This years winter sale compared to last years better or worse?
It's getting worse every year. I feel like global warming and Steam are connected in some way.

I'm made of ice and I breath freezing blizzards... "You are the cause of global warming"...
Not only do I help keep the world cool like a beer in the freezer, I also wouldn't THINK of supporting global warming. Just think how horrible it would feel if you were made of ice but walking through a desert? ;_;

i am really disapointed about the daily deals leaving.

Shelled around 40 euro so the discounts were, as usual, pretty good.
As an event though, it's absolutely terrible. I remember the auctions last year, the achievements in games in 2011, this year nothing except a crappy comic. It's like they didn't even try to do something and just went "buy games and gtfo". Unless those Reddit rumors are founded and they're somehow planning to unveil HL3 or something, but even if that were true, that's a pretty bad way to do it.

I feel like most of the sale discounts really haven't changed, but I don't like the removal of flash/daily sales for two reasons.
The flash/daily sales brought me a lot of joy. I was excited every day to log on to see what offers they sprinkled extra sugar on.
A lot of publishers are pulling shady shit. (UBISOFT) A lot of them are selling their games at a lower discount at the start of a sale, and then discount it even further later down the sale. Even Fallout 4 received the same treatment (Full price since the beginning of the sale until like 2 days ago it received a 17% discount) So really, you could miss a lot of better deals this sale and get severely ripped off if you don't buy at the right time.

I felt like the sales were a little better than last year. (or maybe it's just because some of the games I wanted had been out for so long they were finally on sale...) I didn't see many sales which were lower than any sale ever...
And this sale is boring, nothing fun about it. I miss when they went all out, like the sale with the prizes (free games or coupons) for playing and getting achievements in certain games. This was back when they announced they would give out first 10 wishlist games to a few lucky people... Not sure if they will ever put in this much effort again. It would be interesting to see the steam profit compared to the types of sale they had and if the whizzbangs made any difference.

Certainly worse than last year. Purchased only one wishlisted so far by selling cards as unemployment doesn't leave me many options ;)
On the other hand, Origin had some pretty big sales. 60% for BF4 for example was an amazing chance to get it!

Seriously, i hated flash deals.
I do loved the one and main thing about then tought: the price.
But the whole 'keep waiting', guessing and in the end not grabing all the best deals or making bad choices ('damn! i could had got those 2 instead of this one!')? No, hated it.
This time around i could plan my self-limited budget in my own pace; I actually browsed better, instead of frantically. The bad side being the prices, of course.

yeah.... much better that now everyone have worse deals

+1. I didn't like having to constantly check every few hours for possible deals. It made the sale a chore in the end. Glad they did away with them.

Are you aware that now you are getting a game at the lowest possible discount, while with the daily discount system you had a chance for a much better price?
I understand that you didn't like checking all of the time for this, but now the only difference is instead of missing the chance, you don't have a chance for a better price.

In the last couple of sales under the old system, those special deals were less impressive, so I don't think we're missing out as much as people seem to think. I think what we are seeing today is the result of the natural death of flash sales and community votes ... not because they weren't popular with consumers, rather because developers and publishers weren't participating enough.

I've got your point and I cannot disagree with this, those flash sales weren't that much impressive in most cases, also to me it seemed like a trick to keep people checking daily, thus more sales and profit. But on the other half, through these daily flash sales I bought some wishlisted games that I wouldn't have bought for their "normal" discount, which I have enjoyed.

I wasn't on Steam during last winter sale, but I don't like daily deals, that's for sure. I like to plan my budget and use it in the most rational way. And for me prices weren't bad. Games from top of my wishlist were discounted more that I thought they'll be, so I'm happy. I bought more that I expected for the same amount of money.

I don't like it! No flash/daily sales, boring crappy comic, some games are not in sale from my wishlist and others are still too expensive or have weak discount, especially various DLC, and selling my trading cards do not go according to plan because no mini game = less crafting = no special items = boring!

Wasn't anticipating buying much, but what irked me was that using Enhanced Steam for price history is that many games I hoped to pick up were cheaper during last year's Christmas sale. Probably because they were offered as flash sales that don't exist anymore.
Oh well. It's not like I don't have a backlog to work on anyway.

I bought only one game (the last episode of 12 Labours of Hercules), and not even because of the sale but because, for some strange reason, the publisher decided to release it during the sale event. Last year at least I snagged a few HOGs on the auction.

why are people getting so greedy... If you dont like the amount of %, pay fully price then! or dont buy it and use desura, uplay or origin instead!

well, i see everyone complaining about prices... not events

it sucks in so many levels that I can't really show my opinion with lovely words. almost all deals had better price last sale.

Not bad sales but more or less the same as others for me and this time i've spend more money.

Looking at the front page, it would seem like the prices on those game shown there match roughly what you would expect them to be at on a daily deal or flash sale. This leads me to believe that the perceived "crappiness" of the sale is more psychological than anything else. You don't get the scarcity mentality thing going, and thus you're better at evaluating if you actually want the games on sale. I suspect that the changes made are bad for steam, but good for the end user, as we're less likely to just throw money at steam due to a fear of losing out.

I am actually a little disappointed again last year I saw a lot of good deals this year it seems all these are the same deals I pretty much saw at the start of the year or in july. The bundles also are pretty bland lately with most games seeming to be the same just in a different mix I would rather bump it up a couple dollars and see a little more variety. But at the very least that steam noir story they are having is pretty good the rest I am not impressed thoughts?
