So a few hrs ago someone commented on one of my trade threads... also added me on steam before I saw steamgifts, the account that added me on steam did not have account attached to steamgifts but effectively scammed me! Comment was erased so I'm putting 2 & 2 together and gonna say the person whom erased comment was REAL account of scammer..

Is there any mods nice enough to un-erase or inform me of which account commented then erased? Please and thankyoue

Should erase comment option be allowed?

Yes...
No, it hides low ballers and scammers

I don't see how the fact he erased the comment has any correlation with him scamming you.

That's not clever... just proves the point

correct.. it proves the point that comments being deleted have no correlation to a scam taking place.

people can also make an offer and change their mind or find a better deal 20seconds after they posted their comment-offer. ;)

Hence why should be "erased for reason" and person still being visible even if comment is not... or comment could just be greyed out due to no longer being valid. I just find the comment system dodgy!

At least on FB you get notifications that such and such commented even tho it's erased 🤔

I've done it before because I made a comment by mistake or because I commented twice (slow connection). You can't somehow justify you being scammed because he deleted his comment. When you get an offer that is too good to be true, generally it is actually too good to be true. :p

So the comment should be made invisible to everyone else.... nothing worse than seeing comment erased, there could be legit reasons like someone else got in first and so on but the fact remains scammers erase their comments so it's like they were never there! Such a simple tool being abused should be removed.

p.s the deal was fair and he went first... live and learn ;P

So how did you end getting scammed if he went first? :p

Revoked gift... or something along them lines, stupid me chose the send as friend to lower fees "I think" but even if I choose goods the funds would have already been moved and a never ending story would begin.

Ah, you went for the no fees option. Been there, fortunately the people I sent the money to didn't end up scamming me. I feel you man.

lol yea guess we all go there one time... as said tho if a true scammer the funds would have been moved never to be seen again and a PayPal dispute wouldn't change that.

Thanks for input ✌🏻

If you did it as a payment rather than friends and family, you could've still gotten a refund even if the money got moved. His PayPal balance would just go on negative and he would be force to cover the gap before using the account again.

Oh well know I know... cheers, I was thinking of staying away from PayPal but thats more reassuring

I have sometimes commented then deleted the comment if I changed my mind and the trader didn't seem to see my comment yet. The two things might not be related.

Ok so add "reason for comment deletion" or something so the person can have a fair idea, to me it's just rude how it is.... I know the 2 might not be connected but with info like account it would be easily dismissed

See that's good... I can see who sent it, I can check what offers you have and maybe send you a comment back, but the whole hide who even sent it is a little off putting

i think only cg can see edited/deleted comments... if anyone can see them at all.

Yes so I am kinda asking if MOD or someone that can see erased comments can inform me that the comment was related to the game I was scammed out of WWE2K16 ;P if yes then fair chance that's the scammer... catch my drift

did you send a support ticket? easier than getting a reply in the forums.

I was trying to find that option.... using phone ATM so chose this route to see what the poll would show, will find support ticket 2moro

tbh though even if the comment was undeleted and it was uncovered it was the scammer, what can you do about it? nothing at all really. sorry it happened though.. =(

Apply correct rep... possibly even ban account/s

Permalink

true on the -rep.. but honestly the odds are not that great on getting them banned from steam at all, maybe from steamtrades though (if you manage to catch CG, since there isn't currently any staff moderating that side of things).

Yea steam facilitates the scamming tbh... more money to them after all.

Ban would be a real stretch I know but damn it would feel good to see banned lol

if you feel that strongly that it probably was the scammer (if you rarely get comments, and the timing was way to close), then fill out a support ticket like Mully suggested. ;)

i think CG is the only one that can do that kind of checking though, so it may honestly take 3-6months to get the proper assistance and a reply unless you get lucky and he happens to pull your ticket sooner. but he would be the person to apply the ban too (for steamtrades.com) if somehow he was able to link it to your scammers account.

Yes rarely get comments and timing was spot on so I'm like 80% sure.... the other 20% is saying someone commented and bumped it to the scammers attention, but for the comment to be erased changes that upto 90% or I'm just crazy.

Either way thanks everyone for the input I wanna know the poll results, will send in ticket Later on

i understand, timing is everything ^^

sorry again that it happened at all, good luck with support (if you choose to utilize that is), and see attached image for current poll results. xD

You do realise I am asking to implement a feature to help prevent fraudulent behaviour.... everyone starts at the bottom So your assumption about checking is invalid!

Rep means nothing when it's a 800+ rep using their fake accounts... erasing comments with absolutely no history is just trouble as I and many others have found out!

Not just because of me.. many others also!

p.s not like any of you have never been scammed it happens... more we can do to prevent it the better

+1 i agree.. 301rep here (0neg) and the only time i was scammed it was a successful trade with +rep both ways, but then a month later it was revoked and the 20-30ppl they scammed with same game all changed their feedback including me ofc. (minor loss -- cple bundle keys only)

submitting a trouble ticket and have support look into a removed comment is one thing, but no need in adding a "reason for delete" when people can simply avoid it by editing the text to say "deleted comment" instead. or see some nonsense spam that would be even more annoying then just having a deleted comment.

i didn't make any screenshots or have any actual proof of any kind, it wasn't anything large or special though. just a cple bundle keys i had spare for "Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna)" a few months before it was bundled.. got it a few times since anyways. xD

I got the email from steam stating to claim the gift which I did.... that evidence still gets me no where :(

Funniest part is he coulda got me for so much more.... asked to get another copy for the GF + Fallout 4 Season Pass + more but yes for some reason he called it quits sooner than later which really does my head in lol

Hence this whole thread... asking the community NOT JUST me because I said so what their opinion is on the particular comment erasure, not like it's gonna be a comment saying a family member passed but In this situation it could expose a scammer why would anyone be against that idk

I comment and commit :P

idk what scammer would put:

reason for delete = "cause i scammed them" it really won't do any good at all but create an additional place to spam you.

or alternatively no longer allow delete & only allow edit = "deleted comment" with username -- also does no good, i'd rather it truly be deleted so i don't even see it in my message box.

or no editing of comments and no deleting = goodbye user-base.. i certainly would never use it then.. not allowed to change my mind or alter my offer when a user is non-responsive..

I think you can see the neg 1 on my profile.... even high rep will take advantage of lower/new people!

DO NOT ASSUME I DON'T CHECK OR TAKE PRECAUTIONS, you cover one way and they will hit from another... belittling me achieves nothing! A thread like this every day or 2... well simple little things can go a long way in prevention and comments are one! 🤔

Twice I've been scammed it HAPPENS, especially when your a nice guy :(

I gots a middle finger guess what you can do with it from your high chair.. move along if all your intention is to talk down to me like I'm a freaking FULL POTATO!

I laugh if someone reads this and sights you up for their next scam seeing as your talking like your so invincible 😜

just admit comment erasure how it's explained throughout this thread is just a tool to utilise for scams.. what's saying old mate has a 500+ rep account and scammer quickly comments from that mates account to make you believe all without mate knowing bla bla where there's a will there's a way

Anyways have a good one ✌🏻

Ok I'm simplify it... not so much erased for whatever reason, as said could be greyed out meaning that comment/offer is no longer valid! The who is the main part so damn a comment from you that's been erased ok wonder why...?

Catch my drift I truely believe the scammer posted via a decent account before I had the chance to see due to playing GTA V and late morning.

It was revoked... he went first, I've traded before with similar and no drama I did not see that coming at all.

P.S ticket was sent
