actually in the rules of the site, which is why I didn't include it myself.

I usually enter giveaways that are on my wishlist and hope I win.

Games, that I've been waiting incredibly patient for, no matter the price I will wait for that opportunity to arise, then I shall take it from the sky. And also games that are not the usual $5 or $10 but of higher games in the $40 or $50 or $60 and in some cases games that were lowered from that.
Give a poem to the author who has created the giveaway, usually praising them, honoring them, no sarcasm, and my reason for entering.
I even friend the person and start saying " Thank you so much" and my reasons for that. :P

Not official rules of course (Saying Thank you, etc are all official rules!), because you should be following those, but what's the Etiquette you tend to follow when entering for games?
Mine is that I only enter games I think I'll actually play for some sort of determinate amount of time. For example, Sure, I'd like to try Amnesia : TDD, but I'd probably play it for 15 minutes before I chickened out and never returned to it again, so I don't enter for it in favor of giving more chances to someone who actually will.
