I got an extra copy of a game and decided to be nice a gift to someone else so some one else could enjoy it. I would gave to my friends but most people have Darksiders apparently. Here's the chat of some one trying to scam the game and trying to take the real winners gift.

Here's a screenshot

Took me about 7 seconds to find his ID on Steam

4, if the community page would have loaded faster

Well to be honest i don't care about whether you technically called him out or not. He tried to scam you so he should bleed :D. But since it could be considered to be against the rules i decided to mention it

Well that probably falls under calling people out, which is against the rules. Don't need a lynch mob going after anyone.

I could of used another program but was lazy :p.

Just pull up the Steam-overlay while in-game. Then push what ever key you have your screen shots mapped to. Then upload!

My friend knew someone like this, he had a thank you for the gifts segment on his profile that listed a ton of crap from steam users(with <3's and smiles of course next to them)...O_o. I wish I could find it and show you it...forgot the user ID :-/.

It's sort of the same as random group invites. I can't count how many I've got, all from random girl-loookalike profiles. Sex sells, or something.

No, it's just some poor girl that gets her mugshot scooped up from a social network or a lost phone and plastered all over the internet because she has above-average looks and the average denizen of the internet gets some sort of wish-fulfillment orgasm by using it as their avatar.

Happens all the time, really.

Her name is Bertha Nieves. Or, well, that's what Google says.

I don't understand the no calling out rule.... Community here is based on people being charitable and it seems rather offputting to me to promote scammers.

Right, and calling people out so they can have a bunch of people go after them and verbally attack them isn't off putting?

Even if they did things that people think make them deserving of it, it's not very nice at all. People being pricks doesn't solve anything. Plus there's the fact that people can get mistakenly called out on something (people saying they did something or broke a rule when they didn't, etc.) and then they have to deal with a bunch of people angry with them for no reason.

Either way, not calling people out isn't the same as promoting scammers. It's not like it's encouraging them or telling them to do it.

You are mixing apples with oranges. The fact of the matter is this guy isn't some random person who "messed up". It's a guy trying to explicitly; albeit not very good, scam someone. Steamgifts only works if the user base can trust it's user base. If more people like this person start popping up it destroys other users confidence in giving away games. I'm pretty new to the site, but not being able to name and shame shitty users is ridiculous. If you do something shitty you deserve it. I've yet to see anyone to post any messages on the forums complaining about a user who didn't abuse the idea of steamgifts. Should everyone message this dude? No not at all. It wont matter to this person anyways. The fact that you think his feelings will be hurt because he got caught trying to trick a user is ridiculous. Calling scammers out is helping the community because it teaches us what to look out for. Not calling them out gives them a free pass to keep doing the same shit over and over again. They ultimately suffer from no repercussions. How is that possibly a good thing? Especially with a someone like this who is blatantly trying to scam.

I'm not quite sure you got my point.

I completely understand what you're saying and I know that this guy in particular was, in fact, a scammer that knew exactly what he was doing. It's not okay.

However, it's happened before when someone has called someone else out and been wrong in their claims. If the rules change to allow calling users out, it will help alert people to scammers, yes, but at the same time it could be very hurtful and unfair to people who might get called out falsely.

I'm not worried about the scammers and their feelings or whatever. They suck. I think a bunch of people attacking them as a result of their scamming might be a bit much, but they shouldn't do things to bring it on themselves. I'm just saying that if you allow calling people out, although it'll allow people to be warned of scammers, it could also come at a price to innocent people who could very easily be falsely accused and then attacked as a result.

Falsely accused on a Steam gifts site isn't a big deal. Let people either defend themselves or ignore it. There's only one person with power anyway and that's the owner of the site.
