That too. Because BBC's Sherlock is a damn fine series.

but Dr.House is based on Sherlock, and he said he doesn't like Dr.House...
to each his own.
I'm a fan of Doctor who, but you probably won't like it either.
Edit: haven't read all the way... nm :D

what is wrong with you? Dr. House, Breaking Bad and Dexter? Jeez...
Anyway, you should watch Arrow, Mad Men, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Sherlock, Vikings

+1
Then, I love how Ben Browder and Claudia Black join Stargate SG1 in seasons 8 and 7.

That idea makes me smile.
But so far, I do not think I have seen a funnier episode of a Sci-Fi show other than episode 200 of SG1.

I'm not a big time fan of SG1 (or StarAnything) though it's still a decent show, but my dad is a full time sci-fi nerd so I've end up watching plenty of things here and there. I'd say my favourite episode is the Groundhog Day one, Google informs me that it's called Window of Opportunity.

When I saw the first episode, I was hooked. It's so good in my opinion, it makes you want to see more. But then again, to each his own.

I agree, she can be quite annoying from time to time, but that doesn't mean that the show is bad.

And the lack of a truly great book series that makes me hate the changes the show has made.

It really was a classic show, but in hindsight, I'm glad it was just the one season. It makes it a great little jewel of a series.
Another one that I rewatch every few years is Babylon 5. The first season is a little hard to get through, because they were still ironing out the kinks of the special effects (early days of CGI), but its got great writing and the universe really evolves as the series progresses.

WOW. You didn't like House M.D. which is the best TV show ever made, but you love Battlestar Galactica? Just...WOW... I could make you dozens of recommendations of great TV shows, but what would be the point? Given your...let's say, dubious tastes(surprised you even like GoT), you probably won't like them. Instead I'm going to make some suggestions of absolutely shitty TV shows that I'm sure you'll love: Teen Wolf, The Vampire Diaries, True Blood, Rizolli and Isles, those damn blasted CSI series that never seem to end and just get more boring by the season, Stargate Universe, Star Trek The Original series, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air(first two seasons are nice and funny, but after that...THE HORROR), Pretty Little Liars, 90210, The Lying Game, Lost, Glee, Beauty and the Beast, Once Upon a Time, Defiance.

I hate E.R. and Grey's Anatomy with red fervor too, but if you think House has ANYTHING in common with them, except using medicine to tell a story, then you clearly have an empty head and don't have the brain power to understand and process this show at a deeper level(clearly not a show for idiots) and it's pointless to even try to debate with you. House is a show about life, not about medicine, but you clearly never figured that out until now.

The only thing that I learned from House was that it takes many good 'normal' people around a sociopath to make said sociopath viable in life and to keep him from being a danger to the world.

There's a thing called opinions, you know. Just because someone thinks different than you about a subject which is indeed purely subjective, as this is, doesn't mean you can take that attitude. You must be terribly fun at parties.

That's just it, it's not about his opinion, it's about mine. He talked about what he liked, so the rest of us would have some guidelines as to what to recommend him. He asked, I answered. Seeing how his opinion is exactly opposite to mine, I sure as hell wasn't gonna recommend him TV shows that I like. What would be the point. I'm sure there are a lot of people who watch those pieces of shit I enumerated. I just wagered he could be one of them, seeing how he likes a piece of shit like Battlestar Galactica

Psh, that's supposing that us Steam Gifts freaks get invited to parties. The only parties we have involve chanting gooble gobble.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, so did I, too bad they didn't have a scene in which Remy tries to seduce Cameron. Instant Emmy moment :D.
But seriously, apart from hot chicks there's a lot to like bout that show. It's almost perfect: perfect casting, perfect acting, perfect writing, perfect set. Only thing I didn't like were a couple of isolated, weaker episodes and the Lisa Cuddy character in season 7. Otherwise, it's basically flawless.

