Some people blacklist for either of the things above, so I'm curious which is the thing people prefer more. Also maybe this poll can help people in the future as well, so they aren't blacklisted/blacklisted less.

So my question is if someone enters your giveaway, which do you prefer them to do?
Leave NO COMMENT AT ALL if they have nothing to say. (You'd prefer they say nothing, if they have nothing of substance to say.)
or
Leave ANY COMMENT whether it be one letter/"thanks/"ty"/thank you" or even someone mashing a keyboard. (You'd prefer they say anything over nothing.)

Please post your thoughts below. :3 I'm quite curious to know what people think on this.

Any comment is appreciated but not required. Only exception is exactly the same message posted in multiple giveaways in a span of few seconds or ignoring the the description as it clearly shows what one really thinks about GA creator.

As a side note, I've noticed more and more ppl not saying anything even if they had won. Coincidence? Or thanks is spam threads have something to do with it?

I give winners seven days to thank me... after that, they get blacklisted. Hey, it takes all of 5-10 seconds to click on the GA link (after redeeming the key) to say thanks. If they had time to enter and time to redeem the gift, then they've got time to say thank-you. Frankly it just makes me feel crappy when people don't and I'm less inclined to gift for a while after yet another, "Eff-you, I can't be bothered to thank you for your gift"... because, essentially, that is what not thanking someone really is, right?

While I appriciate the comments given on my GA, I dont really care. If you WIN the game and leave a comment on my steam or pm thats much nicer then replicating "thanks" while still they are nice for the time taken to write two or three words

I feel awfully stupid when I have nothing better to say than generic "thanks". It just seem so hollow. But if there's nothing in the description I have nothing more to say and it feels wrong either way O.o

So true. I actually skip some whitelist- or group-giveaways (for games I'm interested in) because I don't have anything to say beyond "thanks".

I principle I prefer any comments, including a generic thanks, but only if I have no doubt it's coming from a person and not from a script/bot. I can only tell that it is when it's someone I know, so in practice I prefer no comment over generic comments (and this is how I voted). I'm always happy to get non-generic comments, multi-line comments (which I believe no script supports) and funny gifs.

multi-line comments (which I believe no script supports)

oh, why that? I don't really see any technical reason for it to be impossible.

Thank goodness, it's been almost a week since the last time someone made a thread about this! :P
I generally sincerely appreciate comments... that are at least a full sentence long, and about the game or description or something.
If you don't have anything to say except "thanks", then please don't bother commenting. I won't hold it against you.

I don't think this type of thread has been made for awhile? (Actually a thread last night encouraged me to make it, but for different reasons)

And I don't think any of them ever had a pull or anything? Just usually discussion about 'thanks.'

I used to care about comments but now I really don't anymore. Might be because we have the notifications now. As long as the winner responds it's all fine by me. To blacklist for not commenting/commenting is silly to me but each to his own.

Comments are nice but not required as far as I'm concerned. But I do expect a little "thank you" from the winner, failure to do so usually earns you a spot on my blacklist.

I prefer simple Thanks comments over none, but I certainly don't expect any comments.

I can understand why some people don't comment on my giveaways and I have nothing against that, but I do prefer a comment, even if it's just a simple generic thank you message.

I don't mind the thanks. However, if I leave a note in the description to say something other than thanks, it does annoy me a little, but not enough to blacklist.
As for myself, I tend to say nothing unless I have something to say more than "thanks." Such as "I want this so much!" or "I've never heard of this game but it looks intriguing. I'll give it a go." And I do look to see if there are any instructions in the description such as "leave cat gifs" or "what would you do in a zombie attack?"

Unless I asked something specific, I don't mind anything. I'd rather people write what they feel like, of course like many have written before me, if I have several GAs ongoing and I see the same thank you comment from the same person in like ten different GAs, well... But I don't thinks it's fair to blacklist for that. What does bother me though is when the winner doesn't say anything after getting the game, it makes me a little sad:(

at first it seems of course polite to write "thank you", but then again, if you consider that many giveaways get around 1000 entries and everyone would write thank you, that would spam the giveaway creator and comments with more than that will likely be overlooked.
It sure is nice to thank someone for a giveaway, but 1000 times thanks loses its meaning and would be more annoying than nice..

It doesn't really bother me either way if someone comments or not EXCEPT when not a single person comments it hurts a bit :P

What gifters don't understand is that the reason people used auto thanks is because most of them used it as a requirement or it'd be a reroll. The give/win ratio didn't matter until SGv2. The comment/entered giveaways ratio did matter back then.

Now that SGv2 changed the game, the auto thanks users has diminished to almost non-existent. Many of those users that say thanks actual mean it but hey, blacklist away without having actual evidence of auto thank usage.

Thanks chains doesn't leave all notifications to the same user, and still are thanks, we should restart doing them?

Really people prefer empty giveaways? Sad SG

The discussion has no sense Seems easy to fix, everyone knows that Post on a giveaway should not generate a notification, they're not a reply. Only those where you click "reply" should generate a notification. Owner of giveaway has easy to enter his own giveaway and see if there are "interesting messages". OK on discussions I'm now not clicking reply, but should be a way to distinguish giveaways from topics, well on forum there's a list of self started topics so wouldn't be so dramatic, OK maybe yes.

just comment something, but at least try not to look like a bot or script repeating the same message all the time... that's annoying.

Neither one. I don't care if someone says anything on my giveaway. If they do I hope it was genuine, but I wouldn't punish anyone for simple TY

The only time i expect someone to say thanks is after they won the giveaway, either personly or as comment. Other than that it's up to then if they want to or not.

No comments. If they have some conversation-starter about the game, I love that. Seeing 10-20 "thanks" messages every time I log in on a morning is just tiresome after a while.

And if someone's argument is that it is a common courtesy, let me ask you something: do you also go to the offices of the state gambling committee to say thanks whenever you fill out a lottery ticket? Do you go to the stage to say thank for entering a raffle at a convention or similar gathering? Would you like to participate in a real life raffle where EVERYONE says thanks before the draw?
Because this is exactly what is happening here. Leave the thankful messages to the winners only and if there is nothing meaningful to say, don't say it. There is enough pointless meaningless unvaluable digital spam stored on the internet without it.

The most appreciated comment in my eyes is a thank you by the winner of one of my giveaways in the same way I will thank the gifter when I win a giveaway!

I chose neither answer as I have varying requirements based on my mood at the time. I prefer that the people who enter actually take the time to READ DESCRIPTIONS and follow the requirements imposed by the person doing the giveaway. I personally don't usually care what they say in my giveaways unless I've asked them to not say anything at all. I have no problems ignoring the replies indicator as some here apparently do either.

I was added as a friend on Steam and cussed out by someone that I won a game from on here when I said thanks AFTER I won the game (there was nothing said in their giveaway description to warn anyone) so now I don't give a damn what others think and I just enter and make giveaways any way that I want with no cares about what blacklists I end up on. I do however try to honor any requests made by giveaway creators (I read descriptions) and if their requests seem out of line or tells me that the person is an asshole I won't enter their giveaways at all and just move on.

IMO the blacklist feature is one of the worst things to be added to this site as it has caused more drama and bickering among the users here than good. Most everyone who was here before the site upgrade that I have talked to says the same thing. This site has become more about imposing rules and restrictions and less about the spirit of giving and receiving. Maybe it's why I have seen so many of our high dollar contributors testing out the water on Steam Companion lately.
