So, I won this giveaway, but forgot to check if I don't already own it before entering. It let me enter because the game was removed from the store. Usually in this situation I'd ask for them to reroll, but I was the only entry. I wrote comment on the GA and they told me to just keep the key. After that I asked if they could delete the GA instead, but they didn't respond so far. It's been 4 days since then. I really don't know what to do. Should I just mark it as "Not Received"?

Marking as "not received" hurts the giveaway creator, and in this case, for something they had nothing to do with (an entrant already owning the game). Since you already have the game, marking it as "received" won't hurt you, and if nobody suggests anything better, you could always create another giveaway using the same key.

This is not true.

Marking "Not Received" will not hurt anyone, and marking a gift as "Received" that you did not activate can lead to suspension.

Additionally, regifting a key you won is explicitly against the rules.

If I win a game, can I regift, trade, sell, or remove it from my Steam account?

According to our guidelines, no, all games you win must remain activated and redeemed on the Steam account you used during registration. Failure to activate games you have received will result in a suspension.

Wait, I thought marking "Not Received" meant the giveaway creator loses a giveaway slot, meaning they can't make as many giveaways at once.

Yes, that's true, but I would not consider that 'hurting' the creator. They will not be suspended for it, nor will their account be held in a negative status (unless there are excessive instances of this happening).

(unless there are excessive instances of this happening).

Does that actually happen? I mean, since people can simply ask winners if they agree to have the GA deleted, I find it hard to believe that red marks are piling up on some profiles. Unless they are from users who don't check the forum and have no idea that asking for deletion is allowed.

I seen profiles with up to 22 not sended games and not with 300+ GAs made or something like that.

Yeah, asking for deletion is... allowed, but the winner doesn't actually have to agree to a deletion.

(I kinda have to wonder how often that even comes into play. Honestly, I feel like people putting that on all their giveaways is a bit excessive- if some accident happens, people are generally nice enough to agree to a deletion regardless of what the description says... people putting that in all their descriptions makes it sound like they expect an accident to happen, regardless of their intentions. Which ironically would make me less willing to cooperate, depending on the person.)

I don't get Gaffi.
The creator gave a key, a correct one. It's not his fault that the person that won, already has a the game.
Why not just mark as "received" since the creator gave the right key to the winner, and the winner has the game?
No point on "burning" a slot, or "hurt" the giveaway creator when he wants to enter giveaways protected by SG TOOLS that check those type of stuff.
Or am I missing something and understanding all wrong? Thanks for the help in advance!

Forget it!
Think i understand. The point is not about "having the game" and yes about "activating the specific key given"

It don't give sg tools checks for "deleted GAs" or "have undelivered GAs in his stats" ;o)

Of course is the gifter the one that don't made something wrong but loosing a GA slot isn't a big thing.
How many hundreds have you ?
Besides that the support help when someone is in problems and need, as example, 3 slots more.

Isn't there an SG Tools check for not "sent keys"? Though there could be :) Never used SG Tools.
If that check doesn't exist, yes, the problem of burning a slot, is minimal.
Was just trying to understand the dilemma better.

Yoko666's answer down there might be the best one. If he is sure the key is for that specific game. They both go on with their lives!

Then just delete the licence from your steam-account and register it again with a key that you have won..it's a win-win situation then..

I actually have not thought of that. Thanks for the suggestion

Reaching out to the giveaway creator is always the best course of action here. The final outcome will differ depending on circumstances, but you have done your part at this time. If they do not get back to you, then after 7 days you should mark the gift as "Not Received".

Generally, your verbal/written feedback to the creator will lead to a ticket, which we on the mod team will eventually process.

Edit:
This is also in the FAQ

What should I do if I win a game more than once, or if I win a game that I already purchased?

When this occurs, you should contact the giveaway creator and inform them you will not be accepting or redeeming the gift. Explain the situation, and ask the giveaway creator to request a new giveaway winner. During this process you should not mark the gift as "Received", or reveal the key if the option is available. This will help inform us that you are not accepting the gift, and it will prevent you from being suspended for not activating a gift you won. Once the ticket from the giveaway creator is approved for a new winner, the win will be removed from your profile.

If there is agreement, we'll generally allow deletion in this case.
