How is a game worth your time if it doesn't have an immersive, realistic environment? :/ It's imperative to storytelling and involvement.

Bastion, Psychonauts, Quantum Conundrum, Iji, and others. Not realistic. Also: Text adventure games and roguelikes. Graphics are nothing but flavor--ultra-realism sacrifices the imaginative.

Again, how is a game worth your time if it doesn't have an immersive, realistic environment? o_O

Games with realistic environments specifically -aren't- worth my time. I play games so I don't have to piss around with reality. Hell, my library contains such abstract nonsense as Really Big Sky, Inside a Star-Filled Sky, and Caster. These games stand on their play mechanics, and aren't terribly concerned with looking their absolute best.

[EDIT] Although you're obviously trolling, I'll willingly feed you this one time. [/EDIT]
Quoting [and rephrasing] the comment you wrote for mfromm above^:
"[...] an immersive, realistic environment [is] imperative to storytelling and involvement"
No. A good story is imperative to storytelling, a solid gameplay makes the game fun and a realistic and/or creative environment, sound design and overall sensory feedback create and immersive ambiance. Notice the order I placed each aspect. It's from most important to least important (with a possible swapping between gameplay and story). X-Com: UFO Defense is a lot of fun, and sometimes even thrilling, although it has shitty graphics for today's standards. Grim Fandango has one of the greatest stories I remember, with a very creative atmosphere, lovable characters, hilarous script and great storytelling, but the graphics are outdated by today's standards. The list could go on, but I think you got my point already.
A good and memorable game isn't based by its graphics alone because, in the end, it is and interactive story or experience; you need to either relate with it or feel engaged by its mechanics, and both of these things require interaction. That doesn't mean that great games can't branch off of so-so stories and great graphics, but if that's the case then good gameplay must be there.
Example?
I had loads of fun playing Unreal Tournament back in 1999. It had good graphics for the time, a cheesy plot-hole-filler story and an amazing adrenaline pumped gameplay experience... but now? I tried to play this game again after so many years and, well, it's aged quite a bit. The weapons aren't as engaging as they used to be, the maps look very washed up and the gameplay is the only thing that's holding it all together for dear life.
Moral of the story? A good story is imperative, good gameplay is essential and graphics+sound are good finishing touches.
[EDIT 2] D'OH! The trolling was obvious... the puzzle wasn't :S

I did read. There are many, many, (Millions) of players that do like CoD. Also, its a highly rated game. The term used doesn't really describe it. You're right, there are people that hate on it for being popular, but you didn't need to use "underrated" for a game franchise like CoD.
Comment has been collapsed.
I have a bunch of friends that I game with, probably around 20 or so, and at least 3 of them in the group won't play CoD because its "repetitive" and "overrated", when they just proved that it's not appreciated the way it should be.
Comment has been collapsed.
If you're not trolling or not a hidden puzzle then I am seriously disappointed. Most people don't hate CoD out of principle, they hate it cuz it's a crappy game. But seeing as how you don't even own MW3 on the PC, its one of or both of what I said in the beginning.
Comment has been collapsed.
You're right, I don't own it on pc, but I've played it on PC and I own it on 360. Honestly, I prefer a controller for certain FPS's. MW3 and BLOps are both on my steam wishlist though.
Comment has been collapsed.
Steam is the only method of acquiring the game, right? Also, no. People do hate on things that are popular. Personally, I don't care for the game or most FPS games. Coincidentally, I did like Mirrors Edge, which seems like the OP doesn't like.

CoD is the same exact game repackaged, recycled, and then sold for full price...It's used for milking money out of its customers and is in no way the best game ever...besides the online play being 99.9% recycled across every game since CoD 4, the single player although arguably decent is only about 5-6 hours of a campaign...When compared to other games released in the past decade CoD is far from the best game ever, and a 2/10 when it comes to getting your moneys worth

Really? Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but I respectfully disagree. Anyone who has a shred of taste for gaming can see what the series offers. Don't ignore a great game just because of your preconceptions!
Comment has been collapsed.
So what does each game respectively offer that's significantly different than the one that came before it?...Along w/ $15 DLC for 4 or 5 maps implemented? What a joke...they game is hardly skill based when it comes to shooting, all you do is run in circles and spray...A game with such below par game mechanics of this magnitude is far from being ignored because of my "preconceptions"

Worst= E.T don't know whether it was for pc but...its still the worst

Innovation is a big part of game design - mirrors edge did something unique, COD MW3 does something that has already been done multiple times.
Edit: Calling COD underrated is also ridiculous, since it is one of the best selling franchises of all time.

Yes couse there are many idiots with to much money out there :D

Something tells me you're completely missing the point here. It's not about trying to be different in an attempt to get everyone's attention, it's about being subtle in the approach so no one is really able to tell any difference at all. Using repetition is meant to drive home how simple-minded, and easily manipulated everyone else can be with just the right sleight of hand, or the right twist of words. It's not about just trying to annoy people, it's about trying to rile them up about something entirely pointless.
You'll never become anything more than an amateur troll at this rate.

Yes. Did you even read what I said? Open your mind and learn to think outside of the box. Don't just hate on CoD because other people hate it.

I really loved the Call of Duty games on the PS2 and Call of Duty 1 and 2 on the PC. Modern Warfare was great, and World at War - I thought - was pretty good too. Moving on to MW2, though, I enjoyed the campaign, but found the multiplayer depressing with too much emphasism on collecting emblems and tags (or whatever they are called, I can't remember) and not the multiplayer experience itself. And no dedicated servers are appalling on the PC! Needless to say, I haven't bought another CoD game since as I'm not paying so much money just for a short, single player campaign. I have TF2 and L4D2 for my online multiplayer experience, and even CoD4, sometimes.
Oh, and I also found Mirrors Edge a really good concept of a game. Granted, it was repetitive or annoying at times, but don't a lot of games have that? Games need challenges...

