Great games though. Btw we have some quite similar gaming interests in library and wishlist :)

Half Life 2 was a wow moment for me :)

Same for me. Emotional aspects aside (I love STALKER) it is still the best FPS I've ever played.

Deus Ex is also up there among my all time faves; and completely agree on HL2's main menu screens. HL2 has such a cool and minimalist concept with a very well composed live shot of the current level as a backdrop. I don't know why more games didn't just copy the idea.

The latest DX: Mankind Divided uses a similar concept, but it's just the same level throughout (AFAIK):

Just Cause 3 has that as well, the menu shows Rico leaning on a car with the background being the game. When you start playing, Rico stands straight next to the car (which you can then drive). It's pretty cool since it's realtime within the game's engine and world.

Your description sounded interesting, so I googled for it and stumbled upon this ;)

Heh, yeah, I saw some even better stuff. In one video you'd see a battle in the background between rebels and the military, and suddenly a guy steals the car and jumps into the fight. :P

You really should, it is incredibly better than Human Revolution when it comes to storytelling and the conspiracy parts of it. Not to mention it has a deeper plot than "OMG AUGMENTATIONS ARE BAD, PEOPLE, AUGMENTATION AUGMENTATION AUGMENTATION".

It does tackle into theological, political and many other topics, while Human Revolution and Mankind Divided seem to have forgotten there's more to a realistic world than just fixating on a very limited subject.

Having a good memory and a large backlog I rarely replay a single player game, rewatch a movie or reread a book but I have to wonder what I missed in Deus Ex & Half-Life 2 - which I also consider a couple of the best games ever made (along with Mass Effect).

Have you considered writing a guide to the details of DE or HL2 or can you give us a quick TL;DR?

Hmm ... off the top of my head, Final Fantasy VII (playstation version) and Bioshock.
Baldur's Gate is right up there, though. :X

Oh I completely forgot about Final Fantasy VII. I've never played a game that completely consumed me like that game did. I stayed up all night and set alarms to wake up after a few hours of sleep to play it when I was a kid. I loved Barret. :D

Same here. Last time I played WOW was before the Cataclysm expansion, which didn't appeal to me at all. Burning Crusade was the best IMHO, as far as expansions go :D

Witcher 3!!!!

If I had to pick just one.....I would probably say The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. It was a pretty divisive game due to the motion controls, but the characters, story, and gameplay were just magic for me. I can't think of another game that I loved as much.

I'd say the Witcher 3 for a more recent game. Classics I would put up there are Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age Origins were both really good. I'm a Bioware nut. :3

I still play it with the DarkPlaces engine and the Rygel texturepack.

And a lot of good maps, even recent ones, to be found over at Quaddicted.

Quaddicted still exists, I am impressed. If I would not have so much good games in my backlog, I would install Quake right now.

As far as a moderately recent game, probably Deus Ex: Human Revolution...or maybe Path of Exile.

Path of Exile is really great game and probably the most complex (thus the best for theory crafters) H&S ARPG at the moment. +1

Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate 2, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VIII, Suikoden 2, The Witcher, The Witcher 3, Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 3, The Last Of Us, Gundam Breaker 3, Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky...and so much more...
It's impossible for me to pick just one.

I'm alluding you to watch a trailer where epic voice guy gets honest about the Tomb Raider franchise, including the first one that you mentioned. No they didn't have honest game trailers back then, I think they started in 2013 or 2011 dunno. I post because you seem to like it alot and it's not grief. Just watch it http://youtu.be/Qbxj6XQL87I

Referring someone who mentions their favorite games, in a thread in which they were invited to do so, to a site known for ridiculing games is just rude. I understand other people might not like my choice, think it's silly or crap; I feel that way about others' choices. But this is not the place to engage someone directly that way. I'm through dealing with you.