No one should watch a show with a laugh track. Its like reading books with pictures in it.
Doctor Who is a great suggestion, though. I came late to the party (started watching from the beginning when the 4-5 season was airing). I felt like it would be too weird to start seriously watching the show at the 9th Doctor, but they made it very easy to slide in. And David Tennant was completely brilliant.

Or you could also focus on what the show is, and not the laugh track... it's actually not that hard, and makes it more enjoyable... laugh track is a detail, you won't want to miss a great show because of a detail would you ?

I find them insulting... It's like they're telling me "Listen here, idiot, you are supposed to laugh at this."
Comment has been collapsed.
You care too much on what you're told being supposed doing :p Or I don't care enough, still I laugh when I feel like laughing, not at the rhythm of some track...

Steins;Gate because Time Travel ;
Doctor Who because Time Travel ;
Sherlock because Sherlock

+1, I watched a whole bunch of series, but none of them came close to the quality of The Wire.

Babylon 5. The first season is pretty slow but it gets good after that.
I see you're already a Terra Nova fan so no need to suggest it.
Star Trek TNG
I suppose other suggestions would depend on whether you like 80s-90s TV with the cheesy special effects. Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica (the original), Buck Rogers, A-Team, Airwolf, Hogan's Heroes, stuff like that.

What about Joss Whedon's shows? Dollhouse. Buffy. Angel. Agents of Shield.
Or even for that matter Grimm.
How about SyFy's series Eureka? It is a decent sci-fi show with good humor.
If you can find it, you might also appreciate Gene Roddenberry's: Andromeda
And if you can tolerate the early/bad effects, the 90s series LEXX is pretty dang interesting too.
For a short run series you also might consider Dresden Files.
And I am surprised that no one has mentioned The X Files or the short spin off The Lone Gunmen. Or it's brother show Millennium.
And if you liked the scary stuff from The Walking Dead, I would also recommend American Horror Story. Each season is it's own short story. If you do not like one season, try a different one.

Eureka was a great show with lots of humor, although it got rather inconsistent towards the end. And there was a death in the later seasons that was a good story, but I thought the show lost some zing without them.
Grimm is largely really interesting (plus its spitting distance from where I live), but some of the episodes are really inconsistent. There's been a few times when I almost pulled the ripcord, because of a string of uninteresting episodes that didn't add anything to the story.

If he didn't like Firely, he'll most certainly not like Buffy or Angel. He might like Agents of Shield though, as it's clearly the worst of Joss Whedon's work(even if the second part of the season got a whole lot better).

Ah, yet Dollhouse is very solid mix of sci-fi and intense drama. Short series too so not much to feel like you wasted your time watching it.

absolutely true, the ones i've mostly been looking forward to are mad men and sherlock, now i'm hooked on manhattan and outlander the rest is mostly filler stuff to get me distracted
also adventure time is great =) gotta love jake and finn(which made me think of rick and morty, which by the way is fantastic and on my can't wait for the next season watchlist!)

Blackadder. It's considered the best work of Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean was awesome, but Blackadder is way better) and it's also where Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry got their big breaks. I suggest starting from season 2, as the first one was quite underwhelming in comparison.

Yes!
But if we are gonna mention this show, why not mention Red Dwarf?!
Comment has been collapsed.
He's handsome, trim, and no-one slimmer~
I loved Red Dwarf growing up. In hindsight, it's a BAD show in lots of ways - but that's a lot of what gives it it's charm.
Comment has been collapsed.
The first episode of the series is called 'The End' and the last episode (of the current season 10 - season 11 is in production) is called 'The Beginning' ... so, with the way you describe it, it is hard to guess which episode you are talking about. I would encourage you to watch whole entirety of Red Dwarf if you are at least familiar with it.

Mmm, with Blackadder I recommend skipping season 1. Some people swear by it, but in my mind the only good thing about it is Brian Blessed ;). Season 2 onwards is when Edmund's personally is at its very best.
