Some people blacklist for either of the things above, so I'm curious which is the thing people prefer more. Also maybe this poll can help people in the future as well, so they aren't blacklisted/blacklisted less.

So my question is if someone enters your giveaway, which do you prefer them to do?
Leave NO COMMENT AT ALL if they have nothing to say. (You'd prefer they say nothing, if they have nothing of substance to say.)
or
Leave ANY COMMENT whether it be one letter/"thanks/"ty"/thank you" or even someone mashing a keyboard. (You'd prefer they say anything over nothing.)

Please post your thoughts below. :3 I'm quite curious to know what people think on this.

There is no option for "Not required to say anything when entering BUT at least say thanks if you won"

I wanted it to be as basic as it could be.

I think that'd probably be the no comment one anyways pretty much?

It isn't though? Cause I'd blacklist them for not saying thanks if they win but not for not saying thanks on entry. I basically only consider 1 person.

If you're gonna say something, let it be sincere. Obligatory ty is just... shallow

I prefer a genuine thanks from the winner...not just a "TY"...usually, if the winner never comments to thank for the win I BL.....other than that...I don't care.

I prefer people say any kind of comments in my giveaways because it makes me feel that my giveaways are being appreciated. In real life, when some one does something nice for you, you say thank you. Imagine if McDonald was holding an event where they give free iced teas and they have thousands of customer coming to the store to get it for free. How pathetic a person would look if they did not say thanks to the employee serving the coffee. So blacklisting people for saying thank you is very stupid unless they strictly write it in bold that do not say thank you or I will black list you.

I prefer people with nothing to say to say nothing. :) At least be greedy quietly... :) And not use a script to "say" something on every giveaway they enter, whatever it might be... :)

Also, if a person can't think of anything to say about a game you are giving away, why are they trying to win it? :)

WHY NOT BLACKLIST BOTH?

and you didn't say what you prefer =P
For myself
I rather people say nothing (until they actually win)
I have OCD that whenever I see the red notification, I will try to get rid of them....
all the thank you makes me mad
but I won't blacklist ppl for that tho

I myself would prefer any over none. Although I don't really do anything about it ever, so it doesn't really matter. lol

I do think people should comment on small group/(actual) private giveaways, since they have a better chance of winning and such. But that's just my opinion really. :p

I don't care either way. (and why is there no option for that?! Poll fail!)

I have more important things to worry about than whether or not I get a few notifications. :P

Wow. I am kind of shocked that the swing is so heavily in favor of nothing.

It's probably the leeches not wanting to get blacklisted.

I didn't think about that.
A shame there isn't like a level requirement for the poll.

Although the forum has less leachers, than the main site itself. (Still some leachers though obviously.)

Not really less. They are just smarter then average botter and work in teams so that individual profiles doesn't look that bad at first glance

I don't mind either way and always say so in my descriptions :)
I understand that people with dozens of active giveaways don't want to be completely flooded but at the same time I feel like we should, as a community, relax in that regard. It's not really fun for anyone to wonder if commenting or not will get you blacklisted.

Going to have to vote for leave any comment although I wouldn't actually take too kindly to random mashing of the keyboard. :p

I don't expect any individual to comment, would never demand it or blacklist over anything to do with commwnts but I do generally like it when someone does. If I made a giveaway with 100+ entries or something and noticed that it got zero comments I think I'd be disappointed. Hasn't happened yet and I doubt it will.

14 billion notifications can be annoying but it's not enough to make me prefer no comments. I do wonder if the results might be different if it wasn't for notifications, btw.

Something I don't like is when you have multiple giveaways open and it looks like someone is using a script to auto comment when they enter and you get the same comment on your notifications about 10 times all within 5-10 seconds of each other. I'd rather those guys not say anytrhing (i.e. turn the script off).

I haven't been active on SG for a long time. I've been trying to get up to speed on what has changed since. Back then, there were no notifications for replies to giveaways, no automatic user blacklists, and therefore none of this "blacklisting over (automated) thanks" business. I remember when users were encouraged to comment on giveaways they entered as a token of appreciation, as it was deemed common courtesy to so. "GAs entered to comment ratio" was a thing back then. This incentivized the whole comment bot practice, I realise that. But even for somebody who actually took the trouble of getting an auto-thanks script to run (however trivial that may have been), you could argue that they made more of an effort than somebody who didn't even bother to comment in the first place.

Call me old(-fashioned), but my stance on this has not changed. I used to put a notice like the one below on one of my private giveaways in the past, and although it may not be applicable, or admittedly, even desirable (if not in spirit, then in practice) for public GA's, it basically sums up how I feel about the matter:

"All comments welcome. Comments with more than a sole "thanks" (or variation thereof) even more welcome. Non-commenting entrants not welcome."

I just want to necro a bit to show why I really don't like this thanking spree. This is just in 3 days, and this is the Giveaways section of the messages screen, not the combined one:
