So you'd rather win even less giveaways? Fine by me. Sounds like you should create your own group, cause you sound like you feel excluded.(Taken from your test) And you aren't entitled to any giveaways at all, be thankful you even have a chance at 1 let alone a site filled with them that constantly replenishes itself. All you care about is yourself in this post.

I PARTICIPATE IN GROUPS BECAUSE I HAVE LOW SELF-ESTEEM AND WANT TO FEEL SPECIAL. WHY WOULD YOU TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME?!
sob
Edit: Seriously. While I completely disagree with your thesis, I like that you've maintained your polite and civil tone in the face of overwhelming disagreement. This I can respect. To each his own views, sir.

You're relatively new here and from what I could gather haven't made made many (if any) friends in the community (yet). What I suggest is that you actively participate in the community and after, let's say, six months, if all goes well, you will have become friends with a bunch of different members you enjoy talking to and playing games with. At this point chances are you will run across your friends in groups that you will end up joining, some of these will be private ones and they will either invite you into their fold or you will ask to join them of your own accord because, well, reasons. Participate in said group, and what do you know, you'll end up being on friendly terms with even more people you previously weren't acquainted with. Heck, if you really are a campaign manager sort of person, you might end up starting your own bloody group. Revisit this thread after that time and you will quite possibly find this whole discussion rather silly.
TL; DR: Be active, make friends (<- this bit is REALLY important!), have a "so that's what that feels like" moment, reconsider your original opinion.

I was gonna read through the thread until I realized that it was 4 weeks old, and it probably wouldn't be worth responding to some of op's much older posts. But regarding the original post...I don't even see a valid reason being pushed for the removal of giveaway groups. The complaint seems rooted in the sentiment that everyone should have the same opportunity to get something. Although that sentiment maybe be usable in a, let's say, a social equality context, but here on steamgifts...there's really nothing that anyone is arguably entitled to have. People are giving away things out of the kindness of their hearts...or out of convenience. If they want to create a more intimate environment as well as to increase the odds of a select few to get certain things, what of it?
Honestly, it just sounds like you are envious of groups that you have not obtained membership for. I don't say this to be presumptive. I say this because there doesn't seem to be a more substantive argument aside from a rather subjective claim like "The only giveaway group should be the whole SteamGifts community, so that we all have the chance to win everybody else's giveaways." And I mean, you're okay with contributor value? I mean, that's arguably unfair too, I mean, not everyone has the same financial situation; it's not giving everyone a fair shot.

I agree with CV because those giveaways are not hidden, they encourage people to giveaway non-bundle games and everyone has the possibility to enter them if they have contributed enough. Group giveaways are totally inaccesible if you are not a member of that group and the fact that they give CV is unfair as those people use it to enter public giveaways.
I'm not envious of those groups, I think I could get some invites easily with my profile. I only feel that they are detrimental to the community as we all are missing hundreds of giveaways that are "hidden" in groups.

Steamgifts is a giveaway group by itself. Making 30 user giveaway groups is silly, and they don't really even need Steamgifts to operate.
So why allow them?
I know some people have issues with CV when it becomes buying games/bundles on sale vs exploiting charity bundles.
Well, then make your own giveaway group, like everyone else and keep it off Steamgifts. :P
Edit: Wtf, how was this on the current threads if the last post was 2 weeks ago.

Title says it all but let me explain a little bit...
Even though I'm quite new at SteamGifts I think I have figured out how this works and I don't see the point of creating all those private groups for giveaways. They are presented as exclusive groups with a member number limitation where silly rules are applied, such as the need to make a giveaway every month. Anyone can create a group like that to fulfill the sense of belonging to an exclusive group.
Some might say that they do it to avoid leeches and encourage people to give away non-bundle games, but we have the contributor value for that. You may say or think that some people have exploited the CV system with some bundles. Shame on them! That's all I have to say. Anyway, they had to spend some money and that's better than nothing.
If you want to create a giveaway for people in your friend's list, then it's as easy as to create a status on your activity so that only your friends will have access to the private giveaway link.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that the possibility of creating private or group giveaways shouldn't exist, but I feel they have been overused and it's been detrimental to everyone.
I mean, I feel that we are all losing the opportunity to enter a great variety of awesome giveaways only because they are divided in hundreds of private groups, as if all the other people didn't deserve to enter those giveaways.
As for me, I'll keep making public giveaways with contributor value for everyone, at least for everyone who makes giveaways too. The only giveaway group should be the whole SteamGifts community, so that we all have the chance to win everybody else's giveaways.
I know this campaign is condemned to fail, but I just wanted to share some thoughts... what do you think?