I'm dead serious! Why are you attached to those shitty 80's games? Games were never good until the mid 90s.

I was saying that "I hardly play them, what what was that thing you said" is a run-on sentence.

Also, it should be separated by a period instead of a comma. Also, it should be in an inquisitive format. Your grammar is all over the place.

Maybe you should actually try backing up your argument instead of making an Ad Hominem argument. Maybe it's more a Strawman? Whatever; until then you shall be treated as though you are just part of the ignorant mob.
Edit: That is assuming this isn't a ruse. I have never been much for puzzles so I don't really care to look. Wouldn't be surprised if it was either a troll or puzzle; wouldn't be the first.

Lol you're one of the most adamant people I've seen on here, which is great :P You have no idea how hard it is to argue for a ridiculous standpoint, and try to make it sound like it's debatable whether I'm trolling, serious, or puzzling. xD Thanks for adding to the 'experiment' though.

with having an immersive, story. Immersive gameplay. Graphics isn't the only thing that can make you immerse. A good game can tell a great story even with horrible graphics. Its like a book, it doesnt need fancy letters or a fancy cover, but you can still read a great story out of it. Ofcourse are Great Graphics helping you to immerse, but then again that can completely work against the immersion when the graphics are totally non benefitting the story.
Call of Duty is surely not the worst game(-series) ever, nor is it the best or the most innovative one. Its a nice sries, it can make for some fun and interesting moments, but the replay value is not that high (as with most linear shooters) and the Multiplayer is mostly really just the same. Maybe not because of the game, but because of the players.

"graphics is what makes a game great" when i see something like this i just know that it will end with CoD is great, graphics don't make game great, it's just a part of the game, if you have a game with greatest graphics ever and poor story, terrible sound, no atmosphere, and repeating gameplay you'll still have shit for a game, a great game is a game that has more then one of these qualities and it doesn't matter witch ones, great story can make for graphics and sound but graphics cant make for anything

Go back and play your shitty retro and kiddy games like Minecraft.

Minecraft is an imaginative game and its not for the kids...they just messing it up like the other games too :D
COD isnt a bad game but its far from good too. COD 1-2 great, COD4 was great couse of the new engine. Rest is crap...nothing new...but this isnt the designers fault. Its yours fault couse u buy it every time :D Many of you buy it again and again...they dont need to create a new innovative game. They successfuly brainwashed you.
But if u want to play COD its ur job. I dont care.
This my opinion about COD: --Sims syndrome--

Assuming that you're not trolling: Some games go for an immersive, realistic environment while other focus on other things in order to make an overall better game. If you came out of the mindset that graphics make a game good and played games for their mechanics you would realize that there is so much more to games than graphics and you would discover a lot of great games which you had over looked previously because of how they look.

Lol xD I'm sorry for making you guys hate me. I just wanted to test the effectiveness of this sort of simple puzzle. Everyone who commented helped out, so thank you. 2 people were able to see the hidden message within the hour.
For clarity, I don't own any CoD except MW2, and that's pretty much all I need. I love Mirror's edge too, one of my favorite games ever. In regards to the later comments, I'm also a huge fan of retro gaming, Nintendo, Minecraft, and everything else I bashed. xD
Some people might not agree with me, but I definitely think that Mirror's Edge is the most overrated, terrible PC game of all time. Each time I played it I got more and more annoyed with it. Then, everyone starts praising it for how 'amazing' it is. Truthfully, it's a terrible game and should go crawl back to where it came from and die. Like.. the game is incredibly boring and repetitive. Each level is the same.
Despite that, the game was fun for the first 10 minutes. Or, well, mildly fun. With their level design, it did kinda feel like you were high up in the air. Not that that saves the game, though, because that novelty quickly wears off and reveals the drab, terrible game underneath.
But perhaps worse than the repetitive, annoying, drab gameplay is the terrible story, tacked-on combat, and really uninteresting protagonist. Even though I don't usually care that much about story (graphics is what makes a game great), this game's plot was terrible. Really terrible. Then, each cutscene looks like it was made by a 10 year old in flash. Horribly made. At least the rudimentary cutscenes distracted me from the massively boring gameplay and frustrating combat.
In my opinion, the greatest and most underrated PC game series is the Call of Duty franchise. Maybe some of you disagree, but hear me out.
Just the other day I was talking with my friend about how not enough people appreciate CoD. Usually whenever anyone mentions CoD they say it's overrated, which baffles me. Seriously, what? The community just seems to be against CoD for no reason.
That brings me to my point. Really, when you think about it, the number of people who hate call of duty out of principle have created a situation where everyone ignores the innovations and deep immersive gameplay of the CoD series. Only people who can actually see the merit of a game on its own right can appreciate it. Let's think about this. Last year, we got the amazing MW3, which is probably the best game of all time. It's totally amazing, and brings a unique new entry to the franchise. Not even days after it was announced, people already started hating on it for being "more of the same", wtf? Gamers these days don't know what a good game is.
Let me know your opinions in a comment.
I didn't realize this would be so difficult for people to see xD. Congrats to Trinity and SFaPiL for being the only ones to figure it out. No giveaway here, just something quick and fun I wanted to try out. lol
Next week I'll be making a giveaway puzzle, though, so keep your eye out for it. Thanks :D
