If youre bothered by the potential commitment you arent ready for the responsibility. Dont bother, the animals will thank you for it.

Rats could be good choice. If you take female pair, they wont be bored when alone. Just don't buy em from pet store. Fancier is better, because you know animals are treated well there.
They get really attached, and if you want can be taught tricks. They don't live too long which might be a plus, since in few years you might not live with your parents anymore.

you can buy "Boad" :P buut personally I would always suggest a Yorkshire Terrier however you dont want dog.. but yorkshires are awesome :> its best to get befriended with dog.. then a cat... or hamster I think the Yorkshires are super friendly if raised right :PP

A small mammal like a bunny, guinnea pig, hamster, rat, mouse etc.
I have 2 bunnies. 1 male and 1 female. They like having a companion so it's best if you buy 2 of different sexes.
Be aware that not all bunnies like getting picked up. In they wild they are a pray so they might instinctivly try to get away when they get pickup up.
The only responsibilities you have are pretty much making sure they always have water and hay and once a day some bunny food. And you need to clean the cage every 1-2 weeks.
Also their nails need to get clipped once in a while, you can do that yourself or let the vet do it. You also need to check their teeth because they keep growing. Giving them shots against sickness is optional. If you keep them outside and there are many wild bunnies around it would be smart to do so. If not the chances of getting sick are a lot smaller but they are still there. So it's really up to you if you want to risk it or not.
Ofcourse they need attention too. If you have 1 bunny it needs more attention and toys as when you have a couple.
If you buy them young they are very easy to pair. If you choose to adopt it would be smart to ask the shelter if they can pair them for you (they often do that free of charge). It would kinda suck if you have 2 bunnies that dont like eachother. After a few months the male needs to gets castrated if you dont want many many baby bunnies. If you let them run outside the cage also make sure there arent any electrical wires around they can get their teeth in :P
They are a great pet to have, they look cute, are funny to watch and they are really soft. You can even potty train them. They are truely awesome.
They yeh they are cool, and not really hard to take care of, but the few thing you need to do, you do need to actually do them. If they dont have water for 6 hours for example it could already be fatal.
Please when you decide on what kind of pet you want make sure you read up on it good before you buy it. You will be responsible for it for years, after a few months you cant go like "meh I dont like it anymore" and then put it up for adoption. So make sure you know what you are doing.
That being said. Have fun with your new pet(s). Pets are awesome :)

Hey guys, so I am going to be purchasing a pet soon. I am 15 years old and my parents are letting me purchase an animal. I am using my own money (about 100 dollars) and am buying everything for it. I don't want anything like a dog or a cat, those are too much of a commitment and too costly. I want something that is easy to take care of, but it doesn't have to be ridicoulously easy to take care of. I want an animal that you could handle and befriend easily, not something like a fish. If you have any suggestions, that would be great.
P.S. If you could also give some info on how to take care of them, that would be great too. Personal stories are great.
Edit: Perhaps I should make something clear because some of these comments are rather hostile towards me. I am VERY friendly towards animals and I would never not take care of one. I had a pair of pet rats who lived beyond their average age and died. I want something that isn't too much work, but that doesn't mean I oppose work. I think I will get a pair of guinea pigs. I have a huge cage lined up for them with many toys and I have already read a ton on them.
