Im not seeing how this person is a jerk. You asked him a question and he answered it. I really really dislike people like you.
Such a good friend, yet you find him to always be "intolerable and annoying". Right. Well maybe you should apologize to him because it appears you are anti"everything that isnt inline with their thoughts".
Yes im mad.
Yes I deal with people like you all the time.
I do agree with him in that there is almost never anything worth watching on TV.
IN FACT, id love to know your friends name, or tell him to add me. Im sure we would get along smashingly!

[Ah... while I was typing my post you edited yours]
I think the most fitting term to describe your friend would be "a pessimist", not "a jerk".
A jerk is a person who doesn't waste a chance to prove that he's cooler than you or, the other way around, how stupid/inferior you are. As an obvious consequence, a jerk is presumptuous, selfish and has no tact whatsoever.
A minority of those jerks believe that they're being funny but, in truth, they're not because no one likes to be negatively criticized (if they didn't ask for it).
Anyway, to answer your question, yes I have met the "jerks" you speak of and I talk to them normally. I try to slip in some optimism from time to time so that they can either (a) sway the argument or (b) figure it out on their own and stop being negative.
If they just don't get it, and they're not a close friend of mine, I eventually make up an excuse and leave.

Thanks, realized too late that my post still used the word "jerk" which was really not my intent.
Its just quite troublesome for me, as this person is a good friend, and I've tried slipping in some optimism, or suggesting less (in my opinion) inappropriately frank manner. Didn't quite get a good reaction, so I just take her as she is now.
Still, some days are just way off..
I appreciate the civilized reply!

There is no such thing as inappropriately frank. You are the one in the wrong here. Time to change out of your pullups and put on your big boy pants.

Thing is, the person always points out the flaws in everything I bring up, Music, shows, games, videos, whatever.
The person is literally a contrarian: goes against everything. Everything.
Of course when I point out a time the person goes against what they have previously stated, they shrug it off.
I don't mind independent thought, but isnt going against everything just because not independent either?

I wish I could say the same of you.
Alas, you're still an asshole.

There is nothing wrong in being critical towards society, as long as he doesn't really hate a human being, he actually goes a rather above than average way of intelligence. Because cultural pessimism might be something most people don't like to see, but to be quite frank about that and if you have some oil in your head tank, then you will realize that times today got fucked up, kids are fucked up because they get fucked up entertainment.
But if you swim with the swarm, it will not bother you, so enjoy the ride.

I've got a good friend who always tethers between tolerable and annoying, and is almost always anti-everything-that-isn't-inline-with-their-thoughts.
Just an example. Funny thing is, I wasn't talking about TV per se, but about Big Picture.

Hey everyone, so I was kinda wondering how y'all deal with anti-everything kinda people.
I've got a good friend who always tethers between tolerable and annoying, and is almost always anti-everything-that-isn't-inline-with-their-thoughts.

4:29 PM - johnxfire: Anyways, how are ya?
4:30 PM - : I dont use a tv here
4:31 PM - : my mom watches tv
4:31 PM - : but i avoid it totally
4:31 PM - : theres like nothing good on tv anyway
4:31 PM - : aside from that im fine
4:31 PM - : hbu
4:32 PM - johnxfire: Errrrrrr.... I dunno. Fine I guess.
So, have you ever met such people before? How did you deal with them?
Hey, thanks everyone, try having these kinds of conversations everyday, everytime you say anything about anything.
But hey, I know, I'm a jerk. So sorry for wasting your time.
OH AND HEY. Read between the lines, or look through the pages, or under the sheets, or something.
