Adopt an animal from a shelter, they are way cheaper, might already be trained, and you don't support a horrible industry

Adopt a pet. Preferably a dog. Raise them well, and they'll be your friends forever. They can be really really smart too.
There aren't bad pets, just bad owners. ;)

I've adopted both, in fact. Dogs are way better companions. They're really smart creatures, spend enough time with them and they start to understand you. They'll never let you down, and they'll always love you back. Just whatever you do don't get a poodle. Bad juju.
I can't say I dislike cats, however. So far I've only adopted one. She's really cute, but really annoying. Thankfully the cute parts outweigh the annoying, scratching parts, haha.

Dogs are loveable idiots. Treat a dog badly and they'll love you back. Treat a cat badly and they'll make your life a living hell, or just leave and find someone better. Treat them well and they'll show you just as much affection as a dog, but it will be because you deserve it.

I can't argue that dogs are loveable idiots, in fact, I'd say they're great loveable idiots. How you treat any pet will change a lot how they react to their environment. A dog that was treated badly will be completely different from a dog treated well, even if the dog doesn't hate his owner.
That said, no pet will ever love you the same as a dog. Not even a cat that you've treated really well. Dogs are just on another level of love, and that's why they're man's best friend.

To try to add some variation to the suggestions: How about a sugar glider?
They're cute, loving pets, and they're relatively inexpensive to house and feed, and simple to care for. They live for 15-ish years, but it really isn't that big of a commitment -- not for a small animal that's easy to take care of. It's not like walking a dog or grooming a long-haired cat every day for the next 15 years.
Basic care guide, if interested.
Though I do second the people that said rabbits and ferrets, too. They're easy to care for and they'll form a bond with you. c:
I dunno. Rats, gerbils, and hamsters are cute little buggers and good suggestions too, but I, personally, just never liked handling them.

I was about to suggest sugar glider as well. I think they might be out of OP's budget as he said he's only got 100$ and I think they are a bit more then that.
They're really adorable but also quite hyperactive which is something not everyone will like. But if you want a cute little animal that's hyper like it's on drugs sugar glider is an awesome choice.

My boyfriend mentioned them being nocturnal as a downside, too, but I mean, cats are primarily nocturnal and they sleep 18 hours a day. They don't sound like a lot of fun on paper, either, lol.
His mom had three gliders and I thought they were super sweet, none of them were terribly hyper, lol.
And I had figured they were pretty inexpensive to adopt/buy initially since they're not very well off. But I'm sure it depends on where you go, like anything else.

I can't stand cats, but I believe they're the easiest to manage.
You're right to rule out a dog. It does require a huge commitment on time, and it really screws with your schedule. My hamster was my gateway pet, but man do their cages stink after they've peed a few times, so you'll have to clean it regularly, but it's much easier on your schedule than a dog. I'll also caution you that hamsters make a TON of noise at night if they have a wheel. Also, mine never really seemed to have any interest in me ... just eating.
I saw ferret recommended a couple of times, and the suggestion to put a bell collar on it and let it roam sounds cool. But I recall people saying they reek like nothing else.
Rabbits seem like a cool idea that's also been stated.

Shame you don't want a dog, but if you do change your mind get a german shepherd. One of the smartest dogs there is. Also you could try getting a parrot.

I came in to post this, but OP is not going for a cat or dog so adoption is probably out of the question. Shame though, so many animals are getting euthanized at shelters while pet shops are charging exorbitant prices for kittens and puppies...

A tarantula. Just feed it crickets. It won't give you parasitic worms, nor any other disease. It won't shit nor piss on your carpets nor shed fur all over your stuff. You don't have to worry about flea infestations nor trips to the vet. And... no disgusting odor.

+1 I've had several over the course of my life, and I liked them quite a bit. You won't form the kind of bond with tarantulas that you can with mammalian pets - but don't think that means that you won't end up having any emotional attachments to them - but they are inexpensive to maintain, and you can handle them. You can even pet them (gently, obviously)!

+1 I've had a Chilean Rose for almost 4 years and it's great. If you are interested in tarantula care, here is a quick guide for begginers.
As a bonus, a tarantula is a great house guardian, you just tell your guests there is one around and they try to flee :)

If you really want an animal, research about it, talk to people who have animals, then adopt one.

Guinea pig. I loved mine when i had them. Can interact with them a lot more than a hamster. I use to take mine out of the cage and let them run around the room and they'd start whistling and going around in circles with joy. You can befriend them easily, just lay them on you and pet them for 5-10 mins, they'll stay still and they'll start trusting you. It is important to put Vitamin C in their water, so they do require a bit of extra care.

Gonna buy two of them pretty soon! This is the OP by the way

Hey guys, so I am going to be purchasing a pet soon. I am 15 years old and my parents are letting me purchase an animal. I am using my own money (about 100 dollars) and am buying everything for it. I don't want anything like a dog or a cat, those are too much of a commitment and too costly. I want something that is easy to take care of, but it doesn't have to be ridicoulously easy to take care of. I want an animal that you could handle and befriend easily, not something like a fish. If you have any suggestions, that would be great.
P.S. If you could also give some info on how to take care of them, that would be great too. Personal stories are great.
Edit: Perhaps I should make something clear because some of these comments are rather hostile towards me. I am VERY friendly towards animals and I would never not take care of one. I had a pair of pet rats who lived beyond their average age and died. I want something that isn't too much work, but that doesn't mean I oppose work. I think I will get a pair of guinea pigs. I have a huge cage lined up for them with many toys and I have already read a ton on them.
